I had quite an experience the first time I saw this. 1979. my head was in the clouds. I was super into Sci-Fi and Marvel comics. However I had very strict religious parents that wouldn't have dreamed of letting me se a film like this. Fortunately my best friend's Mom took me, him and his sister I had a crush for, to see the movie one Saturday afternoon. I had never seen an R-Rated film before nor any real Horror. The dread started in me the moment I saw the derelict spaceship. Then came the chestburster scene. I will never forget it. People all over the theater screamed, retched, threw up, ran out. And Valerie ended up in my lap. See I had a crush on her and had never been in close physical contact with a girl before. So I had all these feelings....right in the middle of an unimaginable horror show. She put her arms around my neck and cried into my shirt collar for pretty much the rest of the film. With her Mom sitting four chairs away I was real careful where I put my hands. As the film continues it got worse and worse, until Lambert and Parker's death, which twisted my stomach into knots. When Ripley finally got into the Narcissus and the infamous underwear scene started Val whispered right in my ear "Mine's better" I about died. That juxtaposition of being simultaneously aroused and horrified was devastating. I'll never forget it.

It was "raining" in the huge landing leg compartment where Brett was killed. The simplest explanation is that the compartment was gigantic, with a very high ceiling. Water vapor in the air cooled and condensed into liquid water, which fell like rain onto the deck.

The part where they yeeted Kane into space was essentially a burial at sea. Also the part where they landed, the landing gear was on some boulders which caused a shift in gravity and sent a shockwave through the ship. They had turned off the inertial dampeners so they had no shock absorption.

There are some people in the world of the arts who peak at the beginning of their career. Ridley Scott is one of them, he directed this film and Blade Runner at a young age, these are two of the greatest films ever made nevermind sci-fi. The work ever since has been a mix of ok and bad and yes I include Gladiator in that bunch.

"It's got a great defense mechanism... you don't dare kill it..." Classic sci-fi horror. The tension is so thick, you will need a sharp steak knife in order to cut it. The voice of "Mother" is so iconic, in my honest opinion. There's something unnerving about a cold feminine voice counting down to your death. It wasn't until GLaDOS that we rediscovered that a computerized female voice can be absolutely creepy. Fun Fact: In H.R. Giger's original illustrations that inspired the look of the Alien, the creature had eyes. For the movie, Giger insisted that the creature have no eyes, thus giving the bleak appearance of a cold and emotionless beast that hunts by smell. Real Guts Fact: The dead facehugger that Ash (Ian Holm) autopsies was made using fresh shellfish, four oysters, and a sheep kidney to re-create the internal organs. Filming had to be done quickly because the organic material would go bad very fast under the studio lights. Bloody Solution Fact: It was conceptual artist Ron Cobb who came up with the idea that the Alien should bleed acid. This came about when Dan O'Bannon ran into a wall with the screenplay on how to handle the last half of the movie. He needed a good reason for why the crew members don't just shoot the thing and kill it but still not make it an indestructible monster that can't be killed. The acid blood was the idea that solved this problem.

The book explained 1) They were futuristic "truckers", so everything was utilitarian except for the crew spaces. 2) Earth had used up all fossil fuel, but there was an important derivative of crude oil that couldn't be synthesized so oil needed to be transported to Earth from another planet where it had been discovered. 3) Bringing the alien back to Earth was supposed to be a smuggling operation that the oil delivery would have shielded from government scrutiny. Someone else (stogie2112) already explained the reason for the "rain". FYI: "Acid" wasn't that common even during the 60s. It would have been pot/weed, with a very few using coke, which was usually saved for parties, dates or nights out at a disco.

hello peepers I thought I would mention, the chest bursting scene with ''Kane'' played by British actor john hurt, ridley scott kept this a secret from the rest of the cast, the ''reaction'' you witnessed was all real the look of horror and confusion was the reaction he wanted, the film was made in the uk, as was the squeal, the sets were full size, ( they had to, they was no CGI special effects good enough in 1979 plus miniature models etc) so they built , long corridors, rest areas, the cockpit, all built at the world famous shepperton studios england, as was all the star wars franchise squeals, indiana jones, superman, with the late (christopher reeves) batman, Tom cruise's mission impossible's and a whole lot more hollywood action blockbuster hits, made in the uk . The follow on squeal ''Aliens'' was directed by James Cameron 1986 not steven spielberg

