If you go back and watch the 1979 trailer for Alien, it strongly hints that Ash is a sus character. Not entirely human. Which for anyone back then really paying attention to the trailer, it would certainly ruin the surprise plot twist of Ash being an android. Or at the very least, not human. That trailer also shows Kane, John Hurt's character, rolling in pain on top of a table. So that part in the trailer could lessen a little bit the surprise of that scene. Compared to anyone who had missed the trailer and went in blind into the dinner scene for the 1st time. Anyway, I don't think those scenes are gonna ruin the movie. IMO almost nobody goes into these movies expecting every character to survive. And even if they do, they might not survive a sequel (see Aliens 3) 😉

Hopefully it'll be good; but I've been burned before on this franchise. The production design LOOKS like Alien & Aliens, but "teens-in-space" isn't very reassuring. I heard someone say, roughly, that the people who made Starwars originally were inspired by all sorts of movies & literature; the people making SW movies now are just inspired by watching Starwars. I *hope* that the same isn't true here. Paying visual lip service to the look of the first two movies, but using it as set dressing for a teen slasher movie, would be disappointing.

I'm curious about the floating rock thingy being scanned by red lasers as it appears to be entering an open airlock. Could that be the original alien, perhaps somehow cocooned and hibernating and going into some kind of stasis to survive the cold vacuum of space. The shot of the fingers opening up and extending... could this be Big Chap himself "thawing out" onboard the station. Maybe these are scenes from before the main timeline of the movie... flashbacks to a timeframe before the main characters arive at the space station.

There’s so much playing off our nostalgia of the grails of the first two. I’m gonna zone out if it just reheats scenes from those movies, and especially if we start hearing characters repeat classic lines from previous films. “Game over!” Indeed. Still, a reasonable chance this will be the best we’ve had since 1991 (I’m an Alien 3 fan) I’m hoping, like Alien Theory, there’s new stuff all been hidden from the trailers.

Instead we're getting this and Gladiator 2, Pascal Boogaloo. Ridley's earned the freedom to do whatever project he wants unhindered but Jesus Christ am I disappointed that his last movie may be one no one ever wanted. I haven't seen your channel before and I'm commenting before even watching this so I look forward to your insight, already subbed. I just needed to get the rant out now that this trailer has finally dropped. I'm still in for this one but my one reservation is that great casting clearly shouldered the weight of the last 4 movies and this cast is for shit. Zero charm to be had to soften the blow of this movie sucking in any aspect so it's gonna have to rock on it's own feet. I do hope this adds something worthwhile to the story but as far as my hype is concerned I'm simply supporting this on the deluded hope that if it brings in enough they'll see reason and conclude David's story. How can anyone not enjoy Michael Fassbender's performances as David and Walt? He steals every scene! Alien 3 was my least favorite, but I still enjoyed it. Alien was in a class by itself, but Aliens was a very solid and competent sequel. Resurrection f*cking rocked, and was also super interesting. Prometheus WAS kind of lacking, but damn, it was beautiful, the engineer scenes were awesome, and of course Michael Fassbender as David. Covenant... Well. It was also beautiful, and you HAVE to admit that when things first started going to hell, your pulse quickened with the musical score, and you got to see EXACTLY what you were expecting to see. I ignored James de Franco's cameo death and rock climbing scenes, and overall thought Daniels was a decent character. And of course, there was Fassbender playing David and Walt with only the smallest of nuanced differences between them. I am completely hyped to thoroughly enjoy Romulus as much as any other movie in the franchise.

Idk, covenant and prometheus just added too much unnecessary backstory. Didn't feel "alien". And the sleek polished look and feel just wasn't very "scary".

@NotMorganFreeman. Exactly. In the original we see its ribs bent outwards, obviously not part of a suit. But now it's a suit for a giant albino underwear model? Ridley Scott just watched too much Ancient Aliens on history channel and came up with an awful idea.

This, I feel, is a pretty good trailer. I specifically want to point out how we haven't really had "Facehugger horror" since the first movie. In the sequel, we only got it for a few minuets when they were loose with Newt and Ripley. In 3, the hugger already infested a creature off screen. And in 4, loads of aliens already existed. The shot where a man is partially fellating a facehugger's esophigial tube, and seems to be managing to remove it, and with as many face huggers as there are in this film, I think this will have at least in this way, things we've never seen.

If Disney is in involved then it could be severely jacked up. These days they ruin EVERY movie they have their hands in. With that said, the trailer does look good and I am hoping it delivers what we are all hoping for….a great addition to the alien franchise.

I think it's great that he's doubling down on the facehuggers. They are arguably the most under-exploited part of the life cycle and as a concept are truly horrific in many ways.

really not a fan of using the younger actors in this. feels like its a coming of age / alien mix. so its going to be very hard for me to take that seriously if they want to actually bring some serious life into this, have the aliens finally land on earth... that way we can see some serious shit. also i loved that Concept Art from Neill Blomkamp showing an alien being mind-controlled using some sort of headset, thus weaponizing the aliens (which was always a major theme in the franchisee but rarely developed) albeit in a crude way.

It brings to mind a cheap eighties slasher film for me. That said, I could actually see Alien's brand of horror work on some new visceral level, having all these fresh faced, eerily childlike crew members being violated and assaulted in that Giger way. There's something deeply unsettling about that idea.

If you love the alien universe and alien lore, we as alien fans need to go out and see this in theatre, support it so hopefully it does well and they green light more alien projects in gaming, movies, and maybe even tv/streaming. Does anyone read the alien comics?

I'm sorry, but BECAUSE I'm such an Aliens fan, I cannot unsee how much of an attempt this movie seems to be trying to recapture or even 1up the iconic scenes and moments from Aliens - AS IF THAT IS SOMEHOW NECESSARY? No. - I'm torn, however. I want to see this in theaters simply because I want to show support that Alien movies are being made, but I also don't know if seeing it and disliking it will translate in the metrics that Hollywood is paying any attention to. I fear it's just ticket sales, in which I may end up supporting the approach of "we can recapture the success of that old movie, and update it for the 'new generation' and it doesn't matter how good the characters and writing actually are" by my dollar going to it. Prey made me happy I waited to watch it for free. Perhaps I should stick with my gut on this one. I hope ya'll enjoy this in the theater. I don't hope for negative experiences. I hope for the best. I just have seen no evidence that I should expect anything other than a consecutive line of letdowns.

1 up Aliens in what way in what way? It has no space marines nor loads of fire power nor a power loader, it appears. Instead it appears like the movie is going for a cross between Alien and Aliens so that the three movies together built up from Alien, to Alien Romulus to the biggest and most epic of the three, Aliens.

Thanks for the breakdown. Some of the hallway images of the space station looking strikingly similar to the hallways in Alien: Isolation. I heard Alvarez was influenced in some ways by it. The opening sequence in the teaser trailer of the ship approaching the station looks a lot like Isolation as well.
