When this show happened, Alice In Chains hadn't performed live in several years. The band put this show together as a benefit concert for the catastrophic Indonesia tsunami that occurred about two months prior, inviting several different vocalists to sing. Maynard was one of them and the show took place in Seattle. It started to set the wheels in motion for Alice to come back together, to play and to write new music.

Maynard has so much range, flexibility and power. One of the greatest rock/metal vocalists.

Really good. Love how he still sounds like himself and isn't doing an impression of Layne.

Maynard and Layne were good friends in the early 90s, since Alice in Chains and early Tool had a similar style they seem to fit together. There's video of Layne Staley singing Opiate with Tool in 1993, it's worth a listen.

Just imagine what if James Keenan had stayed in Alice in Chains. Just imagine what the new albums would sound like. Man, just imagine, just imagine.

Not to overlook the vocals, but holy crap that guitar sounds sick

Oh right! I remember Maynard being an Alice fan. Back in Rock-am-Ring in 06 Alice in Chains were doing their comeback tour. Maynard later pointed out, when Tool were playing, that he went to see AiC. "That just made my fuckin' week."

I'm sure Maynard felt honored to fill in & I'm also certain Layne would be honored by the tribute. Certainly a beautiful thing my brothers and sisters.

I have a hard time imagining anyone not being able to recognize Maynard's voice, seriously. It's not just the sound of it but also what he does with it. It's pretty distinctive.

Damn Maynard killed man in the box! It gave me chills even at this shit quality, only person I’ve ever heard to come anywhere close to Layne.... props to Maynard. An as always Jerry’s tone is just godlike, that crunch in the main riff is just nasty 🤘

Maynard is in Tool, Perfect Circle, and Puscifer, and is simply doing a tribute. He was never in Alice in Chains for those that don't know. He is amazing in his own right, but no one can replace Layne. RIP

many will probably disagree with me: Tool and Alice in Chains are differente but the same. Strong bass, powerfull hooks, base rythm. And best bands live. I hate when people compare Tool with Dream Theater or progressive metal. Tool is metal grunge with pin floyd and king crimson influence, just that. Tool and Alice in Chains are the hardest badass live ever.

Saw William Duvall do it at Rock On The Range and he was wicked. Maybe he isn't Layne but the guy is still a top notch vocalist and Alice In Chains still are throwing out their signature sound better than any other reunited band who has tried to release new material.

I was there for that show at the Premier Nightclub in Seattle and I got the ticket stubs and poster to prove it. But seriously, it was AMAZING. The whole show. A lifelong fan of AIC and Tool among others on the bill that night, it was a gift to have gotten tickets for that show because if I recall it sold out in 10 - 20 minutes. I took off work to stay home and secure our tickets. Maynard was an unlisted guest appearance and we were all blown away when he came out to perform two of the best AIC songs. He gave it all and so did the band. They killed and I am convinced that the energy in that room that night, from everybody; the contributing artists and fans, was so great that it definitely lit the fire again to get serious about starting the band back up. Up until then they had talked about it but wouldn't commit to it for understandable reasons. This recording is outstanding and I hate it's been here for 14 years and I had no idea. Thanks for bringing this moment back to me!

adam jones said that maynard has a unique talent of singing/imitating other singers. like he could nail covers and it's one of the ways they noticed he had the chops to sing. kinda interesting how he uses an obvious vibrato to produce a tone that has a Staley feel. Staley didn't sing with that much vibrato.. MJK just knows he can't sing the tone without the vibrato. He's a PRO.

Amazing show to say the least, it sold out in 10 minutes and I was fortunate enough to get 2 tickets. was right in front of the stage for this. The floor was crazy.

When I first heard this, my thoughts were actually, that with that kind of tightness in the band, so many years after, why not do more? Thankfully they appeared to have felt the same :) Layne was Layne. Duvall is not trying to be Layne. AiC still wants to make music with Duvall. It's not like the rest of AiC never developed since their time with Layne. They're not the same guys today. Why not just enjoy ?

I love it when my to most favorite bands do things with each other. AIC and TOOL are so amazing... now if soundgarden got slipped in there the world would be complete. Although I don't think they are allowed to do this, because the world would explode from sheer godlike performance.
