This video was hilarious (I thought i was the only one who found it weird that straights said “we’re pregnant”) but in defense of the “partner” thing: I know a few straight people who say partner because they want to normalize not having to tell strangers your sexuality so if everyone started saying “partner” it wouldn’t be a dead giveaway that someone is in a same-sex relationship (if that makes any sense). the whole "partner" thing depends on the country though. in the UK it's more common to call your significant other your partner. my american friend pointed that out to me once because when she started working in london she thought at first that everyone was queer (which wasn't the case unfortunately). :D

This is really interesting, in a lot of ways, especially from a Swedish point of view. Though gender equality still can be much improved here, many of the things you point out, simply don't exist here. And...if they do, we adopted them from North America (US mostly). For instance, we linguistically have separate words for female friends and a girlfriend. The confusion, therfore, never occurs. I don't know anybody who has had a "gender revealing party" or a bachelorette party at a gay bar, decorated with dicks. However, what I have heard is the 'if I were a lesbian it would be much easier". You are great, so are your videos!

I'm straight, and had to watch when this popped up in my recommendations - the title got me. The same things that confuse you, confuse me - the "girlfriends" term, the "partner" term - you Cant be sure what it means. Also, I think gender reveal parties are stupid, and "we" are pregnant is icky. About "partner", though, i feel like that word has always been used as a gender neutral word to describe the other person in a couple, especially when you don't know or want to reveal the gender of the "first" (and/or second) referenced person. "A person and their partner". In my country, it is typically used in that way in official texts. "Man" and "wife" is actually not used in neither legislative texts or other official texts. And everyday speech, many straight couples feel that wife/husband feel antiquated. And it is of course only good that it also works well in a non-straight or non-binary context as well. And in polyamourous close relationships, I guess you just have to use plural, revealing that it's a multi-partner relationship. Great video! I know we’re taking this with a pinch of salt but for people who are actually confused by it I want to say something about the “we’re pregnant” thing. Yeah it might sound weird but the idea is that both of them are going through this and it’s to show that the guy is also equally invested and excited and wanting the baby. It’s usually couples who actively tried to get pregnant and I actually like when straight guys show they do want to have a baby and are there every step of the way with their significant other. We in the lgbtq community should know to let others celebrate their happiness the way they want (as long as they’re not hurting anyone) and I think by saying “we’re pregnant” they’re just both equally happy to go through the journey together, I think it’s really sweet 😊 also straight couples saying “partner” is a lot of the times because there actually is a stigma if you’re not married and are for example over 30/40 and some people feel more comfortable saying parter to show significance of the relationship and respect for the other rather than “girlfriend/boyfriend”. and in some countries you can actually legally get a partnership status OR get married regardless of gender so some people are actually legally partners. 😊💕 thanks for great content guys!

The Girlfriend and friend thing is even harder in German tho. You just have the word Freundin and it's the same for a friend and a girlfriend. So basically you have to figure out every damn time if the girl you're talking to has a girlfriend or is simply talking about a normal friend, that shit is hard

I'm a straight woman and I also find most of these really weird. The only thing I do is call my partner, a partner. I only started doing this since I came to Australia last year because here, everyone does that. It doesn't matter if you're in a long term relationship, married, just started the relationship, male, female, etc and I really like that nobody cares. I agree that it's confusing though!
