No-one does mainstream quirky better than Alfa Romeo, and the Alfa Spider reflects this. Hollywood celebrated it, too.
Now though, motoring presenter Paul Woodford celebrates Alfa's longest running models, starting at the beginning through to this Series 4 car.
This is a classic car with a big soul. Can it live up to a comparison with one of MG's most debated models though? Take a fresh look at the Alfa Spider with Paul and the Classics Driven team.

I've had a series 4 spider for 20 years it has 98,000 mi never had any problems with it it's an absolutely wonderful car

I think in The Graduate, Dustin Hoffman ran out of fuel because when he stopped to make a phone call to find out where the wedding was happening, the attendant never filled the tank. As he runs out of fuel he taps the gauge in vain as it ACCURATELY shows no fuel.

Hi! Is it comfortable in the cabin with a height of 185 cm? Do your feet rest on the steering wheel? Does the head touch the roof?

Better off having a left hand drive version as Paul is right, the RHD conversion is not great. For example the passenger side compartment is narrower so, when converted from left to right hand drive, the driver is in the narrower side and the pedals are therefore more awkward. The steering also loses some of its precision, the heater controls are on the wrong side of the gear lever for the driver etc.

The name "duetto" is better translated as " for two", but is not the official name that instead is "Giulia Spider" because of its low frame, in italian "pianale" from "piano" flat of the equal four doors car. In english it's worth while "ragno". Maybe an english car arrived in Italy at the begining of the 19th century and its name was probably "speeder", and was writed in italian way "spider". Next an italian pronunced it in english way "spaider". A great misunderstanding. But in the first quorter of 19th century, after italian, the second language studied at school was ever french. This car was the last version . With the next pianale of "Alfetta" transaxel pianale, it was never built again.

@@CarFilms it’s my mistake. I remembered this name because I went there some years ago. But that place is Bucklers Hard near Beaulieu and not Butlers Hard… And all this doesn’t matter at all. The car that you have showcased is super gorgeous…..that’s what really matters!

Jake, 10 months ago and you're just now getting around to a reply? Fact is, Jensen's are indeed positive ground, Lucas electronics pieces of junk. And they were right from the start. Driving the Alfa Spider you come off as a consummate Limey twit. ps: and do something about those dated sideburns and lisp. Twish.

@@GereDJ2 Actually, I'm American not that its any of your business and my daily driver is a Studebaker. It's just that I grew up around things like MGs, Triumphs, and Austin-Healeys and I think they're decent cars. I never said anything about Lucas electrics, didn't I, nor did I insult you, so why the aggression?

The only cars with wiring problems are these junk RHD drive conversions like in the video. It’s a 1991 the 1990 models were still S3’s.

Did you really defend rubber bumpered MGB's? The ones that walk tall and look like freight trains? Post 1974 MGBs with the menacing frown? And you're British? I'm an old man from the US. I had to call my 30 year old hipster friends to console me. We feel that you need to reflect on your decision, possibly to save your soul - LOL. Also, the spider with the plastic skirting reminds me of an old woman with a bad face lift :/ Across the pond we call it "spaztic plastic." Cheers, and thanks for your well executed video: nicely shot, well edited, and rehearsed narration that feels natural, in the spirit of old Top Gear, before Clarkson punched his producer. I remain on his side ;)