Alien is my favorite scifi/horror movie. Aliens is my equal favorite scifi/action movie - equal with Terminator 2. It simply depends on my mood at the time. I mention this because both Alien and Terminator franchises are some of the most loved of my generation, with some of the best heroes ever. However, both franchises have fans that will give very strong opinions on which movies you should or should not watch. I suggest you watch them all to form your own opinions. For this franchise, I personally prefer the 'extended' editions because I enjoy immersion into a deeper story - but others prefer the Theatrical edition because they don't slow down the core plot. Also, most reactors seem to get scared away from watching Alien 3 & 4 because of the many negative comments (somewhat deserved). However, watching them might be a point of difference for your channel since there are not many Alien 3 & 4 reactions out there. Alien vs Predator is a spinoff/cross-over series so you should 100% watch Predator first.
@KennyandLindsayWatch
@KennyandLindsayWatch 4 ай бұрын
Yeah we also tend to prefer extended editions as we are lore nerds. Thank you for the comment! What about the Prometheus movies? I think I heard they were in the same universe, not sure how they relate to the Alien movies though.
@AndrewWhite-ey2ep
@AndrewWhite-ey2ep 4 ай бұрын
@@KennyandLindsayWatch Prometheus and Covenant are a 2-part prequel series to the 4-part main series with Ellen Ripley. They try to explain the origin story of the alien species, but are perhaps best viewed after the main series because the 'traditional' xenomorph has a smaller role. AvP confuses the issue because it also tries to stay true to the Predator universe, but I don't want to give any spoilers if you haven't seen Predator. My personal suggestions would be either 1. Release order of everything mentioned if you simply want to discover these universe(s) as we did, OR 2. Alien 1-4 then Prometheus then Covenant. That will cover the "official" Alien universe, then you can launch into AvP (after watching Predator any time you want)

You have to see Aliens now. Its the Citizen Kane of the sci-fi / action / horror genre. But you have to see the Special Edition. The chest-burster in Aliens is far less awkward and silly. Theres no way you can call it "Cute." Sigourney Weaver and James Cameron turned Ripley into one of the greatest, strongest, most iconic female roles in film history. Its a real shame that Sigourney didnt win Best Actress for Aliens. She was nominated which is very rare for the sci-fi genre. Her Ellen Ripley is right up there with Sarah Connor in Camerons own Terminator 2: Judgment Day and Scarlett O'Hara in Gone With The Wind. There are no more movies worth watching in Ripleys saga after Aliens. If you want to see some crazy yet beautiful science-fiction set in this universe, you can watch Prometheus.

Alien, Aliens, Alien 3, Alien Resurrection - Prometheus and then Covenant. 1-4 Connected but every movie is different, Prometheus and Covenant is a 2 parter so far. I like 3 and 4 but a lot of people don't, I don't really count 4 as a true part of the story though, more of a popcorn flick dream of that universe. I do think 3 is underrated, don't have to watch special edition for aliens but it wouldn't hurt but I would get the special/extended version for 3. Things like AVP are alt/dreams as well and deff are not connected.

Glad you enjoyed this film 👍, I found it terrifying when I first watched it back in the day tbh. I particularly liked the scene where Brett was walking through the ship and the sound of the water falling on his hat made me feel like I was there and seeing things through Bretts eyes, I found it the most immersive scene of any film I watched. I'm glad you didn't watch the directors cut as although it fills the hole where Parker describes the Alien taking Brett, it also ruins the film by introducing certain (original) ideas that spoil Aliens. (Although I have heard a reasonable explanation for the idea.) I used to live next door to a carpenter who worked at the studio that worked on Alien and he showed me photographs of the Nostromo set during construction and I can say it is amazing at what they achieved. I recommend you watch Predator 1 & 2 before you watch the AVP movies, you'll feel better for it in the long run. While the films after Aliens are not as good as the first two they can still be watched, personally I enjoy Alien Resurrection a lot. Aliens is Sigourney's favourite film as it gives more detail into Ripleys background. Aliens Special\extended edition is worth watching (IMO) It is the film I would have liked to have seen at the cinema.

@@KennyandLindsayWatch Don’t forget to watch the extended version of “Aliens” as the OP suggested. I, personally, would skip watching “Alien 3”. I absolutely HATED what they did at the beginning of that one. It certainly is up to you though. Btw - James Cameron directed “Aliens” and he doesn’t like “Alien 3” either. The original “Predator” is a good bet after that. At some point I think you should review the film which served as the outer space, science fiction grandaddy of all modern space movies: “2001: A Space Odyssey”. That film came out in 1968 and was directed by Stanley Kubrick. It’s a masterpiece.

