I like how the earlier pranks were meant not to harm her that much before transitioning to more dangerous ones. It shows how his confidence with Alex being able to deal with them grew.

After seeing all of the past videos now, I understand that Steve was driven mostly insane due to his loneliness. He would always entertain himself with his traps and pranks, since it was his only way of defending himself and favorite way of simply living. He tried to fill that void with his snow golem friend (Rest in piece), but couldn't derive any satisfaction from pranking them. So, he simply accepted their company until the end. Humans need companionship. It's in our nature. However, now that Steve's mind has been.. kinda borked to say the least; He's found that he can get massive amounts of entertainment from Alex. He doesn't treat her poorly aside from his traps (which were never made to kill if you look closely), and he does share at least some kind of friendship with her, some level of trust. If he didn't, then at the end of this video she would've just stabbed him without hesitation.

So Steve was basically trying her so she wouldn’t ended up liked his last friend.

See rewatching these knowing what Steve went through and how unhinged he may be really shows - This is how he communicates - he always found laughter in these pranks always wanted to enjoy them with someone and with Alex it's no different the only difference is that he now lives a life of playing/ training her to stay alive cause he lost one friend already and he may not know how to convey it correctly but he cares about Alex and doesn't want her to disappear

Alright, so: The fact that there's a cross with vines wrapped around it suggests that Steve once had a good friend, one that died a long time ago. When he finds Alex in her dilapidated state in the ravine, Steve is perhaps motivated to take the new player under his wing. Judging by the bandages, sewn up clothing, and consumed golden apple/health potion, Steve had been nursing Alex back to health for a while. However, immediately after Alex awakened Steve catapulted her into the sky, terrifying and perhaps traumatizing the girl he had gone to considerable lengths to save. The cruel and unwarranted pranks only increase in intensity from there on. This begs the question: why? Why is Steve so dead set on tormenting Alex to the point that she hates him? Well, my theory is that Steve's mystery friend died in a manner that was because of or relating to his actions. The guilt of losing his best (and probably only) friend would probably cause the psychopathic tendencies Steve commonly exhibits. Enter Alex, a potential friend/partner that could interrupt Steve's loneliness and self-apathy. Steve doesn't want a repeat of what happened to his friend, so he does two things: train Alex to be practically unkillable and keep her at arm's length. The cruel pranks are Steve's method of ensuing that Alex would see him as a rival or adversary, and thus would be continuously focused on surpassing him. With this method, Steve would both condition Alex to always be on high alert and ready to roll with the punches, but also viewing him as an obstacle to be overcome. This obsession with training up Alex takes up pretty much all of Steve's energy, as we see him constructing elaborate railroads, pitfall traps, and tnt cannons to torment Alex with. He devotes his life towards keeping the woman alive but refuses to connect with her on an emotional level, which leads to a violent and toxic relationship between the two. Steve is also unable to deal with his feelings towards Alex, which leads to him avoiding any attempts at intimacy with more bizzare pranks. All in all, Steve won't be able to form a bond with Alex unless he conquers his past trauma and fear of loss, and Alex won't be able to connect with Steve until she breaks through his outer shell and learns to trust him. Whew, didn't think I'd write a whole video essay on this. Anyways, that's my theory.

That's a lot of character development for one episode. The pranks straight up turned her into a professional. Also smooth animation. Keep up the good work.

I'm pretty sure Steve is doing all these so that Alex doesn't end up like his first friend there, judging from the vines wrapped around the marker, it could have been a long time since they passed. It could have been the person that taught Steve everything he knew, or someone he failed to protect in the past. Any which way, can't wait for the next part 😁

How it feels playing minecraft with friends

steve is absolutely the embodiment of 'WELCOME TO MINECRAFT, NERD!' but from seeing other animations from the past, it feels like every day ( as far as we can tell,) steve tests alex in some way to keep her wits sharp despite knowing fully that he'll frequently get his face smashed into the floor by an angry alex

By shifting her focus on himself rather then the environment, Steve taught Alex how to survive. by making her determined to 1-up him.

Steve is the prankster because he cant express himself very well but this makes alex more stronger and stronger which is why she is more capable than steve in this series.

Theory: Steve spawned into this world and basically did the whole survival thing for a while. Despite having no talent for fighting he had a great talent for redstone and building contraptions. At one point, he met a friend who enjoyed destroying stuff and messing with people, and together they formed a group of griefers. They'd go around causing destruction and making pranks, which lead steve becoming good at making traps. It was really fun at first and they never did anything too dangerous or harmful; however, they started taking more risks and did more dangerous things, until eventually they bit off more than they could chew and Steve's friend bit the dust. Steve was striken with guilt and grief and stopped doing tricks for a while. So, after being alone all those years, with Alex showing up, Steve opened his bag of tricks again to both have a little fun, and make sure that alex was tough enough to not end up like his friend

Considering Alex nearly died from one slip and Steve lost his only friend due to something as simple as rain, I can agree to those who say while not exactly nice he was training Alex to survive (in hindsight the iron and diamonds as well as the trunk with arrow dispensers can be seen as a “trust nothing” lesson)

I'd like to think the pranks started off as trying to train her to overcome the challenges of survival so she could eventually live without his help. He started with fall damage (with golden apple overheal and a bed to break the fall) and moved onto arrows and explosives. You see her equipment become better and her reflexes sharper. He becomes attached to her but the only interaction he's used to with her is pranks so he can't express how he feels normally. Or he's just immature... Eh, I prefer my head-canon.

After watching Steve's Past, it just hits different.

