I love this setting, too! Much too few people know, how it sounds for the musicians on the stage. @Elliot, a few questions Is the click track completely pre programmed for each show and just started/paused by the drummer? Or started newly for each song? I.e., can you skip a song if necessary? What software do you use? How do you generate and change your sounds? Are they built into the keyboard or do you have Ableton live or anything else running with midi? Are you using a Footswitch? Thanks 😍🤘

@@jankappen7970 The click track is just a stereo audio file for each individual song, running in an app on an iPad that our drum tech operates. The left channel is click, right channel is mono backing tracks which get sent to FOH. All the sounds are in the keyboard. I have a different patch for each section of each song, and they're all arranged in order for the whole show. I wrote my own software to edit the files for the keyboard and rearrange the patches. Then yeah, I hit a footswitch and it just advances to the next patch.

It's an Akai MPX8, it has 8 pads and you can put in an SD card and play 8 different sound effects. I use maybe 6 of them, but only 3 main ones (sub drop, explosion, woof)

I have every sound for every song in the show, set up in sequential order in the keyboard. Then I step on a footswitch to change to the next one and the whole show just goes like that hands-free

Well, partly. When we did the Tilburg DVD, we went through all the stems to check for stupid mistakes, problems in the recordings, etc etc to see if there's anything we needed to replace/fix/add to make it sound better (that's common practise for live releases, whether people admit it or not). In the end, the only major thing we didn't like is that our backing vocals sounded pretty naff compared to the records - it's just us 3 extra guys singing along with Chris, two of which are running around and out of breath all the time. So, we recorded a couple of layers of extra gang vocals for the full DVD to make it sound more beefy. Then we decided we should probably have that in the live show all the time, because it sounded SO much better, and that's when we started using backing tracks. There's really not a lot else going on in our tracks (except the synthy stuff in songs like Tortuga and P.A.R.T.Y) but we added lots of gang vocals to almost every song, and so obviously that means we play those songs to a click now. It does have the added benefit of keeping our timing more solid though, as you said yeah.

Yeah, it's a mistake, their records are poorly prepared and Lasse leaves such things in the final mixes...

Please... It's a metronome, which helps keeping the right timing.

The audio in this video is a direct recording of what I hear on my in-ear monitors. We have a click running through most songs, so Peter can play in time with the backing tracks (mostly just extra chorus backing vocals, and a small amount of synths), and also to give cues for songs with silent count-ins and to announce the next song. The audience can't hear the click and it's not in the stage monitors, it's just for the band and crew.

We don't play Anchor to a click so that's why there's no click in that song. As for the keyboard, what you're hearing as actually my in-ear wireless dropping out. You can still hear the mic from the GoPro but not the direct IEM mix. As you saw, it put me off suddenly hearing silence and I went wrong trying to get back into it!
