Back to the Future 1, 2, and 3 fit together so well, it's like watching one movie. It's one of the few trilogies where every part is great. See them all, definitely!

It might be the only perfect trilogy(personally I’d also say Batman/DK but I know some people don’t like the last one as much),I saw them all as they were coming out as a kid and wasn’t slightly disappointed with any off them. Plus like you said it’s a perfectly told story over 3 movies. Even without the sequels this one is an absolute classic on its own and for almost 5 years it was the only one, there are film schools(at least USC) that use it as an example of a perfect script. This is just a long way of saying he’s right you should watch them all😜

2 things to know before watching the second one: - the part of Jennifer was recast because Claudia Wells was unavailable because she was taking care of her ill mother - Near the end when it says "To Be Concluded" you need to stop it because it will be followed by scenes from the third one which will be spoilers

An interesting thing to think about. There’s two ways to look at what happened. The first and what the movie shows is Marty helped save his parents relationship and helped them become better versions of themselves which results in a happy ending for them and Marty. The second way to look at it which is kind of dark is Marty is now living with people he technically doesn’t know, didn’t grow up with and his real family is gone. Did he set fire to the rug when he was 8? Probably not. Marty didn’t grow up with successful George and Loraine and their other kids . So his real family is gone.

26:10 It's a stroke of brilliance, the change in the dynamic they set up between Lorraine, George and Biff. The _first_ time through, Lorraine's heart went out to George because he was the little lost puppy that her dad hit with his car. The _second_ time through, George and Lorraine ended up together because George came to her _rescue._ Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant.

This movie has a very unique ending. There are three climaxes at the end. First the drama at the dance, then the action at the clock tower, then more action and relief at the mall and then an epilog at home as everyone is revealed in their new forms. Then finally there is a hook for an imaginary sequel. It's considered one of the best movie scripts in it's plot structure and pacing. Great reaction, BTW!

I still get chills watching this even though I’ve seen it SO many times. I know that might seem odd to anyone who isn’t “into it”, but there’s so many components that make this movie so spectacular…it has everything! When I saw it in the theater on its release, it had the same exhilaration as getting off an amusement ride. It’s a fantastic story and Alan Sylvestri’s score just catapults the viewer.

38:36 "What about all that _talk..._ about screwing up future events; the space-time continuum?" "Well, I figured, what the hell." Doc had to protect the timeline. That meant making sure that Marty had an urgent need to deliver the warning to his 1955 counterpart. That meant it wasn't enough for him to just _survive._ He had to survive in such a way that both the terrorists _and_ Marty legitimately believed he was dead.

39:46 Consider the _incredible_ ways the timeline has changed because of Marty. His house is much _nicer._ His sister Linda is _popular._ His brother Dave has a _good_ job. His parents are _happy._ Biff is detailing George's _car,_ not stealing credit for his _work._ His father pursued his dream and became a successful _author._ The household has a _few_ different vehicles, one of which belongs specifically to _him._

Always loved how each comic book type sci fi detail is totally linked and integrated into the story, cause and effect, and with humor. Doc was over the top which made it hilarious. His expression "Great Scott" is right out of the Superman comic books from the past. Christopher Lloyd as "Doc" should have at least gotten nominated for an Oscar. Lloyd was well known before as playing the quirky character "Jim" on the "Taxi" TV show [1978 to 1983]. "Daddio" was an expression from the 1950's. The entire movie was SUPPOSED to be campy....that's what makes it so funny.... a comic book that comes to life...

The sequels are worth watching. They get a little crazier with the time travel premise in Part 2, while Part 3's plot has a little more in common with the first movie (really trying to avoid spoilers here.) But in all, it's considered one of the all-time best movie trilogies. Every now and then people talk about making a sequel or a reboot, but the general consensus with most fans is that the series should be left alone instead of dragged out with unnecessary and inferior sequels (though there was a video game some years ago that was written by the original screenwriter and is considered essentially to be Part 4.) Once you get through the other two movies, you start to see how the story is starting to struggle holding itself together in regards to the time travel premise and the rules the movies try to apply to it.

When this movie was new in the theater, we also did not really know what to expect ... and boy this turned out to be a joy to watch for the first time. You have to remember, this was made as a "one and done" movie because, at the time they just hoped to break even with the production costs (so, all the scenes near the end of the movie talking about taking the car into the future were just to add a playful touch). However, after this movie became a "big major hit", they got the "green light" to do a second movie. In my opinion the first movie, I would rate as "A+" the second movie as "C" and the third movie as "A-" (with the 3rd movie however, being the one, I prefer to re-watch the most).

Hey Alexxa, thanks for a nice reaction. Interesting fact (maybe intentional, maybe not): George floors Biff with his left hand. At that time forcing left-handed kids to use their right was common and it caused all sorts of issues like stammering and low self-esteem. It's reasonable to think that happened to George and his left-hand is his primary one. (Another George - King George IV - was also forced to use his right hand, and you should watch "The King's Speech" if you haven't seen it. Brilliant film.)

In theory, he would always have gone into the past but that is the paradox that pretty much makes time-traveling back seem impossible. The movie has to skirt that to make the story work. Like Goldie Wilson had already thought of - and succeeded in becoming mayor before and Marty may have reinforced it. Or something like that. Because when Marty gets back to 1985, things have changed but in theory, they always would have been that way. (Or if Marty had NOT succeeded in getting his parents together, than he would not have been born, so he couldn't go back and helped his parents get together, thus things would have been the same as it was at the start of the movie. Again, an unresolvable paradox.)

Your points are 100 percent correct. The element, I loved in this movie (and, I watched it when new in the theater) was the use of bothers and sisters leaving a family photograph in sections. Of course this should have been instant for all siblings at the same time. But, creating this fading effect added to the urgency within each screen (smile...smile).

I’m always pleased to see how well this still holds up for people just seeing it now,I thought maybe by this point it would be odd that the “present” is now further in the past than the 1950s were at the time. Another trivia: there were 3 actresses for Marty's girlfriend. Melora Hardin, Claudia Wells and Elizabeth Shue. Melora was replaced because Eric Stoltz (the first Marty) was replaced. She is the hot boss in The Office, Steve Carrell's gf. Claudia didn't do BTTF2 because her mom had cancer. Elizabeth went on to have a successful career, won an Oscar too.
