Agreed. But he has two mix with the masters breakdowns. I can break down his techniques for you since I saw both... It's essentially "FEEL" the music, go for emotion. don't be so damn technical. He uses sine vibes plugins, psp, Denise Audio, DIVA, and omnipshere mostly and exhale by output for the weird vocal stuff. CARVE CARVE and carve more with pro Q3. Denise plugins for special FX. Do a push and pull (or quiet sections and then ramp up intensity). dont be afraid to tweak knobs, that's where you find the magic with a preset. He also uses an ungodly amount of FX chains (too many). Compression for taste and to hone in the frequencies. For his drums, it's standard clip on the drum bus, and slate digital virtual mix channel is his tool of choice on quite literally every bus (to him it enhances each sound aka more of an analog feel). again a lot of automation, never keeps an FX going for the entire song, only certain parts . When you hear the weeknds tracks, they sound so full of life/moving. It's illangelos layered sounds with kontakt textures, omnipshere lush pads, divas analog presets, a lot of valhalla vintage verbs along with delay, and automation panning things, and dialing in compression. So there you go, his most important techniques. He also said the tools don't matter. he can use stock plugins, gets the same effect. He also constantly tries new plugins, and goes for emotion. I don't like producers who obsess about mixes. Your trying to break through to peoples feelings with music. Focus on that, and the rest will come together

People love saying this but a lot of mainstream artist record in hotel rooms and just acoustic nightmares of places no proper mic placement ….yet their music still is superb there’s definitely something else

It’s all about what you’re comfortable with. Every daw is basically the same but they do have different sounds to them and differ in the way you get from point A to B. I use Pro Tools but that was the first daw I was introduced to years ago.

it does not matter but if you want to easily work in the industry, use pro tools as it is what a lot of studios use.
