@@pericodelospalotes5738 But I do recommend getting footies for your dog if it gets too hot, cold or that you would walk on something sharp. A good rule would be that if you can't walk on it yourselfwithout a protective barrier comfortably, your dog won't be able to either. I hate it when dog owners don't make sure that their dogs are actually comfortable in all weathers. Especially because here in Finland, the dogs can be hurt in our weathers and environments very easily.

I've seen these in action, made by professionals at using alternative types of hoof protection. And it still, to this day, feels like a lot of chance is involved. If one of the many factors needed for these, or adhesive options, can not be achived, they tend be faulty. They work fine when everything is perfectly prepared, which sometimes just isn't an option e.g. you come to a private owner, and the horses stand in mud all day. An adhesive wont work properly except you go through a long process of drying and so on. And most importantly, a lot of horses do not have the patience for that kind of procedure. At least I havent seen a lot who do in my years. All these alternative horseshoes have their place to be used, but they are an >Option< but not a >Replacement< for iron. People tend to forget that. But, I gotta say, you work beautifully and I hope there will always be farriers like you who can do these types of shoeing this well, so people like me don't have to. Cheers from austria!

This video raised more questions than answers for me. / Installation seems a bit finicky and could be problematic if not properly installed. For example @11:54 it looks like there may be a bare spot where it did not fill in between the hoof and the mold. I can think of several ways to modify the mold to reduce the risk of air bubbles being trapped in the mold or leaving gaps. / Hoe many times can a mold be reused? / How does the final product affect the normal growth of the hoof? / I.E. Will it cause problems with a healthy hoof? Stunted growth? misshapen growth? / How does it adjust to normal hoof growth? Does it crack or break apart as the hoof grows larger? / How hard is the material? Does it allow any give or is it like walking on concrete transmitting vibration to the horses feet, leg, ankle? / Since it's bonded to the hoof, If it cracks or breaks will it rip the hoof apart as well? / How long does it last compared to a standard shoe? / Since it will wear unevenly how thin can it be in any one area before it needs to be replaced. / Video could do without the music. Especially when they're talking.

You're on the right track. there's definitely improvements to be made. Make sure to look into things like "shore hardness". I've considered this for my horse as well, and being a mechanical engineer I've had very similar questions.
@need100k
@need100k 2 жыл бұрын
I have the same questions. But also, even though they applied an anti-bacterial solution, if even one bacteria remains alive it can cause problems. As for growth, I did some research and found that a horse's hoof can grow about 1/4" per month, and, just like our fingernails, they grow from the top. So really, how often are these expected to last? I think this is a great solution for some instances where a horse needs extra protection, but I do not think it's a good idea for everyday, continuous use.

This is very interesting. I was shoeing horses when I was age 10. I have the scares on my forearms to show for it. My grandfather was a master farrier and shod race horses until about 1960 age 80. He would use his anvil for exercise in the morning. In the 20's he attended Cornell University, NY Vet school to learn horse physiology so he could do corrective shoeing. He thought it up. He would go down to the practice track very early in the morning and watch them train. He could look at them going through their paces so he could determine the correct way he was going to treat their feet and shoe them. Then they would bring their horse up to the tent for their shoes. In the 50's he was getting $40-$100 horse to shoe them. He used aluminum shoes and long before that he put borium shoes for the NYC police dept. horses in the 30's. He had the contract for the entire NYC police department. He was from Steuben Co, NY. Indeed he would have found this very interesting.

🧐 the horses shoe has gone through many evolutions Around 2500 BC, war horses normally strapped on chariots were widely used in warfare, and horses had to be equipped with some form of protective foot gear made out of leather. At any rate, the practice of horseshoe-making became widespread during 1000 AD, mostly in Europe. The shoes were made from light bronze alloys characterized by a scalloped shape structure and six nail holes. Over time, the scallop-shaped shoes gradually disappeared. Two nail holes were added into the design. This resulted in a wider and heavier structure. By the 14th century, horseshoes became a common commodity. It began selling in large quantities in medieval Europe. Specialized shoes were designed for horses used in different situations such as trade, transportation, or war. By the early 1900s, equestrian horseshoes became a commercial success, owing to a stable market brought by the emergence of horse-riding as a sport. It was during the 1900 Olympic Games that equestrian was introduced to the world as a competitive sport. A new age dawned for horseshoes and horse use in general.

I think this would be good in a situation where a hoof wall is broken a way to fix it. But I can't imagine sealing up the frog and the inside of the hoof and it not getting any air circulation and this being healthy and not a breeding ground for bacteria or to over soften it. Kudos to the horse in this video though. I think this would be awfully hard to do for a horse that didn't stand this patient or still. And when he said it's going through the curing process I seen the horse pick his hoof up quickly I'm wondering if the curing process doesn't get too hot

I wonder about the breathability/flexibility important to the frog and growing hoof and sole structures if sealed behind polyurethane. Won't that artificial, non-permeable environment create a damp, warm haven for all sorts of bacteria and fungi to thrive ? I think the concept has merit ... just not sure the prototype has got rid of some potentially major hoof health risks/issues. Like others, I also wonder how difficult the formahoof will be to remove and further weaken/ damage the hoof wall in the process.

It would seem to be a well trained horse who's owners are good to it. It clearly has no problem trusting all the people around it, who are picking up and moving its legs. If the owners did not spend as much time with it as they obviously do, I doubt it would have been so well behaved. Edit: In fact, you can see at 4:00 when the farrier walks around the front of the horse, it just picks up its right leg for him, so I doubt any sort of drugs were used, as the horse is clearly alert.

I don't know anything about farm animals, or rather, horses, but, I enjoyed watching this. It was pretty neat to see technology helping like this. Of course, it was still difficult for me to pay close attention, as the majority of the time, I kept worrying that the horse was gonna bite the guy working on his feet, even though, I don't factually know that horses bite people, LOL.. Sorry, I live in the city. I mention that, to state, that I watched this video twice. The second time, so I could just watch it, and not wonder if the horse would bite the guy. Pretty amazing stuff. Again, I enjoyed seeing this video.

Fantastic... She's so light on on feet afterwards... This is shoeing of the future... My husband is a farrier and he's been using resin to fill areas needing adjustments for medical reasons and injuries... This is just the next step up in comfort 😎👌 thanks for sharing