Two naive viewers are boarding the "Nostromo." What will they make of this "old, long, character-centered, no-DFX" movie? I saw "Alien" in the same ex-Cinerama theater that had shown "2001: A Space Odyssey" (1968) and "Star Wars" (1977). The TV and newspaper ads only said: "In space, no one can hear you scream." What kind of movie was this? It looked "Star Wars-y," but we were about to take a roller coaster to Hell. The Company is sending the equivalent of a freighter crew to "do science" on an unexplored planet! 11:11 The Space Jockey, a mystery for decades. 13:27 Kane = Zapp Brannigan. 14:35 How's that for a jump scare? 15:00 This conversation has become iconic due to recent events. 16:06 The Face Hugger, grossing out audiences for decades. 17:34 Acid Blood solved the "why don't they cut it off him?" question. 21:39 A Props dept. work of ART, made of sea animals. 23:58 Kane's last meal. 25:24 The Xenomorph, scaring audiences for over 40 years. 26:21 Burial at sea spares next-of-kin the gruesome details. 28:32 Along came Jones. 31:20 Say hello to Bolaji Badejo. 35:06 You're in command, Third Officer Ripley. 37:06 This was my "WTF? Ash iSN'T Human!?" moment. 38:51 Most didn't see this coming. 42:24 I've read that Lambert is standing in for us, the audience. 45:27 Escape route cut off, stop Destruct to gain time for plan B. 51:01 Tonight's entree on the shuttle "Narcissus" is Steamed Xenomorph in Shell. 51:52 Correction, Char-Broiled Xenomorph. This and the next movie made newcomer Sigourney Weaver a major movie star. Along with Linda Hamilton of "The Terminator" (1984), they became Action movie Badasses. "Jennifer Lawrence"? Who is that?

ALIEN is one of my all-time favorite movies, which is weird since I'm not at all a horror fan, though I am a sci-fi fan. I'd heard about the movie before it came out, featured in fan mags of the time and the weird Gigeresque art and the Ron Cobb conceptual design drew me in. There was no doubt I was going to see this even though I had to suffer through the suspense. I had to sit at the back of the theater near the lobby doors in case the intensity made me bolt. So, yeah, I understand having to watch a movie through your fingers (actually, I tend to cover my ears 'cause jump scares are loud)!😅 Apparently, an ALIEN tv series is being developed though I'm adopting a wait-and-see attitude toward it. I only like the first two movies of the ALIEN franchise but the rest leave lots to be desired. Even though I'm not a gamer, the ALIEN: ISOLATION game comes closest to capturing the feel of the original movie. Because of STAR WARS and ALIEN, I chose illustration as a career. Go figure.

H R Giger was the artist behind "the Alien" creature. It was inspired by nightmares that he would sketch out upon waking. Matthew 25:30 And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. AND YOU THINK THIS IS JUST A MOVIE ? Revelation 9:1 And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit. 2 And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit. 3 And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and unto them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power. 4 And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads. 5 And to them it was given that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months: and their torment was as the torment of a scorpion, when he striketh a man. REMEMBER THE SCENE WITH DALLAS SAYING "KILL ME"? 6 And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them. 7 And the shapes of the locusts were like unto horses prepared unto battle; and on their heads were as it were crowns like gold, and their faces were as the faces of men. 8 And they had hair as the hair of women, and their teeth were as the teeth of lions. 9 And they had breastplates, as it were breastplates of iron; and the sound of their wings was as the sound of chariots of many horses running to battle. 10 And they had tails like unto scorpions, and there were stings in their tails: and their power was to hurt men five months. 11 And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon.

I was a teenager in '79 when I saw this movie in '79. This is the most scary movie behind Exorcist '73. So I know everything about the series. Well ok u didnt see Ash as a robot.. The scene was shot with Lamber wearing Bretts boots , if u didnt notice. it took 3 hours filming to get it right. But then it was delated. Close but not butthole. This series has a lot of sexual undertones which u failed to pick up. Some do dome dont. I didnt.The cat was too small for the alien to reproduce in thats why it slapped it. Signory Weaver was originally cast to play Lambert and Veronica Cartwright to play Ripley. Like the day before filming Ridley Scott switched the roles. I wonder what would have happened if he didnt? If you want to watch the series you watch the prequel ""Prometheus" NEXT. then you watch the sequel ALIENS. I tell every youtuber this but no one listens. maybe u be the first. Prometheus tell u all about the Aliens. Be sure to get the fully deleted directors cut . its available on youtube u can play it at the end, but do that! It will answer all the questions your now asking. Aliens is very good. I think the rest are junk others will disagree. ok that its for now.
