Thanks to a trick second row seat design, the XT6 is our top pick for young families looking for a premium 3-row CUV. On the downside the XT6's price tag seems a bit too large when you stack it up against the competition from Acura, Volvo and Lincoln.

People (especially some KZfaq car reviewers or keyboard warriors) like to whine about completely irrelevant things like parts sharing or the material of the windshield defrost vents. Not sure why, maybe it’s because they think that being critical makes them sound more credible. Personally, I’d rather have cars built with parts bin parts and durable materials because, if you’re going to keep it more than a couple years, those things will help you keep it on the road longer for less money. Having window switches that are used in a Chevy also used in a Cadillac is totally fine and not going to be noticeable by any regular person, as long as they aren’t complete crap. But it also means that if the window switches fail, they won’t be as expensive to replace since they aren’t specific to one or two Cadillac models only.

Prepare to be disappointed 😂🤣😆 Why? Simple: it’s the TNGA K platform. It’s not space efficient. Plus since when does Toyota or Lexus surpass expectations? 12th of never 😆. Anyone saying this is the worst interior Cadillac has produced I can almost guarantee you they’ve *never* even stepped foot inside a Cadillac XT6. The materials, quality, fit & finish is what sets this apart from vehicles like a Kia Telluride, GMC Acadia, or Palisade. You don’t get the same materials until you’re at the higher trim levels in the Hyundai and at that point you’re spending about the same money for a Hyundai and that’s before the notorious palisade dealership markup.

I’ve always wished Cadillac would produce a “baby Escalade” that although smaller, would look (and feel) like an Escalade. Instead they simply produced the SRX/XT5 and now XT6. I’m glad they finally placed something in the gap between the Escalade and XT5. Given their competition though, those models always make me think “luxurious Chevy.” I wouldn’t pay $45k for that XT6, and even more so $72k given the alternatives, because the XT6 just seems boringly bland. And it’s surprising the base engine is the 2.0 and not the 2.7. In the rare times I’ve seen them, they’re driven by the elderly, when I know Cadillac can and should do better. - Great review as always though Alex!

Well said, I don't necessarily have a problem with parts sharing when it comes to interior switchgear. But if I'm going to be spending that much money on a CUV that has the same powertrain as its lower end counterparts. No thank you. I mentioned in a separate comment a more modern engine lineup. Utilizing their current engines. Which would also give Cadillac's CUV lineup V-Sport models.

I do love the exterior of the XT6, though the interior needs an update to bring it in line with the Escalade and Lyriq. It’s a bit expensive for the features that you get, especially the engine options and interior. That’s the big problem for this vehicle. The price to value proposition is a bit hard to justify for me.

GM should have made the 2.7t and 3.0tt more modular, while updating the XTS V-Sport 3.6tt. The XT4 getting the 2.0t for the Luxury and base Premium Luxury trim. The 2.7t for uprated Premium Luxury, while being standard on the V-Sport. The XT5 getting the 2.7t for the Luxury trim and base Premium Luxury trim. The 3.0tt being the uprated Premium Luxury and V-Sport trim. The XT6 getting the 3.0tt for the Luxury and base Premium Luxury trim. And the updated 3.6tt for the Premium Luxury and V-Sport models. The updated 3.6tt mated to the 9 spd producing around 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of tq. That should have been their lineup since the 2.7t came out for the Silverado and Sierra.
@markmiller3279
@markmiller3279 Жыл бұрын
Too logical, and probably more than GM wanted to invest. They like to use some really old engines for as long as possible. All of the outputs are low for the displacements. Other companies' turbo, 2-liter fours are getting 300 hp and similar torque numbers. This need a six to get similar numbers while the base turbo four is a weakling. Unimpressive in the extreme. Your proposed engine lineup would have been much more modern.
@99-Zulu
@99-Zulu Жыл бұрын
@@markmiller3279 Well I don't know why they didn't update the LTG for better NVH while also maintaining its power. It was producing 272 hp 10 years ago. Hell in the Camaro it produces 275 hp. Both with 295 lb-ft of tq. Instead we get the LSY with 237 hp and 259 lb-ft of tq. EPA rates it slightly better in fuel economy. But in real world driving its not going to be any better. As always GM misses great opportunities, my suggested engine lineup is more modern. While producing relative power and tq with the competition. They would have gotten their V-Sport CUV models while having up-to-date engines. They missed an opportunity with the Silverado and Sierra, they put the updated LT4 into the Escalade. But completely missed the market with the Raptor and TRX. Which are doing well for not only sales but bringing people into their dealerships. Giving them great PR, they don't need to sell all of them they just need to create traffic.

