As an old guy who saw this film in the theater when i first came out, it was best experienced in a dark movie theater. Because this film is mostly very dark & emotionally tense ...honestly it was the most "Immersive" experience I ever had watching a film. You almost felt as if you were IN the movie...& when the strobe lights in the later scenes began it was even more intense. The brilliance of it was the way they scare you just a few times, but so strongly that you are always anticipating scares even when they don't come. I think that is why the film is appreciated all these years later. It is unique.

It won the Oscar for Best Visual Effects, it made $200 million dollars against an $11 million dollar budget, it put Sigourney Weaver on the map, it spawned 3 Sequels, 2 spinoff films, 2 crossover films video games, comics, novels, toys, board games, novelizations, and an upcoming live action TV series, it's now considered to be one of the scariest motion pictures ever made.

Parker's death illustrated how powerful these things are. He was a big strong capable man and the Xenomorph pinned and held him against the wall like he was a bug.

there was another big action sequence that didn't get filmed that was in the script because they ran out time/money. when Parker goes to refuel dallas' flamethrower he finds the alien in the airlock and tries to blow it out into space... but Ash trips an alarm at the last second and scares the alien which leads to a big confrontation. they actually end up injuring the beast but its acid triggers a hull breach which nearly kills Parker and Ripley. this is the incident that leads ripley to use Mother to check on Ash. if you notice Ripley gets a nose bleed for no apparent reason - that was supposed to be an injury from the airlock sequence.

Out of all the films in the Alien series, this one, is the only one that still gives me nightmares to this day. Ridley Scott created a horror masterpiece because he never allowed us to see the monster for too long or in full detail, it was always in hiding, so it built the suspense, you never knew if it was behind you, next to you, above, beneath, around the corner ready to strike and the shadows and darkness of the ship increased the sensation of anxiety and panic. Also, H.R. Giger gave us one of the most iconic characters in movie history, you'd never seen anything like that before.

There's a deleted scene that showed what the alien was doing with the people it attacked. It wasn't killing them, it was keeping them alive. In the deleted scene, Ripley finds the captain and Bret, the engineer (first guy taken) encased in cocoons. The captain is barely conscious and begs Ripley to kill him. Bret is hardly recognizable as a person. He's being slowly transformed into a new egg. The idea was that the egg hatches a "face hugger", which attaches itself to a host, and impregnates them. A "chest burster" grows inside the person and rips its way out. Once it grows to full size, it grabs and cocoons other beings, so that they can be transformed into eggs, which will then attack other hosts. However, since the scene was cut, it isn't canon, and the sequel Aliens, went in a different direction with the alien's life cycle. Personally, I wish that scene had been left in because I think it makes the alien scarier if it's not just going to kill you, but rather transform you into an alien egg that will go on to kill others. As for the other movies; Aliens - Good movie, although I never thought it made the best sequel. It has a very different feel to it. Make sure to watch the extended version. Alien 3 - Depressing movie. It's probably the least liked movie in the franchise. Alien Resurrection - I liked the first half of the movie and hated the second half. Prometheus - This is actually a prequel made by Ridley Scott, creator of the first movie. I HATED it. Besides the fact that it's full of really stupid characters doing really stupid things, it ruins a lot of the mystery surrounding the alien ship, and it feels cheap. Alien Covenant - Remember how I said Prometheus had really stupid people, doing really stupid things? The characters in this movie make the characters in Prometheus look like geniuses. These are some of the dumbest characters I've ever seen in a movie. Not only that, but Ridley Scott takes a big, steaming crap on the whole Alien mythology. The movie was such a disappointment with fans that it may have killed the franchise. At the very least, I highly doubt if they'll let Scott make any direct sequels to it.
@MJoy4Fun

sounds like a star wars story-line i remember something regarding the cocoons and that they were barely alive... maybe i watched more than once this movie i dont know.. but regarding of the movie.. i believe the classic version of the movie was ''full'' and not edited or extended version like now.. and to be fair.. i hate when they edit them just so it will fit the next movie.. or to make it more mysterious... Alien was terrifying movie Prometheus felt like a distant cousin without any implications... it shows some stuff.. how all started.. and why end it where.. but it leaves you with a dry feeling... there is no real suspense to this movie.. but can't wait for the sequel of the Alien
@lurkerrekrul
@lurkerrekrul Жыл бұрын
@@MJoy4Fun There's a "director's cut" of Alien that includes the cocoon scene (the scene is also on KZfaq), but I don't think it was really made by the director. The SciFi Channel also once showed a REALLY extended version that added a ton of deleted scenes back into the movie, but it wasn't good. They showed too much of the alien. Prometheus I didn't like because the characters kept doing dumb things, and I hated that the director took one of the weirdest parts of the first movie, the giant alien pilot skeleton, and turned it into a boring human-like alien that looked like it should have been on Star Trek. Also, there's no way anyone, even a robot, can learn to speak a different language just from reading it. You need someone to teach you how to pronounce the words. You'll like Aliens, it's a good action movie. I just didn't think it really fit well with the first film. The extended version doesn't change the movie too much, it mostly just adds a few extra scenes, but it does add more information about Ripley.

