They're too stupid to do that. I've visited workers forums including theme park based ones like this and this is the norm: a dumb parent demands that the kids be allowed on the ride even though they're too short and too young. Same dumb parent is "outraged" and threatens to sue the park just because Annie and Tommie are skeeeered. Seriously, parents sometimes make me face palm more than anyone else.

I hate that this had to happen there's a whole park of rides catered to kids but there are also adults that want to experience this park as well. I think it was the time frame of when it was added. Now a days this ride would be super popular because a lot of millenials go to Disney now it's become super popular social media wise. I honestly have to say if you were a parent that complained about this your so ridiculous there's a warning sign you should have ready you gave your child permission it's your responsibility to know what you are putting your child on

Brandon Padilla agreed .. Alien Counter looked incredible and I would’ve praised it myself as a child because I was one of those edgy kids that loved those scary and intense attractions lol. Oh my god I was a kid when my dad took me into this ride. I knew nothing of alien and had no idea what it was. I basically went in with no idea what I was walking into. Holy god. I was about 7 or 8. Although it was extremely terrifying it was one of my strongest memories from Disneyland. The feeling of it breathing on my neck. The floor and seat moving. This was seriously something else. It was unlike any other "ride" . I remember being so scared and my dad reassuring me it wasn't real. But it seemed real and for that few minutes it might have well had been. But seriously it was an amazing and creative. I'll never forget the feeling of it touching the back of my head. I think it was done with air but it felt so strange and not like air. Thanks for the video it was awesome to time travel back to that day.

My family and I went on Alien Encounter in 2001. I was 8 years old at the time and my parents had bought a guidebook that detailed every Disney ride, including a description, an age rating, a thrill rating, and a "scary" rating. We'd decided that Alien Encounter sounded good (we wanted to experience as many rides as we could in our stay there, and that the scary rating the ride received was nonsense since Snow White's Scary Adventure had received the same rating and wasn't at all scary The ride terrified me and I took the voiceover's advice not to scream very seriously, sitting in silence as the maintenance man's blood fell on me, the aliens breath on my back, unable to get out. Another kid not far from where I was sitting actually was able to almost get out of his chair. Alien Encounter became the most memorable part of my time at Disney World and I was sad to hear when it closed down. I think that it had an effect on my love of horror and sci-fi today, with Alien being one of my all-time favorite movies (I didn't even know about the connection until your video!). I even bought one of the action figures of the alien a day later (I think I still have it stowed away somewhere).

I experienced the original ride and thought it was technically brilliant. Yet, not for everyone and I can see how parents of small children would NOT like it. Sadly, many people DO NOT READ warning signs and this is where the trouble begins. I remember a time riding Space Mountain when a young woman who had to be 9 months pregnant being talked out of riding it, despite warnings, as she said it was her right to ride it. Common sense, apparently is not all that common.

I think warning signs are less useful than they could be simply because, for purposes of liability protection, there's often a long list of warnings even on a fairly mild ride, and it makes people discount them in the cases where they really ought to be paying attention. I remember having problems with this taking my family on rides at Universal: for instance, "The Simpsons Ride" is a far more intense and disorienting experience than "Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts", but you wouldn't know that from reading the warning signs. I suppose that it's subjective to some degree.
@SaturnCanuck

Warning are less useful simply because a), people do not read them and b), people feel they are unaccountable for their actions.

+Matt McIrvin He's got a point. A lot of rides warn that people with motion sickness shouldn't ride. I get hit by it pretty easily, but it's never been a problem on rides. Until I went on the Harry Potter ride at Universal Studios Hollywood (and this was *after* they removed the 3D). Holy crap, that ride is fun but incredibly nauseating, so they are not joking about the warning. Anyone who hasn't ridden it but plans to in the future, do not eat anything within an hour of riding and drink water beforehand.

