Skippy’s frightened squirming really terrified me, honestly. He’s a cute alien!

I always find it funny that this show has a somewhat happy ending: the cutthroat leader of a sinister megacorporation is presumably torn to shreds by the alien inhabitants of the planet he was mistakenly sent to and the two representatives of the company that clearly hated his guts are smugly responsible

This attraction was always best visited during cheerleader competition weeks. There's nothing like being locked in a chamber full of screaming teenagers...it was a hoot!

So much footage and pics I’ve never seen before, like the testing of the aliens and the effects, plus a great pic of the main alien AA, I work with a guy that was a manager all around Tomorrowland and worked in the alien encounter ride and was there when it shut down and even he doesn’t know where the aliens went, he last saw the AAs laying on the floor when they were taking the ride apart for stitch, so this was pretty cool to see more of the ride and it was

This ride was one of my most favorite Disney rides as a kid. it felt so unique compared to all the other rides at the Disney park. I actually remember the year they announce the ride would be closing. and at that time Lilo & stitch was already being advertised to death. the very last time I've been on the ride was in 2002. And that was one year before the ride with close.

I was very fortunate to visit this attraction August 1998, I went in twice. I've never had so much fun screaming and then laughing to the point of tears! This was brilliant, it made me feel like I was there again! Thanks so much for re-creating this!

Wow, definitely the highest quality and most comprehensive video I’ve seen about this ride! Loved being able to see the whole show and that picture of the alien animatronic out of the tube is amazing. Really wish I could’ve been around to experience the attraction in person!

I have been waiting for this for forever and I am VALIDATED

So awesome!!! We got to "ride" this on our last day of our trip. It opened up for a technical rehearsal in early June of 1995. 9 year old me was blown away by this. As an adult going back and seeing the stich monstrosity it became always made me sick knowing how much better what came before. Although it is making me feel pretty old knowing that i did the Mission to Mars thing too at a very young age.

Man, disney today would NEVER😭 i would give an arm and a leg to experience this😭

Great job documenting this amazing and truly terrifying attraction! The breath of the alien right by your head during the blackout was frightening! I really loved this attraction for its sinister feeling along with great comedy bits! “Seize the Future”

Some facts that weren't mentioned in the video was that this ride was meant to be themed from The Alien Franchise with the concept that it was Weyland-Yutani that accidently teleports a Xenomorph to the room during the demonstration of the teleportation system. Michael Eisner wanted to feature the Alien franchise ever since the 80's as Star Tours was such a great success at the parks. He planned on having an attraction similiar to Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin/Astro Blasters, called The Nostromo and you follow Ripley and company to save trapped humans aboard the ship while gunning at Xenormorphs. When the older Disney Imagineers heard about this, they were horrified of having an attraction based upon the X-rated horror movie full of swearing and sexual themes, plus it's depiction of the future were grim and desolate, the contrary to Walt Disney's vision of the future which was more optimistic. They convinced Eisner to drop the project but a group of younger Imagineers came up with the idea of Alien Encounter (described above) which Eisner loved but again the older Imagineers were horrified and tried again to convince him it was a bad idea. This time Eisner didn't listen so the Imagineers went to George Lucas (who at this time worked on the Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular for Disney MGM Studios) and talked him into drop the Alien-tie in. Lucas became the executive producer for the ExtraTERROR Alien Encounter and his story pitch became similiar to the final plot but with these differences. Instead of an alien being sent to Earth by accident, it was teleported on purpose by XS Tech to experiment with the alien was going to do with the guests in the teleportation room. It turns out that the alien is not a carnivorous beast but a sentient and peaceful. When XS found about this, they planned to kill all the humans and the alien to get rid of the evidence but the alien managed to hi-jack into the system, freeing the guests and slaughter all XS Staff in vengance. The reason that Alien Encounter were closed is uncertain but there are several contributors. First, a lot of guests, especially parents (who didn't read the warning signs and took their kids on the ride, missing the fact that it is a horror ride) complained that the ride didn't fit in Magic Kingdom. Secondly, Jeffery Jones were arrested for possessioning child pornography and for nude photograph underaged boys in 2002, marking him a sex offender (which Disney for their family friendly image and policy, is very much against). Finally Lilo & Stitch became a big hit and since Alien Encounter didn't have a movie tie-in, Disney wanted to cash in on the movie hence the result became Stitch's Great Escape which was using most of the original rides basic ideas but more family friendly and more focus on comedy than horror. Unfortunately, Stitch's Great Escape didn't became very popular because of the fans of Alien Encounter hated the new ride was a lazy rip-off of the more original and well-written ride, a lot of kids were scared by being in the dark and the majority of the adults found the ride too juvenile (with Stitch burping in the face of the audiences spraying a disgusting chili dog smell in the room), resulting it becoming seasonal and in 2018 it closed down and currently the attraction is in the process of being rebuilt into a new attraction (with the animatronics of Stitch, Skippy and Robot Officer being scrapped after being stripped and abandoned for some time). What will replace Stitch's Great Escape is unknown but rumor say it will become a new attraction based on Wreck-it Ralph.

The XS Tech Intro in the revised show was SOOOOO CREEPY!! That combined with the new, sinister-sounding SIR robot in the pre-show should have been plenty of warning for what lies ahead. But no. Parents just had to be stupid and irresponsible lock their kids into this ride, and then pretend to not have known how terrifying it was.

I screamed like a little baby the entire time i was strapped into the chair and then had a massive panic attack when i was "selected" and i screamed even louder and harder. I told my mom I did NOT want to go on the ride cuz i had a massive fear of the dark and i heard the seats clamped down on you making it hard to move or do anything. Everyone was yelling at me to shut up but I just couldnt stop cuz of the panic attack that lasted the whole time, I had to be taken to the first aide station and i cant remember most of the rest of the day and when i woke up the next day my throat was torn to shreads and i could barely even make a noise and it hurt to breathe. they closed the ride i wanna say like a month or two afterwords and ive always blamed myself for it kinda...

Miss this attraction. I also miss how tomorrow land was themed in the 90s

it sounds a bit crazy, but I think Disney might try something like this ride again in a seasonal format in California Adventure. It appears that they are testing the waters for how scary they can go at Avengers Campus during Oogie Boogie Bash. First they did Monsters After Dark, then in 2021 they added the zombified Captain America meet and greet. You also can't forget that Mission Breakout in itself has the X-S Tech invoice on the desk in the office. I think we may see something like this attraction appear at Oogie Boogie Bash in the not too distant future. Obviously I can't confirm it, but if it happens, I called it!

If they choose to bring back this ride, they will have to bring back the 1994 version and put it in Hollywood Studios. TOM 2000 could be voiced by Scott Finnell, who voiced Birdman from Space Ghost Coast to Coast, because his voice honestly fits well with TOM 2000's character. What do you think?