Giger's other paintings and sculptures are just as awesome. If you love dark surrealism, he's definitely the artist for you. But his work is so not for everyone. I see the masterful techniques of shading, and shapes when I look at his works, not the horror and eroticism it often portrays, if that makes sense.

When I first saw this movie in the theater, I’d recently watched a documentary on Tarantula Wasps. They capture a tarantula, stuff it into a hole the wasp had dug, and insert an egg/eggs into the spider’s body. They bury the tarantula alive, the babies hatch and devour the spider. So when the face hugger first appears, I whispered to my friend, “Oh my God. It’s like a tarantula wasp! It’s laying an egg inside him!”

4:11 It's neither a telescope or a weapon, it's some sort of communications apparatus, a transceiver of some unknown design. Oh, lady, you have a very cute accent. 16:57 The one hanging was Lambert. Notice her legs are bare? Suggestive, isn't it? It didn't just kill her, did it? But then again, an earlier version of the script had her hiding in a locker and just dying of fright. She won't fight, not even to save another, and her only thought in the face of a fearful situation is to run and hide. But the mere sight of the Alien terrified her so much that she just couldn't move no matter how much she wanted to. Lambert had always been a fraidy cat, and in the end it doomed her.

As Ash and Dallas explained: this space truckers had to investigate signals of unknown origin or else they wouldn't get paid. The "secret mission" of Ash was to bring an alien life form back to earth, if they find one. I highly recommend you go on with the second part, you will see much more of the creature there. It's called "AlienS" for a reason 😉And you'll see Ripley going to full bad ass mode 😁

A main reason this movie is as scary today as it was in the '70s is because the xenomorph (alien) is unfamiliar. It's not like going to see a vampire or zombie movie where no matter the story, people already know how it can be killed even if they've never watched a vampire or zombie movie before. But with Alien, the audience was as clueless about what to do as the crew so you're on the edge of your seat the whole time. It's one of the few instances where a 40+ old movie has as much impact on a new audience as it did when it premiered.

A haunted house in outer space basically. One of the greatest sci-fi horror films ever. A game changer - loosely inspired by the 50s sci-fi film IT! TERROR FROM BEYOND SPACE. Ridley Scott and Sigourney Weaver became iconic for this film - she truly owns it (her character was originally male but the audition prompted them to make Ripley female; she's that awesome!) Ash ISN'T Human!?" moment. 15:03 Most viewers don't see this twist coming. 16:35 I've read that Lambert is standing in for us, the audience. 17:16 Escape route cut off, stop Destruct to gain time for Plan B. 19:33 Tonight's entree on the shuttle "Narcissus" is Steamed Xenomorph in Shell." 19:58 Correction, Char-Broiled Xenomorph. This and the next movie made Sigourney Weaver into a major star and Badass, along with Linda Hamilton of "The Terminator" (1984).

Best... Film.... Ever!!! Also no its not set in 2037. That was just a log number. This movie is set in 2122. And the second and third movies are set in 2179. The fourth movie is set roughly 200 years after that.

I was never 100% sure but I think the Alien was actually sleeping on her escape shuttle. And I think when it shows it’s little mouth come out slowly during that sequence that it’s yawning. But that is just my guess haha

We don’t know what the Alien was doing because it was….alien. Was it sleeping? Was it starting to turn into another form? Was it dying - maybe it only lives for a short time.

dallas and other humans were cocooned on the walls of the ship mutating into eggs if a woman was used the egg could turn into a queen ,but they can simulate into a queen depending on the situation.

The sequel ALIENS is one of the handful of movie sequels that is actually better than the original. The sequels after that do not compare to the first two. And PROMETHEUS which was made many years later is a prequel / origin story. It too is not as good but it does answer some of your questions

Tumi jumpscares are not what makes the film scary what makes a movie scary is the the thought of the idea of it. The reality of the situation. The alien was on screen for 4 minutes I've heard idk if that's true or not

I wouldn't get your hopes up in Prometheus answering your questions. That movie only has a passing resemblance to this movie. I would recommend you watch the second movie (Aliens) and then stop it there. It only goes downhill after that.
