I have a 2007 GT 2.0 JTS selespeed. All my plastics were so sticky. I used Nutrogena make up wipes to remove it. Just don’t go too hard or it’ll remove the paint. But they’re such a nice car. Mine has tan interior. Love your videos by the way 👌

Thanks Ian, I appreciate you commenting, and for watching the video :) How are you finding the JTS engine? Love the Alfa GT, so pretty, but I kinda wish I bought the Busso V6 😁

That cloth tape stuff on the wiring is definitely original, a lot of Fiats and Alfa's have that so nothing to worry about 👍 That engine bay is looking like brand new, just gors to show what can be done with a little effort. That ECU looks like it might have some holes in it for screws? so you could maybe make a plastic or metal shield maybe and bolt it over it. That carpet stuff Fiat an Alfa use is okay in theory, but if it gets soaked for too long its only fit for the bin.

What a great looking car. This soft touch paint was all the rage back then. Pretty much all VAG Group cars from the mk4 Golf era had that stuff as well. A nice DIY way to get rid of it, is by using oven cleaner. Spray it on, leave it for 5 minutes and then brush with a soft bristle brush and give it a final wipe with some APC. Lighter fluid works as well, but that is quite agressive. Keep up the great work :)

I'd be surprised if your filter cap is leaking. That washer seals under the plastic engine cover and if you don't use a funnel (perhaps one made from a soft drink bottle,) a bit invariably gets past that seal and onto the cam cover. If enough gets past it will end up in the spark plug wells!

Gummy window switch gear and door handles .......... clean with small amounts of nail varnish remover on cotton wool. Used it on my GT works a treat and cheap.

Thanks for sharing Chris! Did you have any trouble with the black paint underneath? Did you have to dilute the varnish remover or was it fine?

I think the tubular shaped part behind the oil cap is the vvt solenoid. If you get a wiring diagram online the wire colours will id it. Cleaned my focus one with parts cleaner and bent the base back into shape plus fitted a new “O” ring to stop a leak. I should have used a 9v battery to cycle it while spraying it but the engine is sludge free.

@@Horus_Works My first objective is to fix the interior, with that i already stuffed the ceiling i had to buy new roof canopies and painted the same color as the ceiling, in black. I fixed the airbag compartment that needed springs and a few other parts that I wanted to fix or improve, I still need to stuff the steering wheel and the gearshift bellows, I also want to get new carpets and fix the seats and I still need to put the cables that are broken. Outside the car I bought new taillights and changed the front shock absorbers, I have more things I want to do, like fixing the rims and painting the brake calipers red, lastly when I can I want to paint the car to make it like new again.

Hi Eric, those cables, as I know, but I m not sure for this Alfa, are wrapped like that but should be also covered by plastic pipes, they are similar to the ones used in house walls to bring the electricity. Nice engine cover, it's perfect! Really sexy car.
@Horus_Works
@Horus_Works Жыл бұрын
Ah thank you Giacomo, I appreciate you letting me know. I'll see if I can locate the plastic pipes...
@giacomopuglisi9590
@giacomopuglisi9590 Жыл бұрын
If you have a look just under the wrapped one the are two tiny cables with those plastic pipes that I told you, sorry Eric I saw them now, and they are open on one side. If you find one as those, with the diameter for the cable, you can install it trying to open with a screwdriver and put it on the cable, but it's hard and the plastic will remain open, otherwise if possible you should unscrew the cable from where it's attached and thread the pipe. So at the end of both sides of pipe just installed you can fix it with some cable ties and wrap all the pipe with some insulating tape. Hope you can solve this issue. Bye Eric

immedietly changw timing belt water pump and thermostat assembly, these engines along with the twin spark tend to overheat like crazy. Also the thing leaking oil next to the oil cap iss the vvt solenoid these also tend to go bad

As a long time Alfa owner I can tell you they are always in odd places, each with their own risks: on my 156 GTA (and other V6 156s) the main ECU is actually bolted to the side of the rocker cover on the rear engine bank - where vibration/heat are the main threats (and a replacement ECU costs +$3k...). In the Alfa 166, the ECU is under the dash inside the car but directly beneath the heater matrix, and they are known to fry if the heater leaks. Again big bucks to replace. So all in all, that location looks relatively sensible. But I wouldn't go spraying any water inside the engine bay, unless you bag up the electrical components (eg, battery, engine-bay fuse boxes, alternator, ECU, coil packs). Nah scratch that, I wouldn't go spraying water anywhere under the bonnet. Full Stop.

@John Phaceas thanks for the detailed response - I'm honored to have an Alfa fan here watching my videos. I'm very glad indeed that I did not degrease the engine and get the bay wet... Your comments about the ecu locations are interesting. It's almost as if Alfa designed the engines first, and slapped the cars together around them. Wonderful engines, (and I hear that Alfa are renowned for them) but the rest of the car is 'interesting'. If you look carefully in my video, you will see a notch in the front fender where any water that drains during rain will allow that water to fall directly onto the ecu (and it's flimsy paper cover). I'm going to take care of that 😉
@johnphaceas7434
@johnphaceas7434 Жыл бұрын
@@Horus_Works Definitely a good idea to sort out where the water drains over the ECU - its the sort of hidden improvement that is really worthwhile. Also, assuming you're not a perfectionist, the saggy interior vinyl is a relatively easy fix (they sag/peel on most noughties Alfas). Just peel off the saggy vinyl and rub/scrape away all the loose foam. Spray contact adhesive on both surfaces and leave for a couple of minutes til they are tacky then carefully stick the vinyl back onto the door card. It won't be as plush as original (you'd need to replace the foam too for that), but the pattern lines in the interior panel help locate the viny properly and once set, it should look perfectly fine for another 10 years.