I was surprised he started pranking her from the day they met, but loved that they ended up being the training that helped her transition from a timid noob to the badass we've seen in these vids.

Ya ya, mucho riesgo y diversión y todo pero para cuando un momento steve x Alex serio? (No digo que este mal ya que me echo unas risas viéndolos pero quisiera y desearía ver como interactuan de forma bonita ellos dos si saben a lo que me refiero, guiño guiño xd)

so... from what I gathered from the "pasts" episodes, congealed into a timeline: Steve spawned in first, new to the minecraft world and just doing anything like normal to survive, then night falls and the zombies move. Before they reach him, he gets the idea to move underground. Prepwork and mining later, alongside frustration at doing tasks manually, he is then able to engineer traps and finds the fact, when mobs fall for the traps, Funny... but no one laughs with him. weeks pass, more pranks and traps go off and he laughs... but no one is around. hHe builds a snow-friend to enjoy what he does and races around. yet onde day, amongst the rain, it melts... and Steve's reminded that he's all alone. In parallel to the slow descent to insanity, Alex spawns in the new world, encountering the same problems Steve did... yet is completely unprepared when the zombies attack. undergeared, she tries to fight them off, only to get tackled off the cliff and to literally break her leg. stuck in the cave, she can barely move, days passing and hunger affecting her. Through eating rotten flesh to stave off hunger, only to get poisoned and sick from it, and getting harrassed by Phantoms for going several days without sleeping, she gets steadily weaker and weaker, her growing upset in the rain of her weakness and mortality. when the spiders show up, and her unable to do anything, she thinks she's dead... (switch pov) While Steve hears spiders and someone hurt, he uses TNT to blow the wall, alongside the spiders to kingdom come, and finds another like him, hurt and passed out. he then nurses her back to health. (in conclusion for both pov's) While she is startled awake and grateful of the rescue, sh doesn't really like the pranks he pulls on her; and as she slowly learns the lessons she needs to survive and suffers through his pranks (which gives her shock and fright, but not lethal, though slowly ramping up to lethal traps), until one day, she chases him in anger as he chuckles away, riding the Rail kart and throwing lethal traps at her, all the which she blocks, redirects, slices, and dodges all of them. As she catches up to him, her anger seems to dissapate as she sees Steve staring off into the sunset as she sits next to him, rather ending with him pulling the first prank he did on her when she first woke rescued. I personally don't understand fully why Steve acts this way with Alex, but the Bonds they have with each other must have been built and worth signifigance, otherwise she would have left him by now after recovery. I guess whatever his reasons Steve has with his chronic need to prank Alex, he would want to try and bond with her as the only other possible companion he has.

*STEVE is actually teaching ALEX not to trust players, and this my friend is a fact* *they'll betray you eventually, or prank you, this is something STEVE is amused of doing, pranking and training ALEX to be more efficient in PVP and also in mobility* *some players are so GOOD at PVP but not as good as ALEX, she went through an entire anime training arc* *AND IS USING EVERY PLAYER TRAP AVAILABLE ON MINECRAFT TO MAKE SURE ALEX DOES NOT FALL FOR THEM* *Alex may not understand this but Steve is actually a good person, just that his teachings are a bit...chaotic*

So, at first I was like, "I thought that this was gonna be a super sweet video about Steve helping Alex recover from almost basically dying in a world where she has no idea where she is." But then all the pranks were happening and I was like, "Uh, this is not sweet. And Steve is kind of a jerk." But, after seeing everyone else look at it from the point of view where Steve is just training her, I can begin to understand why this episode turned out like that. So, with all that being said, my fan theory is that Steve's old friend is Herobrine. Maybe he had a different name before he died, but my guess is that Steve and Herobrine were friends and then Herobrine died and Steve couldn't save him. And SOMEHOW that's gonna come back later, and Herobrine is gonna show up later in this series. Either as his classic antagonist role, or as more of a mystery figure, who can say?

스티브 집 앞에 누군가의 무덤이 있었는데 스티브는 슬픈 과거가 있었고 슬퍼하는 것을 내색하지 않으려고 장난치면서 말썽꾸러기 삶을 사는 것 같네요.

Steve is basically that nerdy friend who likes to troll but he also helped her learn to dodge and basically Forced her to learn to defend herself using swords or other tools.

Training her first with easy traps and then more and more difficult ones until she outranks him, steve is 1 of a kind.

Maybe he’s trying to desensitize her to survival and training her… or just having his fun which is unexpectedly training her, perhaps even both, and I wonder if that cross thing is real… Also, we *NEED* to see Steve’s backstory, is he just… like that, or was he different before…

Uno podria pensar que lo unico en lo que piensa Steve es en hacerle bromas pesadas a Alex ... pero la realidad dice otra cosa Esa tumba podria ser de alguien que acompaño a Steve y acabo muriendo a causa de los mobs Al conocer a Alex le recordo mucho a ella , asi que no quiso que la historia se volviera a repetir por lo que practicamente Steve entreno a Alex para que pudiera valerse por si misma experimentando un sin fin de situaciones donde Alex tuvo que encontrar la manera de sobrevivir a todas esas bromas pesadas pero que a su vez le sirvio de experiencia para poder ser la chica badass que es actualmente y todo gracias a las bromas de Steve O al menos quiero creer que asi va la historia xD

I like to think Steve knew in that kind of world with undead, exploding monsters and all kinds of stuff like that, you gotta be tough to survive. So while yes the pranks are his way of having fun you could also say it’s maybe him trying to bring out her anger and reflexes so she knew how to use it when she had to
