In a weekend solo, (subtle flex but okay) I did the engine replacement on my Speed3 (bought with blown engine)on the first start, the only thing I missed was a power steering line. Felt amazing. Still have the video of the start. You can hear my wife freak out because she didnt know what it was lol.

From memory, early MX5's use a VAF sensor, not a MAF sensor. A VAF (with the spring loaded flap) measures intake air volume. Where as a MAF (heated wire) measures the mass of the intake air. And what did you do about extra fuel? Without a retune, it will run lean under boost. And even if you tune the ECU, you can only run low boost without upgrading the injectors and fuel pump. But with enough fuel, you should be able to run around 12psi without blowing up the engine. Should be good for 200hp.

Nice bro! What are you running for engine management? I got an NB2 also with the VVT 1.8 and the only options I’ve found are super expensive compared to the non-VVT Miata. Engine management is gonna be the priciest part of my build besides my $1,400 Wilwood/Flyin’ Miata big brake kit.

I did that exact same thing right in front of my buddy who was gonna buy the car the same day shortly after i replaced the water pump. He backed out of the deal because we thought i blew the thing up, sounded like the worst spun bearing possible

what ecu do you have? i deleted my MAF with a Haltec oh and a list of my mistakes.... - fuel leaking, forgot to buy new injector adaptor for fuel rail - Forgot to install injector seals (in the intake) so more leaking fuel.... - Wrong hoses for turbo cooling - Forgot to block EGR pipe (huge vac leak) - Cut and welded my cast heater hose triple outlet wrong 3 times before i actually mock fitted and measured it (costed me almost $300 in total) - didnt tighten oil filter relocation (leaking mega oil) mines 2 months not running and still counting

Yeah I bought mine and it didn’t have a torqued water pump pulley. Belt fucked off in the end and almost tore the pulley clean off, that was a new belt, pulley, pump and timing belt (by a garage) 18 months later the timing belt stripped so new pump and belt time. 12 months later the crankshaft seals shit itself (I wanted to change it when doing the timing belt the first time but couldn’t get the woodruff key out to save my life and I was hurrying to get it ready for doing the NC500. So it’ll be getting another water pump and timing belt. It’ll have had 4 different pumps and belts in as many years

It’s honestly not easy to add a turbo to a car that is na. Lost of planing needs to be done. The mechanical side of things aren’t to bad, but the tuning aspect can do downhill quick! Props to u.

I installed a Subaru turbo on my mr2 spyder without a kit. I’m no mechanic barely have any tools, got it done in my driveway and am tuning it myself and got 0 help from anyone including forums. My only mistake was not installing new coil packs because the stock coil packs were old and not up to the task of forced induction which kept blowing out the spark under high load.
