April 2015, I was at Calgary Comic Expo, the main guests were the entire cast of Aliens. On the last day, at the closing announcement, they had Bill Paxton do his "game over" speech to close the show instead. The whole show stopped as soon as we all realized it was not the normal announcer - thousands of people all at once broke out laughing. Rest in peace Bill, you are missed.

Hudson's character is so quotable most likely due to Bill Paxton's performance. RIP Paxton

OMG, this masterpiece was released in 1986! It's 37 years ago and still looks way more better than a lot of modern movies!

The illusion of so many aliens was created with only five costumes. The way it was filmed was genius.

I have to admit, at 40 years old I love watching your generation experience this movie for the first time. Its one of my favorites and I saw it when I was 10.

If you think the actor playing the Srgt is pretty good at being in charge, that's because he's the real deal. He was a former Srgt in Vietnam so yeah he knows how to act on charge. Behind the scenes he helped the cast with acting more like an authentic unit working together.

You can tell by the look he gives Ripley when they first get on the drop ship that Hicks is the only one that actually read her report. His actions toward her and respect from then on makes sense.

I'm 53 years old. Ellen Ripley, Sarah Connor, and Princess Leia were the women action heroes I grew up with. Trinity as well. I think they have a different style than the ones today.

Ripley's "Get away from her you BITCH!" is one of the most badass lines in moviedom. Carrie Henn (Newt), did a really great job in the movie, but decided acting wasn't for her. She left Hollywood and became a teacher. Paul Reiser (Burke) took his mother to the premiere. His character was such a scumbag that his mother stood and cheered when he died.

Bill Paxton was also briefly in "The Terminator," as the spiky haired member of the trio that the terminator demanded clothes from. Lance Hendrickson(Bishop), was a plainclothes police officer in that movie.

A funny little detail about Michael Biehn is that he's actually using the same model of shotgun in both Terminator and in this film, the Ithaca 37. This is likely a small nod to the prior role, especially given the prominence of the weapon in both films, but a really cool detail is that when Michael Biehn played a character in The Mandalorian (I won't spoil anything about that), his character uses a scatter blaster (energy shotgun) that looks an awful lot like a Star Wars-ified Ithaca 37. It's a little prop detail but I rather like it.

30 years after I watched this movie it was pointed out to me that the woman in the chestburster scene managed to not get captured by the aliens until a day before the marines turned up. If she had just managed to stay hidden for one day longer she may well have survived. Really sad if you think about it.

Shortly after the film's world premiere, actor Paul Reiser -- who played Carter Burke -- was on Letterman and he told the story of how he took his mother as his guest to the world premiere. They got to the scene where Burke gets it from an alien, and his own mom stood up and cheered.

This is my favorite James Cameron movie. Absolute masterpiece. Stan Winston was the visual effects artist and he was a genius.

Hicks isn't the only one that was also in the first Terminator movie. Bishop was the cop in the Police Station who was trying to call Sarah Connor. The cool thing is that Bishop and Hicks both died in Terminator but they both got to live in this movie even though Bishop got ripped in half. I do love how Newt and Ripley bonded throughout this movie. I really loved it when Newt called Ripley "Mommy" at the end.

My favorite bit of trivia is that Lance Henriksen practiced with a knife for months before filming and Bill Paxton didn't know that. Having his hand there with the other over top of it wasn't in the script and he didn't know it was going to happen. So everything about that scene was real. That was a real knife, he really did it that fast, and that was a real reaction of panic and terror.

Hudson is easily one of my favorite characters in this film. His lines are memorable! "What do you mean they cut the power? They're animals!"

The actress playing Vasquez was also John Connor's step mom in Terminator 2.

The joke "she thought they meant illegal aliens and signed up" was based on truth. The actress Jenette Goldstein (who is 100 percent Jewish and 0 percent Hispanic, by the way) showed up to the casting call dressed like a Mexican migrant farm worker because she thought that's what the movie "Aliens" was going to be about. The casting director thought that was so funny that he offered her the part on the condition she play the role in the Mexican immigrant character. At one of my former jobs, my favorite partner to work with was a short Mexican girl, and she reminded me so much of Vasquez because she was so tough and dedicated to the work, just like I was. I used to send her gifs and memes of Goldstein as Vasquez, as well as Drake and Vasquez together and say, "Look, there we are! Remember those days?" I miss her...

I got to know Lance Henrikson a bit in the eighties - one of the most respectful beings I have ever met. Hey, Lance!

The entire cast is amazing, but I'd like to give particular respect to Paul Reiser. At this point in his career, Paul was known for being a stand-up comedian and for comedic roles, with only a handful of acting credits under his belt. He's so good in this movie, shifting effortlessly to a serious role where you're not quite sure what he's capable of. At first you think he's just a company man, trying to protect Weyland-Yutani's interests, until.... And Paul pulls it off brilliantly. Kudos to the casting crew for getting him and believing he could play the part.

I actually asked Michael Biehn (hicks) at a comic convention, if he actually did the stunt jumping through the window. Yeah that was him, he said he was up for it but you couldn't see too clearly so he understood if people didn't believe it was actually him. Nice guy too.

Also, Bill Paxton was such a gentleman that he felt bad whenever the script required him to swear around Newt (Carrie Henn). After every scene that he where he swore around Newt he apologized to her. EVERY scene. That's why his line was "Stop your grinnin' and drop your linen" instead of the classic line (forgive me) "Drop your cocks and grab your socks." He just couldn't say the line in front of Carrie. I believe that this alternate version was suggested by Sgt. Apone (Al Matthews) who was a real Marine in Vietnam.

