Hostiles is a criminally... absolutely criminally underrated masterpiece of a film. Perhaps one of Christian Bales best performances. The ratings and reviews it got online is what turned me off from it for so long until I finally watched it and wow... all I can say is this film ranks at least a 92% imo.

Christian Bale deserved a nomination just for the part where he finds his friend under the tree, the outpouring of raw emotions while others on their horses looked on. Masterpiece of a scene.

To me, Hostiles is about madness, looking deep, deep, into the abyss, seeing it for what it is, being just about to be taken, and having the will to say no and walk away. To walk away from giving in. Hostiles got me to turn around and walk away from ending it all. You can spend your life wasting away within yourself, or you can take the risk, step aboard that train and possibly fail, but it was your choice to do so. It is your life, no one else's or anything else's to command. Only you can save you, and even you are worth saving. I'm glad I didn't let myself down

After hearing that my grandfather had been diagnosed with cancer, this song - more specifically this medley even - started playing in my mind. It came as both refuge and companion during the following days, weeks... I couldn't help but listen to it, consistently, whether in my mind or during my trips to the hospital. It became a symbol of the importance of that man in my life, and of the tragedy that befell him in the end after a lifetime of achievements. I see Christian Bale in this thumbnail and easily put myself in his place, with that same stance, staring into the horizon, grateful for having had such a wonderful grandfather to show me the world, but sorrowful for having lost him in such a sudden manner. If you are reading this, and if your grandparents or parents - or someone else of significance for you - are still around, pause for a moment. Call them. Spend time with them. What I wouldn't give to embrace my grandfather once again, and thank him for saving my life so many a time.

Seeing this as a child would be traumatic. I'm 39 and this movie moved me in profound, unspeakable ways concerning shame, regret and collective guilt. It showed children being shot to death, and a mother's wail with children buried. I saw Schindler's List in the theater but that doesn't even come close to what this movie die to me. This film resonated with my personal perspective, extremely. I know many indigenous individuals and friends who resent or despise the “Caucasian” population, presently. It conflicted my views in my younger years, but eventually, I realized that the present “Caucasian” population had nothing to do with the past. The past that forced our people into residential schools and into these ghetto-like reservations. Fortunately, I’m thankful for many of you recognizing us today. Today is what matters. ❤

I understand indigenous people’s anger toward whites as they caused intergenerqtional trauma that sadly still has an impact today. KjempeIde Didn’t you notice that really great movies with a deep meaning are sometimes so underrated while simply entertaining or garbage is celebrated? I think those ratings talk about the people who rate the movies. They underrate great movies eather because they don’t understand them or simply are verry empty inside.

I've heard of this film didn't watch it till this weekend boy! I was touched, the scenery was gorgeous great raw acting from every character especially Christian bale. How it went from anger and hostility ( hostiles ) to forgiveness, working together, become a family in the end. My favorite line " We will never get use to the Lord's rough ways" may have quoted that wrong y'all can correct me. But I felt that personally no matter pain or troubled past your life can be or was, God Forgives the unforgivable loves the unlovable because He's a Holy and Just God, as a believer God gives us strength and peace through it all.

This movie is criminally underrated. It's cinematically beautiful, masterfully acted and directed, philosophically drenched of meaning and self reflection. This setting of the native Americans really carries weight... of all those who died because of who they were and where they were given the miracle and spontaneous deck of cards that life gave them at that time in existence. I'm blessed to be alive in this time we have now.

But today one can die ignored, without recognition, without a sense of duty and miserable, even though with more comfort than 2 centuries ago.Which is worse? To die in a modern age with comfort but feeling so alone or in a tile of turbulence but having at least had a sense of reward and of honour?

Grandios !!! Das nenn ich ein Meisterwerk! Ganz großes Kino. Absolut empfehlenswert.

There wasn't a scene where something sight happen. And the score... Perfection. One of the very rare gems to come out of Hollywood in the last 10 years. This movie deserves a solid 10 stars on every review website

A pleurer. Sans aucun doute dans mon top 5 des films les plus éblouissant que j'ai pu voir.

Really loved this movie. There is a scene with a outdoor prayer after various tragedies and brutal violence happens - it really got to me. More than any book ive read, or any history, those few people battered by sorrow on an empty plain, and forcing themselves to bitterly THANK GOD for how little they've been able to endure. Really made me think about the mentality that these people would have been forced to have. Sure, they could have given into self pity, and died. Living required something else. Powerful stuff and great acting by Bale.

I was on a packed Sitges train during rush hour in midtown de Barcelona when this song came through my earbuds on shuffle. The blank stares of the commuters turning to sorrow as the violins swooped and swayed around my heart. A train full of souls - not one speaking a single word to the other. I've never felt the weight of the human condition so much prior to that moment. So many yet so alone.
