LOL That subfame is staring at you laughing, like a turd propped up against your front door. Great videos. I like my Alfa too but it just developed an oil leak around the sump plug. I think I may have cracked the sump because I lowered the suspension. I don't know.
@_RicksGarage3 жыл бұрын
Easiest way to tell is by having someone gently Rev the engine to build up oil pressure whilst you inspect it underneath. Any cracks should be obvious although I suspect it may just be the plug O ring? Good luck

@@_RicksGarage Yes I replaced the washer with an $18 factory one from an Alfa stealer in Sydney, Australia and it's still leaking. I'm going to get under it tomorrow and take good look to see where it's leaking oil from. I'm hoping some ptfe tape on the thread may fix it. All this and I just spent $800 on new headlights. That's about 20% of the cars' resale value right there. I'm really chopping of my own arm here but I like the car.

I like what you did to the subframe. That should help with the salt on the roads.

Hi Rick, Great content. I'd love to see the 916 finished soon. Just for your information: The front subframe has to be aligned as per the workshop manual. I don't know, if you did it. Find some more information here: www.alfaowner.com/threads/front-subframe-adjustment.1192124/#post-17592310 Bye

Hi Rick, Just a simple question. Are the bolts new? Zinc plated or Stainless steel? Can you post the link where you have find them?
@_RicksGarage3 жыл бұрын
Hi The bolts are original. They where soaked in vinegar for 1 week to remove the rust then I had them Bright zinc plated.

I wouldn't bother with the power flex crap, unless you like a harsher ride and squeaks. There is a reason the factory bushes are made from vulcanized rubber, which costs more to produce than the machined powerflex plastic rubbish. The factory rubber bushes are good for 10 years and ride quality.
@_RicksGarage3 жыл бұрын
For a daily driver I’d agree with you. For a summer/weekend car then harshness isn’t an issue for me personally. They are also far most cost effective and should outlive the car in theory. OEM bushes just aren’t practical to be changing every 10 years at a cost of over £1000 for a full set. Each to the their own I suppose eh. Squeaky Polly bushes are avoidable when you know how to install them correctly with the help of PTFE to prevent it permanently. Most people don’t even know about it and just chuck them in the car with the provided grease. Eventually they will dry out and squeak their tits off.
@dasdasdsdasdasdasd3633 жыл бұрын
@@_RicksGarage Well sure, if you like them use them, nothing wrong with that if you don't mind pulling them out and adding more grease them every few years. As for the factory swaybar bushes costing more, I'm not real sure about that. There is another brand called super pro who actually put some R&D into their poly bushes which are a better product than powerflex. If you like poly bushes than it may be worth your time to research them. Me, I still have the 15 year old factory vulcanized rubber swaybar bushes on and they are still quiet. Soon they will need replacing though as nothing lasts forever.

Hi Rick. Do you have to remove the front subframe to remove the gearbox? Reading the manual of the 156 selespeed it indicates you do. Did you remove it when you removed the gearbox?
@_RicksGarage3 жыл бұрын
Yes I removed the subframe. I believe it is possible to pull the gearbox off with the subframe in place but I imagine it would be a struggle and make a lot of things very inaccessible. You would be able to pull the gearbox off but not out. You would have to rest it on the subframe. Then you have the problem of not being able to use a Jack or being able to man-handle the gearbox properly to mount it again

Hi Rick you please tell me which is the best hydraulic power steering fluid for the Alfa 156. 2.0 twin t spak pls
Hi rick. Hi just removed the gearbox and had to remove subframe to do it. But when I went to put the subframe back I can’t get the subframe to reach the top of the hole we’re the 2 long bolt on to the frame and found it’s hitting the hubs on my driveshaft. What have I done wrong. And I haven’t even put the wishbone on yet and the back part were the 4 bolts on each side go I can’t get it to reach the holes.
@_RicksGarage3 жыл бұрын
Have you tucked the back of the subframe underneath the 'tunnel' for the catalytic converters? The part where 4 bolts go through
@alfaman41133 жыл бұрын
Rick’s Garage thanks for the reply Rick. Alls good once I attached the rear gearbox/ differential/ engine mount that bolts on to the subframe it lifted the engine up more and everything is sitting correctly. Because the engine was still sagging, the driveshaft cv joints were rubbing on the wishbone were it is mounted on to the subframe. Once I attached the rear engine mount and bolted it to the subframe, the engine cleared the area were it was rubbing and sitting correct. I really appreciate your help buddy. And hope England can bring the cup back home tomorrow morning Australia time.
