Abandoned Urbex Canada

Күн бұрын

Wasaga Beach Speedway is located in Wasaga Beach, Ontario, Canada. This abandoned race track in the woods has been abandoned for over 50 years. Some people living in this small town for years are not even aware this is here. Ontario Parks now owns the land and its used for walking trails and is open to the public. It opened August 14 1954 and closed in 1970. There used to be a 1/2 mile horse track but has now grown over. Later on the added the paved 1/4 mile oval race car track.

About me:
I have been exploring abandoned places since I was a child and now I would like to film the explores and share the videos with you.
My father took me to my first abandoned house when I was 7 years old. I remember going into the house and a old farmer came in and told us "we better watch out as the floors are all rotten and unsafe". Ever since that day I was hooked on exploring abandoned places.
If you have a location you would like to share with me or want me to explore for you please send me an email at abandonedurbexcanada@hotmail.com and I will give you full credit for the share in the description and during the video if you choose.

Thanks Brent. I raced on this track several times in 1964. The pile of concrete curbs are not from the track. They are from the beach. The provincial park used the track to store curbs, gravel, posts and other items used at the beach.

@@marthamitchell9452 no , l no longer live in that area . l now live in a really small community on the oregon coast called waldport , 18 miles south of Newport . But l love old car shows because my dad and uncle used to buy old cars for 50 bucks , speed em up and race them . They crunched up a bunch of them in the demolition derbys . My dad used to say that if he still had all of those cars , he'd be a millionaire. Hahaha

I grew up a quarter of a mile away from one of these tracks just on the South side of Lake Ontario. Drag races on Friday night and stock cars on Saturday. Because we lived so close the owners gave us season passes and it was a large part of my childhod.

I remember back when I lived for Saturday night. There was nothing better than watching them cars go around and around. What made it even better was watching the car that my dad built. He built competitive cars. We raced in Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska, Nevada and Missouri. I got to meet Wendell Scott one summer.

Yeah, just the few pucs you had were probably important times in other people's lives who may no longer be with us today. If your any type of auto enthusiasts, you cant help but enjoy at least an occasional trip to a cool summers nite race out in the middle of nowhere, at a local small town race track. 🏁 Nothing like a trip to the concession stand & eating ur food & watching some local fan favorites racing their cars. How hard they work all week in their spare time to enjoy the sport, while getting to put on a show for the spectators in the stands. I real slice of wholesome fun in Western culture, & some others as well. Thx for a great video of a once magical place for hard working pple who just loved a lil competition & tradin paint once in a while. U never know how good ya got it, till ya dont.

Great explore, and thanks for showing the before and after pics. Really gives an idea of how nature reclaims. It's interesting that many of the locals aren't aware of the history sitting close by, hidden in the woods. We live near Delaware Speedway, it's been going since 1952. There are races happening regularly on the half mile track. I remember my Dad taking me during school holidays, watching the demolition derbies was my favourite! We can still hear them on a summer's evening when they're up and running. The place doesn't look any different now than it did then. I think even the bleachers are the same ones! Cripes, that's 70 years they've been at it! Cheers Brent! Marian 🇨🇦 P.S. Congratulations on zipping past the 100,000 subs!!

First video of yours that I have come across and watched. I loved it. Being a racing fan, both professional and locally, most of the life, this one was very interesting. It is sad how so many tracks, both Nascar and local tracks have closed even just in the last 20 years. There are many of us who never would have known that this even existed if not for your video. Thank you for bringing it to light. It is people like you that help to keep the memory of these places alive. Thank you for such an amazing video. I look forward to watching more of your videos. Really enjoyed this find Brent!! Memories of the race car track a few towns away from ours back in the early 70's flooded my mind....boy oh boy...that was a popular event! Track was located out in the country of northwest Indiana. My HS boyfriend loved cars and racing. Thus, I started attending too. Can't recall for certain, but I think it was a dirt track! And think they raced "stock cars"....oh goodness.....next trip home to Indiana, I'm going to have to try & find it🙂 Brent, I'm just Very Thankful for your explores!❤ You do an amazing job, and I always look forward to spending time with you! I agree. I'm so tired of getting tickets. It would be a blast but nowadays people are too uptight. They want everyone controlled. Having to come to a screeching stop on a yellow or they'll get you for 400 dollars. I could understand if the light was already red but geez it's getting ridiculous.

@@lorimiller4301 good timing on that comment. I just saw on the news last night the cops (not sure if OPP or local) are going to be trying a pilot project using large mall parking lots after hours to allow a controlled environment for drifting/bit of racing etc. (Pretty sure if you search one the local T.O. news sites you'll find the piece, I think I saw it on CTV) Kinda like a car meet where you can open it up without fear of tickets. I'll keep an open mind to see how it goes, but at least it's a forward thinking idea, if you don't have to chance getting busted in an industrial park at 2am why not try it. Cops finally realized if you can't beat em... (bit similar to the pot legislation in way, ppl are going to do it anyway so...) Cheers 👍 🏎🏎🏍🏍

We had these small tracks on Long Island too. I remember the old Riverhead dirt track raceway and Islip, then there was a dirt bike track in Bridgehampton. They used to run the figure eight races and the demolition derby. I’m thinking that with the insurance and liability factors, these small tracks are pretty much absolete these days.!we have one here in Florida….Desoto speedway and it’s pretty cool. They have Fan participation where you can bring your own car out there and race….some people have and regretted it and they have the powder puff races for the ladies.

I could be wrong, but I believe Wasaga Beach is the largest freshwater beach in Canada. I used to live 20 minutes from there, outside of Collingwood, believe me locals avoid it in the summer. On the main drag of the beach, there used to be an outdoor mall, with a pretty sweet arcade, but it burned down back in 2007.

That was really neat. I guess the park doesn’t want to put any money into it. Great find..the drone gives a good overall view Take care 🇨🇦❤️

I never got a chance to go to the Dayton Motor Speedway... I it was shut down due to complaints from the people that lived close by. Hell from the stories and pictures I've heard and seen I would have wanted to live in the parking area...

For those not familiar with Wasaga beach it's about an hour and a half to two hours north of Toronto depending where you're coming from and is the worlds longest fresh water beach in the world. It's a great place to be on a hot summer day and well worth visiting if you're planning a trip to Ontario.