So glad I got to experience the original Alien Encounter show as a kid! Quite scary, quite good. Two parts stick out: One, when the alien is slowly breaking the glass, we're all screaming our heads off, and the panicking narrator guy is like, "Don't worry! As long as the [defensive measures] are in place, the alien. Cannot. Get. Out!" Then it goes dark and we hear this loud glass shattering sound, and we all just lose it. Haha. Then when the maintenance dude first shows up with his flashlight, a bunch of us thought he was real (not an actor), we were screaming, "Help us! Get us out of here!". Way better than many haunted house experiences. Too bad it didn't do well.

Alien Encounter was the type of experience where videos alone don't do it justice. You truly felt like you were trapped in the dark as an alien ran/flew around you and eventually lurked up behind you breathing down your neck before eventually eating a crew member above you and it felt like his blood was sprayed on you.

The original Alien Encounter not Stitch (no disrespect), They should have sold the ride to Universal so people could continue to enjoy the ride. @@sofie7546 with all do respect, that’s not how business works. I’m in business school, I’ve taken some pretty hefty notes. You’re usually not helping your competitor bring in more people and money that you could be bringing in just so other people are happy. More success for universal means less for Disney. It could have potentially given Disney an even worse name if they got rid of an awesome ride and to someone else. Everyone would go to that park instead. Businesses are not in business to make their competitors and their competitors customers satisfied. Do YOU know how business works? Regardless, still a shame the ride is gone, I had the chance to experience it and have the Disney pin from it. It was one of my all time favorites. One ride in 1997 was enough for me. I was 15 years old and my two friends dragged me on the ride in a band trip. They were totally scared out of their minds, but I was the scifi nerd and managed to survive without trauma. It was just gross. I have still never seen the Alien movies, and have no desire to. That being said, the Imagineers did a fantastic job with the ride. You really were terrified because of the touch and smell and sound experience being heightened due to the dark (loss of sight will magnify your other senses to compensate). They totally took advantage of that and made a memorable encounter. When Disney locks you into the seat because hey want you to stay there the entire duration of the ride, it is "for your safety," but also this was for dramatic purposes that essentially chained you to feel the sensations presented with no escape. It's not like closing your eyes and plugging your ears would help you survive--the warm breath and saliva dripping on you was horrifying, and everyone around you---the screams would circle around the room from he other guests who were clearly TERRIFIED. Any of these "parents" who didn't believe the CLEARLY posted warning signs at the beginning of the line are either illiterate or looking for a reason to terrorize their kids. There were audio warnings, as well. The line was long, I must have heard that warning about fifty times while waiting. I'm 34 now. There is no way in HELL I would ignore that warning and take my kids under 15 on that ride.
@Phantomwise2
@Phantomwise2 7 жыл бұрын
I still am surprised how parents will ignore posted signs and audio warnings, though I've seen it countless times by now. Giving the attraction an age limit might have helped, though I'm sure many parents would still lie about their kids' ages.

Yes, but several rides at Disney warn of dark situations and scary scenarios but they are kid-friendly scary. Haunted Mansion, for example, or Space Mountain. My parents "ignored" the warning because nowhere else in the parks was there anything even CLOSE to this scary. Certainly not in Magic Kingdom. An age limit probably would have been a good idea.

The line wasn't long, that was the point mentioned in this video. When I first went on in 1999ish, we walked straight in. No queue, no time for looking around at signs, or listening to verbal warnings. And it WAS Magic Kingdom after all, why would it be scary? People don't read the health warnings outside of rides, almost all of them just talk about heart and back problems. People are very, very protective of their children - if they had thought it would be as intense as this one, so many would not have allowed their children on it. Yes, some people are stupid, but it obviously wasn't clear what type of experience this was, because everyone was letting their children on it, that's why there were constant complaints, which you don't get from other rides which aren't suitable for chidren either. The difference? Those rides have height restrictions and people know what sort of ride they are. This was a unique experience and the description was way too vague. Sarah Miller's reply is spot on - even in this video you can see a sign for the Stitch ride saying it's scary, when it evidently isn't. They should have simply said no child under 12 is allowed on, because there was no way anyone under 12 would like it anyway.

I guess I was one of the lucky few who experienced Alien Encounter in the early days. I was a kid, I knew it was supposed to be scary, and I loved it. The breath on your face, the rustle of the alien around you . . . They kept most of the elements exactly the same for the Stitch event, as far as I'm concerned. With humor and a cute mascot, of course. The re-do is much more in keeping with Disney's vision, but I'll never forget the first iteration.

