! ! If you want to modify your oil pump watch part 8 first !!
The aeration of the oil could not be solely contributed to the pressure relief valve !!!!!!

I will do a follow up on this episode because I forgot to name the main benefit of installing the oil pump drive gear later. And that is that you can feel if the pump is lined out correctly.

@@wbanderson Hello I missed your question sorry. On my track day car I used the hole for the sump ventilation, widened it and made a flange for the sensor. At first I used a hose clamp on the cam for the trigger and later welded a piece of metal on the camshaft bush. And bought a GTA oil cap for sump ventilation. On my roadcar I modified a distributor to give the cam signal.

I use the same main cap 'girdle' plate, and also have used a normal sump gasket below it. But I've been thinking of filing a small chamfer in the outside edge of the sump flange, below the starter, to be able to use a wedge tool to spread the sump away from the block, and to then be able to use RTV instead of the gasket. I found that Toyota has these tools, and got one. It's basically a wedge of steel with a handle set into it at 90 degrees to the wedge, and you can tap the wedge in using a hammer. I've not tried this yet but will look at it the next time I have the motor apart. I think there is plenty of flange width to do this for perhaps a 3-4mm deep chamfer.

I ran into a 164.3.0v6 12v of which one piston had been replaced and it had a different oil ring (the 3-part one) and the others only had the 2-part one. and when I put a 2-part oil ring in place of the 3-part one, the ring was able to move vertically too much and the machine smoked.

I never knew you could do this to a nord oil pump. Great. Would you also plug a relief hole if you would use a short gears pump? Would you do that on a street engine also?

I did not know either until i tested these pumps and decided to rectify the "faults"I shaw. I used the short gear pump, and the engine is now in a street car. Although the stock oil pumps are fine and I had never any trouble with them I will do this mods on every next engine build.

Interesting how the oil pump draws air in from the relief valve, do u think the factory oil pump does this from standard 🤔 😳

could be, the canal is blocked by the side of the piston ( relief valve ) so never a perfect seal. If the valve leaks a bit like mine did this will make it harder to suck air past it.

Very cool! I have the same modifications on my oil pump but I never tested them. I'm also using the sphere instead of a piston valve. The new engine I want to build is a 155TS converted to Giulia and I'll use a 105 oil pump. I'm not sure wether I should buy a new long gear pump or use a original old short pump. Any opinions on this?

Great idea to use a sphere, but then you definitely have to block the channel between the valve and the suction side. The OEM part is no longer available, I have tested a (cheap) imitation pump and it performed worse then a used stock pump. I assume the pumps in the 800 euro price range will be good. I used the best short gear (used ) oil pump I had and the oil pressure is very high.

Working on my used oil pump last night. The set you did to test it is genius. How much flow is needed to test the flow? Is that diesel in the bucket?

The "big"pump did 17l/min and the best normal pump did 16 l/min i will give u the rpm of the drill later could not find it right now. i used light hydraulic oil Mobil Univis HVI 13.

I did some more testing: A good old stock pump does at 850 RPM 15.5 L @ 1 bar and 13.5 @ 3 bar At 1540 RPM 21.5L @ 2 bar and 20L @ 4 bar. A new imitation pump did at 850 RPM 14.5L @ 1 bar and 11.5L at 3 bar. At 1540 RPM 20.2 L @ 2 bar and 18 L @ 4 bar. This is the pump RPM engine RPM is double that of course.
