If you want unique fencing style, Cheremisonov has it is buckets. Unpredictable footwork, counterattacks that would impress even Joppich, and powerful running attacks!
You asked for a Cheremisinov vid weeks ago, and here it is 😁

For clarity: Cheremisinov is a 2-time Individual European champion, 1-time individual World Champion, has won multiple world cups and podium finishes. He is typically the anchor for the Russian team as well. I haven't even counted either the multitude of medals he has won with his team too including Olympic gold in 2016. He's a very unconventional fencer in terms of his approach (although that's probably due to the fact that his Schevtchenko, former Russian/USSR fencer was the same) but he does what he does really, really well.

There are a lot of interesting comments about Cheremisinov’s fencing. I am from Russia, so it’s interesting for me to read this. And I agree with most of you. Such an interesting fact: Cheremisinov is good at chess. My friend told me that he saw that he has won Magnus Carlson at 16 y.o. in his personal app. So, as you know, he was strong player in this age.)

That would make him stronger than the average chess grandmaster so I have my doubts 😂His fencing is very clever though so maybe it's true 🧐🧐

I get the feeling he just does everything pretty much by feel alone. No set up - just at one with the piste.

Cheremisinov is probably one of my least favorite fencers. I'm not gonna say that he's bad because he has some pretty good touches in here and obviously he's ranked very highly. BUT, his actions just seem so... ugly and choppy and bizarre. Most of his touches are just his opponents barely missing because his body is just in a weird place (almost getting lucky). Sure this is a valid strategy and that is what he wants his game to be, but I personally don't like it. Plus, he seems to have a very poor demeanor and is constantly being rude to other fencers. Idk. Good video though!

Hey, whatever works. Fencing isn't a beauty pageant.

It’s a bit more nuanced than just luck. He does his “good moves” but also actively mixes in those choppy/snappy movements to mess up his opponent’s timing. You can often see him doing multiple counter attempts during a single step by his opponent, this would break the momentum of the march and make the attacker twitchy or slow because of the constant and erratical change in distance. Allowing his opponents to have priority and exploiting their desire to finish IS his setup. He baits the attacker to strike from a distance or angle they’re not comfortable with whilst he already has a good idea where the attack would come from and actively dodges the blade accordingly. It all adds up to an illusion of luck, but in reality it’s more like he got into their head with his unorthodox stuff. The more his opponents think he got lucky or the more his opponent think they themselves are missing easy touches, the easier it gets for Cheremisinov. Because they’re blaming factors they can’t control when they should’ve reevaluated their approach completely.