Eisner *sprinkles holy water* wanted to have his cake and eat it too by replicating his success in both family and young adult demographics from Star Tours, flying too close to the sun and instead of gaining popularity from both, he got a massive wave of controversy and lost hold of what could have been one of the most popular rides today.

Well with all of the edgier, more adult fox properties they acquired, in the future they could make an entire park on attractions based on this kinds of movies. Disney did a good thing by taking a risk and creating a ride that was innovative, thrilling, and visually breathtaking. Then a bunch of dopey parents became angry when little Jimmy and Cindy pee-pee'd in their pants (despite the numerous warnings about the intensity of the attraction). Ironically, changing the ride to "Stitch" actually made it worse! It was still too scary for young children, and too annoying for adults ("chili breath", Disney characters crowbarred into the story, etc).

Yeah god forbid they have to be PARENTS and take the time to explain to little Jimmy and Cindy that it's a fucking RIDE and not real, but parents today like to make excuses. "I'm too tired to have to go thru that. Being a parent is HARD! I have to run around all day in my minivan taking Cindy to soccer practice and Jimmy to little league. I don't even like being bothered with having to deal with these little pricks' whining to me about how upset they are when they accidentally see something REAL in the world, such as a graphic traffic accident resulting in blood on the motorway, or accidentally witnessing 2 dogs maul a cat to death in the front yard. Too bad parents ignored warnings but these are the same parents that take little Jimmy out to eat at 11pm then panic when he starts to fall asleep at the table (keep in mind his bedtime at home is 8pm). Those parents are the most annoying. Also didn't help that one of the lead actors of the attraction was accused of child porn.

Replacing S.I.R. with an ear-gratingly annoying police officer is one thing (and they DEFACED the S.I.R. animatronic in order to make this horrible hellspawn), but LOADING IT WITH INFANTILE TOILET HUMOR AND WHATNOT BECAUSE LITTLE KIDS ARE APPARENTLY SO STUPID IS ANOTHER. You could've kept the original S.I.R. animatronic (Tim Curry's voice and all) and just added a police hat to him and made him less evil. Now he'll never come back because Disney and IPs are obviously in bed together.

I remember going to this on our honeymoon in 1997. One of the best attractions ever. I knew it was not real but both of us were scared beyond belief. And that was the whole point. It was years ahead of its time and I’m glad I got a chance to see it. The Stitch rework was nothing. And I always missed the original. The warnings were abundant. There was no reason someone could bring their children in there by accident. Great video. Thanks for posting this one.

"one of the most controversial..." yeah, god forbid Disneyland has an attraction for people 8 and up. i remember hearing how scary this ride was, and how cool it was to have something meant for, yknow, adults. i LOVE the indiana jones ride - that thing is rad - but "stitch's great escape" is an abomination.

Bijinius Cross there are many attractions at the Disney parks that appeal to older audiences. I don’t understand this idea that Magic Kingdom is “for kids”. Disney is not where you go to be scared out of your mind. Universal is down the road if that’s you. The mountain attractions are plenty appealing for adults, as are some of the classic dark rides or the shows. Go to Hollywood Studios and ride Tower of Terror. I don’t know what you people want. And the Indiana Jones ride at DLR hurts SO badly! Also, it’s the same as Dinosaur at AK. Go do that instead of complaining about a ride that’s been closed over 10 years that had zero business being in MK.

