For the English translation vax should be wax. Also the w sound in English is not the same as the v sound. So many non native speakers, Germans, Scandinavians, and I guess Latvians also, tend to pronounce their w sound like the v sound in English. In reality the w sound is probably closer to the Latvian o as in ozolina. (sorry about the n in ozolina my keyboard doesn't do Latvian.) I don't know if maybe it would help to think of the w in English as an o in Latvian. I can't be sure as I haven't heard the result. I can only say that to me the o in Latvian sounds more like an English w than an English w sounds like an English v. English spellings are not very strictly phonetic, though, like some more modern languages. : )
