woohoo! my name up in lights - again! haha thanks, ed! this was most informative! hm, my idea today for a video might be jungle-clearing vehicles of WW2, but there might not be enough photos available for presentation. how about ecclesiastical-named vehicles? some might require their own video, but how about the deacon? was that the first? thanks again!

I always wonder if they had been available for the Arnhem drop, would they have made a difference, especially when they were trying break through to Bridge as resistance stiffened. Cleary all the other factors that impacted on operation would have still be there, but a few Alectos fire HE in the direct fire roll might even the odds a little.
@CS-zn6pp2 жыл бұрын
Arnhem was a mess from the start. They may have helped in if employed as you mentioned but I'm sure a few of the 6lb versions would have been appreciate to keep the German armour back. The tow 6lbs were good but not easy to move to a new firing position.

Great video. Two points. The British army was ridiculous slow at development of new vehicles. The need for a self propelled anti tank gun was identified within days of fighting beginning in 1940. How much of a game changer would large numbers of the 6lb armed Alecto's deployed to North Africa have been? Mobile, hard hitting and extremely easy to conceal. Secondly, pronunciation. Like everyone else on KZfaq, you say "Els'wick" when it's pronounced "Els'ick" with the silent 'w'.