@TheRealLange21
@TheRealLange21 4 жыл бұрын
@@whitneymouse You can't just say "then go to Universal." There are plenty of teens and young adults who have younger siblings and go on vacation with their families wherever mom and dad decide to take them. Those young adults want something appealing to them. Alien Encounter was that something. And there are plenty of moms and dads that want something a bit more thrilling as well, but they know their kids want to go to Disney and wouldn't enjoy Universal thrill rides. I'm not a thrill ride person, but even I don't find the Mountains or the new Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and Slinky Dog Dash very "thrilling". They're very enjoyable and very fun, but they don't get my heart racing. As of right now, the only true thrill rides at Disney World are Tower of Terror, Rock n Roller Coaster, Mission Space orange, and to a lesser extent, Expedition. Disney has a history of weakening rides after complaints about them being too scary. Remember Maelstrom in the Norway pavilion in Epcot? When it first opened, it had lightning effects, rain, thunder, a big storm part. It was marketed as being a thrilling experience. They got rid of that when some people said it was too scary. It was still somewhat creepy with the three headed troll. Now it's gone and been replaced by Frozen. Disney doesn't have much for thrill seekers, and they get rid of, or weaken, rides that get any complaints. When I was a little kid, my parents and my older brother would go on Alien Encounter, and I would stay behind with my aunt because they told me it would be too scary for me. When I got a little older, they said I would be fine if I went on it. Instead of blindly ignoring the giant warning sign in the front and taking a little kid on, my parents were responsible and did the right thing. They didn't complain to Disney and ruin the experience for everyone else. They parented.

I was fortunate enough to experience this attraction. I went to Disney shortly after Christmas 2002. My friends and I were that target audience. We were teens looking for something a little bit more grown up. We loved it so much, we did it like 4 or 5 times when we were there. I had no idea the attraction was closing, so when I went back in the spring of 2004, I was really sad to see it gone. It was a thrill. It was scary. It was so different from what Disney was and it broke up the monotony of childish cuteness. It was a legend and an amazing attraction that is dearly missed.

Maybe with the new genration of kids that like scary stuff like five nights at freadys we will see it return or somthing like it.

Another reason that may have contributed to the closing of the attraction was that families would go to the park, do their business, then when it was time to leave they would get on alien encounter with their children, and then complain to the staff about the ride and obtain a complete refund, allowing people to go the the park virtually for free, and with the internet getting attention and making it easier to spread information, Disney had a big problem with this "hack" becoming public knowledge.

I saw it multiple times when I was little. Not sure which version, but I remember LOVING it. Parenting 101 means you should read the damn big ass warning sign at the front and know what you could can handle. Also, reminding your cold no matter how scared s/he gets, Disney wouldn't make anything that would cause harm and its all pretend. Just use your imagination and enjoy the experience. Honestly, this would have been more proper at MGM or even more accepted at Universal Studios. Hell, Disney should feel lucky enough that Universal Studios didn't court George Lucas with a Star Wars ride.

I experienced this attraction when I was a Kid, maybe like 6 to 8 don't remember at the moment, and to be honest, I WAS TERRIFIED and marked me for a long time. I Can still remember getting out of this attraction and seeing a bunch of kids crying all around me, really a moment I will much likely never forget. But what I found really weird is that I've always remembered the attraction with an actual XENOMORPH. Probably my mind after watching the Alien movies just replaced the alien from the ride for an Xeno since I was REALLY terrified of them. This "Alien Encounter" attraction marked me so badly that I straight went through the Stitch one with my eyes closed and humming because of the experienced I had. Although the irony is that because of this ride I became fascinated by the Alien movies and really wish one day we could see an actual attraction of the Alien Franchise.

