I mean this is a pivotal turning point in music, this was a thrash metal tour. It's pretty ironic that Alice in Chains played on it considering how music changed very shortly after. I wouldn't say the audience is lame they were a relatively unknown opening band.

As mentioned above - this is a straight soundboard mix. Jerry's guitars were likely so loud on stage that they didn't need to be in the PA very much. If you were in the audience, you probably got plenty of guitar - it's just an artifact of the way this was recorded that it's so low. (Bass does sound great, though.)

I was at the Dallas show of this tour and was blown away. Bought the album (which came with a t-shirt and a VHS tape) on my way out. Been hooked ever since. Also, Layne kicked me in the face years later at a Queensryche show. A guy behind me kept flipping Layne off during their set. About 15 minutes into their set, Layne jumped off the stage and attacked the guy. I got a combat boot to the face in the process. Good memories.

I would have to say Pearl jam was the 90's Led Zeppelin. They became a bit more popular than AIC. Love both in thier own sense but AIC kicked some serious ass and got the motor running! AIC I would think is more like the Sabbath of the 90's only because they had the dark side to them. Zep was love like Pearl jam both had a soft side to them.

Dear everyone who is about to comment about the lack of guitar in the mix: READ THIS FIRST. This audio is coming straight off of the board. It is the audio which is coming through the front-of-house main PA speakers. As most people who have stage experience will know, rock and metal stages are loud. The sound heard by the crowd is stage noise + PA noise. A lot of times with local bands with basic gear, the drums will be very loud, while the vocals will be the quietest. In this video, however, Jerry Cantrell is using a 100W Marshall Amp, which literally drowns out everything and everyone else. If you stood on stage and turned off all the stage monitors, you would basically hear nothing but guitar. Since the guitar is so loud, if not for the PA system, this would be Jerry Cantrell ft. A Group of Mimes. In order to compensate for this, the vocals, drums, and bass are cranked by the man working the soundboard. The stage carries the guitar while the PA system carries the rest of the band. Since we only have the audio going through the PA system, we get very little guitar, but if the sound guy had mixed it so it sounded good in this video then the result would have been a very crappy mix for the people in attendance.

You are absolutely right man. To be totally honest if they were going to release this video? They should have went in and screwed around with the sounds and done some kind of remastering or something with it. I'm a guitar player so we know what it sounds like to drown everybody else out... We can't help it. To our own ears we sound better extremely loud.

Gotta put some guitar in those giant P.A. speakers and mix it like a pro. Turn the stage bass down if there's a problem. Make it rock. Those Marshalls could be dummies. Easier to tour with. Just one real one. Use your gear. There could be people in the back saying. "What that fuck is this"? You're micing up for the first 3 rows of people.

Fuck that shit. Spit on me and ima cut some lips off a face. That's the fkshit you pull when you know an ass whoopin is exactly what you're lookin for. And AIC, as well as Soundgarden, were almost too heavy, in my opinion, to even be considered grunge but they were from Seattle and most bands had similarities in the sound so they were thrown in the mix. And Slayer is no doubt one of the heaviest of metal,, hell yea... but Layne was a god. AIC. Who's better?

I heard him talk once in an interview about blisters and calluses & He used B12 on them & it helped... U have 2 realize a good drummer... going at IT for 1 & half hours... plus sometimes more Thy work harder then ANY member of a band. Also WATCH Dave Bbruzzese of Pearl Jam (91-mid 94') Ck out the official ' Even Flow' video. THY ARE THE ONLY 2 DRUMMERS IN THE WORLD.... Rock God's (not Interested in any Slayer or other drummer) it's done... wrapped up & voting is CLOSED.... Can't Wait 2 See them this summer in Nashville w' KORN opening... 😎😉🤗 I WILL FEEL 20 AGAIN.... 😎😍😉 🤗🤗🤗 Isabella

I saw the tour show in Lakeland Florida. The crowd was given them a lot of s*** they weren't there for them. The truth is AIC was way better than Anthrax and Slayer even to me as a fourteen-year-old I can see how much better they were as a band. They weren't better Megadeth though Megadeth put on incredible show that night. Truly something I will never forget.

Wow I was at the show when I was 15 I got to hang out with Lane afterwards by song 3 Alice in Chains gets booed off stage me and my cousin go to the back of the venue after the show where the buses are parked and Lane comes up to us and asks us for real bathroom and we pointed the bathroom right over around the corner with the line of people, I guess he want a little more privacy so he took off on his longboard to the middle of the parking lot in Arco Arena and hung out in a planter box and me and my cousin went out there afterwards waiting for Aunt to pick us up and we see Lane and we hang out with him and he tells us how Dave Mustaine call them up and ask them to open up the Clash of the Titans and he couldn't say no to Dave so there he was stuck on tour throwing his mic down on song 3 every night ! no one had heard of these guys at the time....

This is such a good lesson to pass on to your kids about why you should never trust a crowd unfamiliar with your work / art / story to tell you whether you should give up or not. These guys listened to enough music to know this was part of the growing pains and the process. This is the part where most give up. They knew they had all the ingredients to be stars. The lesson isn’t just for musicians, it can be applied to almost anything....except boxing or MMA 🥊 😂 It takes about 3 touch points with someone for them to give you a fair shot, known in the scientific world as the “exposure effect”. It’s human nature to hate the unknown. It’s built in our DNA to always scan for threats first and anything outside of our “tribe” could’ve meant death in those days ie. a wild animal, someone from another tribe, unfamiliar sounds 💀. If you actually do suck, wait until you have at least have a sample size first lol It’s not like AIC sucked at this point and then just improved either. The “opening band” label starts them as low-value too, so people only hear what their bias expects. Weird how similar this principle works with advertising / cold calling too. Added this to the archives 👌🏽 thank you for posting! A rare gem 💎
