It's amazing how many people who didn't speak English played and loved these games. There's one in every comment section. That's how incredible the atmosphere and storytelling is. You don't even need to know the language to feel the impact of this series. The world itself is a story that can be enjoyed past all borders.
@enigmaster842 жыл бұрын
Fortunately or not, except for the first Blood Omen there was an excellent translation in my native tongue, Italian. But it still couldn't beat the original English. Luckily SR2 and Defiance were multilingual, and I bought BO 1 and 2 from UK (stupid PAL gaming). I also have them all on GOG just because I like them too much.

What I love is the slow way this builds from disparate, somber sounds into a militant marching song. Especially that last little throat-singing note at 2:11. The single voice, like a hermetic monk in a cell, suddenly vanished against pipes, marching drums, and the slow chanting of a more ‘angelic’ sounding choir. All crescendoing beautifully at 3:12 into the Sarafan March. Orderly, unified and zealous. Before dropping back into silence abruptly. That sudden dip, I’ve always liked to imagine, represents the order crumbling after Vorador slaughtered the Circle. For a brief moment the Sarafan held Nosgoth in their armored, blood-soaked hands and then it was gone.

theres a part of the dialogue of Raziel and the Ghost of Moebius on the Blood Omen Era "I don't think this has anything to do with the Pillars or Kain's failure to sacrifice himself." the camera does a hard focus on raziel and the fact this track plays in the background gave that phrase a powerful meaning, the moment that Raziel states that he knows about Moebius machinations.
@mackenziepenny1335 Жыл бұрын
Especially when you consider Raziel's usually brash and sudden reacts to things and how calm and introspective he is when he says that. Second playthrough of Soul Reaver 2 that line gave me chills. Lol.

Amazing artwork, dense plotline, superb writing, top notch voice acting and overall good gameplay. I really miss the times when videogames where made to impress, done by a group of talented men and women who wanted to deliver a craft of the finest quality. One thing I really love about the beginning of this track is the ominous, sinister sound it conveys, before the more militaristic aspects of the theme properly kick in. Consider that, when the game begins and you first explore the stronghold, it is ages after the fall of the Sarafan, and is being used by Moebius's vampire hunters as a base of operations, and thus is long removed from its former glory and repute. Gradually, over the course of the game, little by little, and with varying perspectives, information is gleaned about the past, what occurred, and Raziel's purpose and how he fits into Kain's plan. That's why the ominous part at the beginning of the theme is so fitting for the setting: it's concealing a secret. A massive one, at that. And when that monumental revelation comes at the end of the game, with the climax ultimately coming in the same stronghold, it completely shatters everything the player and Raziel thought they knew to be true. Such a masterfully designed game and series, truly the peak of storytelling in the medium, and with a soundtrack that is 100% in service to that end, and is pretty damn great to boot.

The legacy of kain soundtrack is priceless. When I finally got into dark souls and played long enough the lack of music drove me crazy I quickly put one together out of blood omen, soul reaver and defiance. It didn't carry the exact mood it did in their original games but they were so good I can't play ds1 without it. Kurt does not get enough credit for his work on the series.

LOK Blood Omen and Soul Reaver 1 were amazing in story, one of the best. I loved the gameplay in the next ones, but they felt like the story was prolonged to generate money from then on. Originally we were meant to kill Turel in the original Soul Reaver, so I guess a lot of thing was changed to keep sequels coming.
@WisteriaNerium3 жыл бұрын
God, you're such a liar and with rose tinted glasses too. It was never meant to end with Soul Reaver 1, at the end Raziel would've still travelled back to the past, realizing that vampires were crucial to Nosgoth and it's not like they prolonged the story to make money, they didn't had the time or resources to implement all of the features. I like that they couldn't because that meant they actually could tell more developed stories with newer technology, it's not the devs being greedy you cynical douche.
@rainehappy70973 жыл бұрын
Soul Reaver 1 and 2 were like the first two Golden Sun games and first two Shenmue games, planned as a whole game but had to be split in half due to time constraint. What bites about the Soul Reaver games is they were supposed to connect using the same memory card and carry over stuff from one game to the next and expand the overworld. Because things changed with the PS2 and the extra time they took, the story got all turned around and had to be explained away with time travel and stuff ocuring offscreen with characters narrating it. I don't hate it. In face, I like it. It's one of the few time travel stories that doesn't eff it up and it all wraps up nicely by the end, even if the series ended on a cliffhanger.