Thank you for this video. My family and my brother’s family were fortunate enough to see the original Alien Encounter. Our children were mixed ages; 7, 8, 10, and 11. The show was absolutely the BEST. I had never experienced something so real. Not mentioned in the video, were the strings or fishing lines they had hitting your legs when the alien escaped. Needless to say all the adults (especially my brother and I) and the 11 year old (the only child that was a girl) absolutely loved it. We wanted to go right back on the ride and do it again. However the three boy children were not so enthusiastic. My son, the 7 year old , was in a state of shock. He had a few tears coming down, but would not talk and was just in a stare mode. My 8 year old nephew was crying which took awhile to calm him. It didn’t help that us adults were laughing and so happy out of the thrill of this fantastic ride. Now my son, he stayed in that shock status for about 20 minutes, not responding to any questions and not saying a word. My 10 year old nephew thought about it, and then was all in for going on the ride again, once he talked with the 11 year old. Then about 20 minutes later, long after we had my 8 year old nephew calmed down, my son started balling his eyes out and he was trying to say something. But we could not understand. So after a few minutes, we realized he was trying to tell us the alien stole his hard plastic Disney water cup with the top and straw. So now, my two nephews (8 and 10) got very serious again, the 8 year old started shedding tears again. Oh my gosh, hilarious. Now all of us adults, and the 11 year old, had stopped laughing up until this new information given by my son. Then we started laughing so hard we could barely stand up. Now this did not sit well with my son, as he was thoroughly upset that this alien had stolen his cup. As money was tight and he was only aloud to purchase one item which he chose this cup. Actually we just forgot the cup, and think it probably fell on the floor during the show, but we could not convince my son of this. The more we laughed, the more upset and now getting mad he became. We calmed the boys back down. I purchased another cup for my son and he was better. Now we had read the warning messages and spoke with the kids about the ride before going on. They all wanted to go. Even after my sister in law said she would wait outside with the younger two boys. Nope they wanted to go. So we all went. We all survived, although some may have experienced a little PTSD for a bit. But I would never complain. This was a great ride, with plenty of warnings. It was a great lesson for the boys, and I can tell you they are all grown men today who really are not scared of anything. Heck, my son rode bulls for 9 years regularly until a horrible bull related accident. But guess what, 6 months later he climbed back on bulls even though the previous bull had broken multiple bones, collapsed both lungs, and he clinically died and was brought back. All of the boys have lived full lives, not afraid to try something scary or even dangerous. I believe too many parents today protect their children too much. Kids need to experience things, and know how to accept and deal with fear, so once they become an adult they will have a better handle on how to control fear, anxiety, and the unknown. I do not regret taking the kids on this ride. I really did want to go again, but we did not force the three boys back on the ride. So unfortunately I was only able to experience this ride once. As the next time I went to DW, Stich was there. Stich was ok, but no where near as good as Alien Encounters. My grandchildren have now heard the stories of Alien Encounters and they so wish they could have experienced it. It would be great if they would bring it back. The ride/show/attraction was truly one of the best ever.

You did forget to mention Phil Hartman's death and and the lackluster of Stitch's Great Escape. I never saw Alien Encounter in person (only in KZfaq videos and I love it), but I did see Stitch in person which I absolutely thought was a terrible replacement for a great ride. I feel robbed of my time. I did see Stitch's version online first before I experienced it in person, and so I wasn't surprised at its horribleness. I saw Stitch in person anyhow to give the ride a chance to redeem itself. One of the things that makes Stitch so terrible, is that the ride turns a loveable cartoon character into a terrible menace which totally doesn't match the cartoon's storyline. Disney really needs to bring back Alien Encounter. I would absolutely love to see it in person. If Space mountain and all of it's incantations and the Expedition Everest can exist, than so can Alien Encounter.

Glad you enjoyed the video! I suppose I could replace "Untold" with "aspects not covered at depth or at all in video form", but it doesn't have as nice of a ring to it ;) I didn't mention Phil Hartman's death as it didn't seem relevant to the story (occurred 3 years after the attraction opened, by which point his voice had long been replaced). As far as Stich, I try to keep as subjective as possible when making these videos, as while many despise the attraction, there are many who love it and see it as superior.

That was the most scared I've been as a little kid. I actually thought I was in a room with an alien as it licked the back of my neck 🤦🏿‍♂️. I LOVED that ride!!! I went back after I joined the military with my fiance, thinking it was still there 😣. Now only a handful of people I know have that experience. I'm telling my kids about it now 😌. Ah memories!

