@@arandommuffin1595 The ''new'' one yes. There is an old layout which was a 10,5 km public road course, running trough the town centre and Watkins Glen state park. After a gruesome crash in '53 with a young spectator actually losing his life, it was moved over to the other side of Seneca lake and shortened to 3,5km, to later on in the 70's get its 4 additional corners to add another 1,8km.

Estoril is still used for local and national events, Long Beach is now used by Indycar for the Grand Prix of Long Beach. Adelaide is currently used for Supercars events since 1999. The track has now been shortened, with the circuit going off at Bartels Road down now infamous Turn 8 sweeper to re-join at the former layout. Unsure on Magny-Cours. Watkins Glen is still used for several events, including NASCAR. Unsure on the original Zanvoort.

G'day I'm surprised you missed the Adelaide F1 street track... it hosted some epic races like in 1986 when Mansel, Piquet and Prost were all in contention to win the World Drivers Championship at the last race in Adelaide ...unfortunately for Mansel he blew a tyre with 19 laps left, Prost went on to win the race ahead of Piquet to claim his 2nd championship title The Adelaide GP was also the last win for Senna in 93 before he tragically died the following year at Imola The track is still used today for Australian Supercars, and hosts the Adelaide 500, which is held over four days in early March, the "500" itself currently consists of two 250 km races. Keep up the great work! I thoroughly enjoy watching your uploads 👍

Adelaide the first modern Grand Prix-- the first with real city and government involvement. Bernie used Adelaide as an example for years to old tracks and organisations and new tracks of how a GP should be run. Still has the largest official race day crowd of 202,000 for the last Adelaide GP . Despite Melbourne being 5 times bigger than Adelaide crowds are no bigger, in fact Melbourne counts all the track staff and competitors in its crowd figures -true story

Here's another track in case you want to make episode 6. Zandvoort was the host for the Dutch grand Prix for many years. Niki Lauda was the last winner on this track in 1985. The track is reconsidered toreturn on the f1 calendar in 2020. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dutch_Grand_Prix

the mall is still there, but I lived in the apartments they built there about 12 years ago. the area grew massively in the early 90s and became the fastest growing city in America for 2 straight years. the track worked when it was 30 000 people but once it grew the land owner who was an American football player sold it for a ton to build centers and residential areas. the sound of can am cars and naacar would fill the valley on race weekends. it's the reason I love racing, growing up near that track. love the videos Alex

First let me say nice that more people are interested in old race tracks. I run a website about it since 2003 and also my KZfaq channel is dedicated to it. About Riverside: This circuit was sold in 1988 to a project devoleper. It has been completely demolished and there is a shopping mall now. In 2012 I visited the site, but there is notinh left, not even a small memorial.

If you ever do another part, then you could look into the Pescara GP, in Pescara, Italy. It was held just the once, and I believe it's the longest track ever used during the official F1 championship era. There's also one in Boavista, Portugal you could look at. Good series btw, I enjoyed watching these. 🙂

NASCAR left Riverside in 1988 because it was being destroyed to make condos. It was sad because it was “the road course” on the West Coast for decades. It was 2 hours from LA so it used in several movies and TV series.

Franco's Guarda heavily suppressed concerns over the condition of the Montjuic circuit. When teams, marshals and spectators expressed concerns, the Guarda utilised various intimidation tactics to lead concerned eyes away from the poorly fastened barriers (Stommolen would eventually break through, not over, through the loose barriers during the race, killing 5 people).

Riverside was slated for demolition for a shopping mall for years before it was actually even closed, and NASCAR continued to go there in the intervening years, until it was closed in 1989, and subsequently demolished for the Moreno Valley Mall in Moreno Valley, CA. And, I can't remember if you've done this one, yet, but the story behind why Ontario Motor Speedway (which held the non-championship Questor Grand Prix in 1971) was torn down is interesting, and speaks to the fallible nature of the human race.

It wasn’t the fact that NASCAR left, it’s that all the series that raced there had to leave. The track was shut down around the mid to late 80s when housing areas were being put up next to the track, so it had to be shut down for more suburb area. Ya try to find modern images of it, it’s cause it doesn’t exist anymore. Which it’s really sad cause it was such a good track, I’ve raced it in one of the Indy 500 games. I honestly hope they try to recreate it in like Project Cars, Race Room or any of the racing games/simulator.

Riverside shut down in 1988 and is not there anymore. It was demolished in the 1990s and a shopping mall was put their. It is in California and nascar did everything they could to keep it because everyone loved it but the track couldn’t support anything anymore.

Maybe you could do circuit Mont-Tremblant (called St-Jovite at the time of the GPs) in Québec, Canada. It hosted 2 F1 Grand Prix after Mosport and is in the middle of nowhere. It is still in use and I went there last year. It is in the forest and has a lot of elevation changes, so It is pretty cool in my opinion.

Have to admit I didn't give much thought to North American tracks that were left behind when I offered suggestions after the fourth episode of this series. Probably some psychological twist to it. Could have something to do with the Ceasar's Palace monstrosity. I know I was particularly bitter about that (as is often the case, it was all about the money) after attending Watkins Glen faithfully for ten years before it was sold off to Nascar. Vegas just seemed so tawdry a place (parking lots - like autocross for Formula One!) for a series that is highlighted annually at Monaco. Not a proud time for Americans. Someone has already mentioned Riverside being torn down for a shopping mall. Some great racing there though, including Can-Am. It was also the test venue for Carrol Shelby's team where they ran his car that won a world title. Lots of stories there. Let's not forget the famous track north of our border - Mosport! Home of the famous double apex Moss corner. No, the track was not named as a tribute to the legend of Stirling Moss, but, rather just a short form of 'MOtor SPORT'. Some fabulous racing there and my brother and I still reminisce about watching the SIX WHEEL Tyrell fly sideways in the turn at the end of the Andretti Straight. Six wheel drifts! Glorious! Overall a great job, Alex!

If you look at where the Moreno Valley Mall is at would be where Riverside was at The reason Riverside closed was that urban sprawl was booming in the 80’s and people were complaining about the racetrack and the noise of the racing cars made and in 1984 Moreno Valley was incorporated and the Raceway was part of the city of Moreno Valley You can find more on Riverside on Wikipedia and on historicarials.com and look at RIR from the beginning to the end of its life

Peak Racer Keep the track as it is, BUT drop the run off and replace it with grass and gravel traps. Optional: Drop the Chicane Du Nord and use the full Mistral Straight. That alone already will be a fix. They probably work on the infrastructure for next year, so yeah there's plenty of room for improvement at Paul Ricard.

Yeah he was totally off on Riverside! Riverside was not dropped because it was "dangerous" for Grand Prix cars. The massive 7 liter McLaren and twin-turbo Porsch 917 Can Am cars were both bigger and faster than the F1 cars of the era. GP/F1 left because at that time it really did not have the same prestige in America as it did in Europe. I would also assume that logistics would have been a nightmare, and costs for teams to get there were astronomical. Similar situation for Long Beach - F1 was much more expensive to run than the domestic CART/Indy Car series. Riverside succumbed not due to lack of racing, but that the land it was on became too valuable as the area started developing rapidly.
