It's always good to test an effect with the actor who will be wearing it. Sigourney was great about giving us access to her time, but when we wanted to tweak these Queen Chestburster rigs, we chose to test on the crew member with the most ladylike hair. Thank you, future Oscar winner Mark Coulier.
The spreading of the ribcage was accomplished with "air muscles". Lengths of high pressure water hose were folded in half then filled with compressed air, causing this "muscle" to unfold. The advantage was that the mechanism, unlike Mark's hair, could be very low relief, like Sigourney's shaved head.

What is particularly interesting is in the original script, the queen chestburster was supposed to burst just as Ripley stood at the edge of the platform. She then grabbed it and snapped its neck as she fell. Clearly they were trying to do the effects for that here (that's why they got the crew to practice grappling with the chestburster). They probably had issues making it look real at the time. A shame.

In the assembly cut, the prisoners bring in the dead ox and one of them picks up the royal face hugger but it's a quick glimpse you get of it. Thing that don't make sence in this film is that there was only one egg. the royal face hugger in the theatrical latches on to a dog and assembly cut is the ox, face huggers latch on one host then die so how did Ripley have the alien queen inside her and also on to either animal? Do royal huggers only lay one embryo or can It lay more?

+Tone hunter one both because a normal face hugger can rarely lay to eggs in the host so I think the queen can do the same thing.

+Tone hunter Royal facehuggers lay 1 normal chestbuster and 1 queen chestbuster, so the normal chestbuster evolves into an alien and protects the queen chestbuster until she grows into a Giant, egg-laying Queen, getted it

I don't want to watch this film again so can you please tell me, where was the egg? Could there have been more than one, one for Ripley, one for the dog, and one for the ox? Besides, how could an egg have got on the ship? Personally, I greatly dislike the idea of the alien's adult form being altered according to the form of the host. The alien was supposed to be the perfect organism. Clearly it can't be perfect if it can come in different forms since four legs is better than two from some perspectives and being able to walk upright is better from some perspectives. Above all, having opposable thumbs (or some way to equate to that such as swivelling finger joints) is essential to qualify as 'perfect'. This film just allowed the alien to be corrupted. Actually, why am I even bothering to comment about this. The whole film took a dump on Aliens, made it irrelevant. Seeing Alien3 made me wonder if a director (Fincher) should even be allowed to undercut another film like it did. Aliens was the work of over a thousand people for over two years and all of that effort and collaboration was destroyed before the opening credits of this film were over. I felt like walking out of the cinema.

As it was intended in the first place. It is the PERFECT ORGANISM purely because it was able to adapt (i.e. taking in the hosts DNA to survive the environment that the hos normally thrived in). If it had one form then clearly the movies would have lacked substance.Then again, they are capable of multiplying themselves in great ordeals. We're would the fun be in that? If the "perfect organism" was too perfect then do you seriously think people would still like to watch the same crap? Albeit with a different plot that is. However, that's just my opinion. And clearly that's yours.

So does this mean Xenomorph queens are BORN queens? Did the Hadley's Hope queen hatch out the first colonist and spawn all the others?

Not necessarily the first one, but one of them turned out to be a queen, and the rest of the Xenos fell under its command. Another possibility is that only one normal Xenomorph was born first, isolated, and then it looked for a royal egg, and captured a colonist, brought them to the derelict ship and fed them to the royal facehugger. In that case, the queen would've been the second one to be born.