Long commet make sure you read the hole thing. There was a similar ride at Alton Towers in england called Nemesis Sub Terra.:-) I only rode it once with some friends on Halloween.:-) Me and my friends enjoyed the ride because we were all fans of Si-Fi and the Alien movies.:-)Sadly in 2015 the ride was closed maintenance as far as I know its still closed.:-( I hope this ride re-opens it was a great experience esecially around Halloween.:-) It also added to the parks law there is a rollercoster called Nemesis.:-) Witch was based on an alien creature that was bealved have crash landed in the grounds of Alton Towers.:-) The creature was killed by a giant gun, there is a modle of the giant gun near the two rides.:-) Also around the two rides there are rivers and water falls that run red with creatures blud, Alton Towers is no stranger to doing horror based rides.:-)The parks designers and seam to enjoy creating B movie style storys to go with there creations.:-) Every year aroud Halloween the park has special attractions EG: A late night zombie walk where the staff try and scare the customers.:-) Other rides includ a hounted house ride called The Duel where you get to shoot horror stuff, there is a creapy rollercoster called 13 witch is based around a possessed yung girl, there is a ride called Hex its about a cersed tree. Nemesis Sub Terra was a companion piece to the Nemesis rollercoster. Witch went in to greater detail about the creatures back story.:-) Nemesis Sub Terra was about a discovered creature egg. In the ride the egg hatches and the baby creature attacks and scares actors and the audience.:-)

I went on this ride in 1996, when I was 11. I screamed my head off and loved it. To feel like it was licking the back of your head and not be able to run! And the dialogue was hilarious-“Who’s brain is this?!?” There was nothing like it; I’d love to do something like that again.

I was tall as a child so I saw this when I was 9. It was the second version as I remember Tim Curry’s voice in the pre-show. I’m 26 now and I still remember the feeling of the “blood” they spray on your face- it was warm and viscous, it felt too thick to be water. I remember one of the voice over actors saying “keep quiet don’t scream!!” So I closed my lips and screamed into my mouth. So scary, and my mom still apologizes to this day for bringing me, but I’m so happy I got to experience it

I feel like if they hadn't talked Eisner out of using the Alien movie theme like they had originally planned the ride/show (whatever you want to call it) would still be open. Which makes me really sad because I would've loved to experience it but now never can because of stupid parents who didn't pay attention to the obvious signs saying it's too scary (and are probably also the same parents who let their kids do stupid stuff like climbing on trashcans and playing on guardrails & chains).

So presumably the proper Alien attraction would still have the warning signs outside. Which would still be ignored. So I'm not entirely sure how you could conclude that the official tie-in would still be open.

People ignore signs. They aren't going to ignore that it's connected to the ALIEN franchise which is very well known. That would have solved half the problem of people not reading the signs alone by just using the actual movie license due to people (adults/parents) already being aware of it.

Taylor Romano although if going with the original alien theme... I don't know if you ever seen the movie but the alien's head was a penis. Watch the extras for the movies the directors were in love with penis art... They could not get enough of it 😋

I saw Alien Encounter in 2000 when I was 18. I thought it was fantastic and loved the special effects. Definitely not an attraction for small childern, but it brought a great teen/adult attraction to the mostly child geared park.

I remember this attraction well, and I actually loved it! I was one of those kids obsessed with horror and aliens and being scared, so it was one of the highlights of my childhood and certainly my favorite attraction at the park! The experience I remember was after the alteration in which they made the alien explode at the end, and I was lucky enough to go on it a few times during the years it was open. I was pretty bummed when I had found out that it was closed, but it’s pretty funny to see how they repurposed it. Great memory overall.

It was 9/93, I was 29, my sister was just married on 9/11 of that year. It was that week... my best friends family invited me to a Disney Vacation. My 1st time, we went to the Magic Kingdom, and BAM, Alien Encounter, we all went on it... maybe not Alien, but one hella scary Encounter for this 29YO! I was hooked. Revisited the Stich's Encounter later, but I will go to evenness knowing I encountered a Disney Extreme!

I got to experience this back in 2002, and it was scary! Some idiot took his young child despite the warnings and this poor kid was traumatized! Screaming bloody murder, and once you were strapped in there was no leaving. I remember the creature breathing on my neck- so well done.

By the time we got back to Disney World a couple years later it was gone :(. But it will always be a strong memory I have of my first trip to WDW

I went on this ride and it was truly something different. I think it was a great ride but put out too soon and people were not ready. I think if it was out today it would be more tolerable. The great movie ride at Hollywood Studios has an Alien set. I think it's ok for kids to be scared. There wasn't any bad language or outright violence. It was just loud and scary with some state of the art special effects.
