It's late fall, and I'm out searching for Tamarack trees in Algonquin Park. They are deciduous conifers, which means they are cone-bearing trees that change to a brilliant, golden colour and then lose their needles in the fall. Tamarack colours are at their peak late October and often into early November. Tamarack trees are also know as Larch trees.
I start my search by paddling at Mew Lake in the morning mist, then I hike the Spruce Bog Boardwalk trail, and finally I do a little more paddling at Lake of Two Rivers and Pog Lake.