My wife was happy with her 2020 XT6 Sport. I replaced with a 2022 Enclave Avenir. The Avenir offers a larger interior. A nicer ride perhaps due to longer wheelbase. And the new refresh offers improved exterior lighting from the previous Enclave. The pricing is actually similar once you fully equip the Buick. But for practicality, ride and quietness the Buick is actually better. Funny everyone at the dealership already knew the Buicks advantage over the Caddy. Only thing missing is the possible panache the Cadillac name holds.

I test drive the XT6 while shopping for a new family car. I felt the interior was not up to the same standard as Acura or a Mazda CX-9. After all my shopping I went with a VW Atlas SEL. It was priced in the mid 40s and feels on the same level of luxury as the Cadillac.
@TheCoffeeField
@TheCoffeeField Жыл бұрын
That’s super interested. I shopped for the Atlas and ended up with the XT6. The Atlas interior felt cheap and not luxurious (it shouldn’t be) compared to the XT6 and the dealers wouldn’t budge. The lease payment was only $15 less than the Caddy, despite hard negotiations in 2021 before the craziness of the supply situation
@markmiller3279
@markmiller3279 Жыл бұрын
@@TheCoffeeField I agree. I sat in an Atlas at a car show a few years back and found the interior terribly cheap, full of hard plastics that aren't obvious in photos. It reminded me overmuch of the Jetta, which also has a crummy interior, even next to a Golf or GTI, which are far nicer. VW seems to think Americans don't care, or they've designed them for the Chinese market, where price is critical. The US is a minor market in comparison.

Cadillac desperately needed to enter into this class after such a late arrival. But I feel GM gave it such a small budget since Cadillac was moving full-steam ahead on EVs. This vehicle does not make a solid case to purchase it over a GMC Acadia Denali for instance. I'd even go so far as to say the Hyundai Palisade Caligraphy is more luxurious and substantially cheaper. And at $72K(with spartan guages and Chevy-quality leather), you can get a loaded Genesis GV80 for that money, on top of an X5 or GLE with a good amount of options. I also wish that Cadillac based it on the larger Traverse platform over the smaller GMC. It just looks so stubby from certain angles plus the longer wheelbase would've helped with interior packaging. Alex, small caveat: The QX60 also uses a 3.5L nat aspirated V6 as well.

A 70K car becomes about a $2500/mo drain over 5 years of ownership when you include the cut to uncle Sam and finance charges, sales tax, license every year, and fuel and insurance and maintenance. Do the math. Many people paid 50- 70K for trucks and SUVs and they are surely being taken to the cleaners and inevitable bankruptcy and soon as well. I'm not concerned about people paying 250K on a Porsche but people buying something like this will be hit hard financially b/c they are actually 30K buyers purchasing 70K product.

I cannot get inor out of the back seat of the Telluride or Palisade because their B pillars are too far back. They leave no room for my feet to clear.

I saw the xt6 last week and it’s a disappointment !! Nothing about it is worth the price , very outdated in the inside & doesn’t look or feel luxurious from the inside or outside . I hope GM learn from Lincoln how to design elegant vehicles..

Car manufacturers keep hiring dumb interior designers who keep coming up with these stupid three row seat that can fit only 6 passengers, or let's say one extra passenger versus a small compact SUV. You lose the cargo area almost completely just because you have one extra passenger. This 2 -2 - 2 seat configuration works only for dropping your children to school, and that's about it. It's not good for long trips it's not good even for giving the family a ride to the airport.

I so agree. People buy these to carry a bunch of small kids. That back seat is plenty wide enough for three of those, and a center bench should at least be an option.

@@naveenthemachine At least an excuse can be made for the Lexus that it had been ages since it was redesigned. And Lexus recently gave a complete makeover to its RX. This XT6 soldiers fully unchanged and just as dull as when it debuted.