This and "Terminator 2" are two of the best sequels of all time. I prefer the director's cut for the same reason you mentioned: that it informs and presages her connection with Newt.

Sigourney Weaver was excellent in the first movie and she's even better in his one. The character dynamics aren't overly complicated, but they're powerful and compelling. Everyone's character adds just the right amount to the mix, with Ripley's interactions with Newt being particularly well done. James Cameron used a lot of the same themes again in "Terminator 2"... including having a kicka$$ female lead, lots of guns and explosions, being hunted by seemingly unstoppable foes, motherhood, artificial humanoids, and those same artificial humanoids acting in ways which redeemed them as being more human than they'd been previously depicted. Overall, "Aliens" is one of the finest action/horror/sci-fi movies ever.

She said twister is a favorite, and then I subbed right away. Hey there. This movie is amazing. We all miss you, Bill.

I remember seeing this in the theater and being blown away. Edge of my seat the whole time. Then the next year I saw Predator in the theater and was equally blown away. You must see Predator!!!

One of the best movies, and greatest sequels of all time. Cameron based the entire story on the Vietnam War, where a low tech army smashed a high tech army, and the story was laced with PTSD through Ripley's character. Ripley's reasoning for returning to LV-426, is the same as Vietnam Vets, who hated every minute of being in the war, but would sign up for a 2nd, 3rd and sometimes even a 4th tour of duty, regardless of how terrible it was.

Just keep going. Alien 3, Alien Resurrection, Prometheus, and Alien Covenant. Watch'em all!

Saw this screened in the royal Albert hall with a live orchestra performing the score - and then James Cameron and Sigourney Weaver came out at the end to take a bow 😮

If and when you move on to Alien 3, I highly recommend the longer special edition/assembly cut version (145 minutes to the theatrical version's 115 minutes). It's much closer to what director David Fincher originally intended before significant studio interference. My two cents. Have fun with the rest of the franchise!

Burke is one of my favourite characters in the film, the guy you just love to hate. The shots with him shutting the cameras off and closing the door on his fellow humans are spot on as is the dialogue between him and the rest of the cast, so many good one-liners. Great role, well played, glad you were eaten.

I am soooooo happy you went with the extended cut. It adds so much to the story and the characters. Once I discovered it I never watched the theatrical cut again. It actually feels like an entirely different movie. Also, I very highly recommend reading the novels

Hicks had read the report and took it to heart, unlike the others who didn't take it seriously. He was sizing up Ripley early on to see if she was for real, and once her story was confirmed, he was impressed that she had survived her first encounter with the aliens and started accepting her advice without question. At least, that's how I interpret it.

I believe this movie was my first ever R-rated film i saw, back when i was like 6 or 7 It holds a special place as a good film for me, and has aged like fine wine

In the late 90s I got to go behind the scenes of the now sadly closed ‘Alien War’ attraction at Londons Trocadero Centre. They had a load of amazing props; including Dietrich’s armour, several smart guns & flamethrowers from the production. Also there were two art deco dog sculptures, which had featured in a deleted scene in Alien 3. Fun facts: When they went to Acton Power station in West London to film Tim Burtons Batman, the sets of the Alien hive were still there. For a long time, the Alien Queen was the single largest puppet ever created for a film. There’s also a deleted scene which shows what happened to Burke. Carrie Henn (Newt) is now a school teacher, but is still very much involved with Aliens. During the filming of the escape through the air ducts, Carrie Henn repeatedly messed up her lines, so that she could slide down the chute. Also, when they were filming the sequence of her in the water, she spend a lot of time just hanging out with the performer who was playing the Alien. According to Henn they just say their dangling their feet into the water & chatting; I just picture Newt & her Xenomorph friend hanging out 😂 Al Matthews (Sgt Apone) was Vietnam Veteran & used his past experience to help with the training of the rest of cast during pre-production. Please, please ignore those who say otherwise & make sure you round off the trilogy by watching the Assembly Cut of Alien 3. Alien 3 was David Fincher (Seven, Social Network etc) directorial debut & is what I consider to be a failed masterpiece. It has been disowned by its director & was the product of too much interference by the studio. Even to this day, is remains a film that splits opinion amongst fans of the series. Visually, it’s absolutely stunning & although the script isn’t perfect, it does serve a purpose in Ripley’s story arc. The Assemby Cut fixes multiple issues from the theatrical cut & also reintroduces several scenes. It is now my preferred version of the film; & without giving anything away, I do prefer part of the theatrical cuts ending. It was also the last film that the legendary Jordan Cronenweth (Blade Runner) would serve; albeit briefly as Director Of Photography on. Cronenweth left the production just after filming began due to his deteriorating health relating to Parkinson’s Disease.

Looking at the cast isn't really cheating when only Ripley and Jonesy survived the first movie. 🤪

Fun fact: when James Cameron had the reunion with the studio to try to get funds, he just wrote the word ALIEN on a white board, proceeding to add the dollar symbol at the end of the word (ALIEN$). He needed no other word to convince them.

Now check this out, the lady who plays Vasquez is the same lady who played John Conners foster mom in Terminator 2. She is also on Titanic. I've seen all three of these movies tons of times and did not make this realization til a couple years ago.

I don’t necessarily agree that this movie is “better” but I can certainly see why this sequel is more of a crowd pleaser and it’s really great in its own way.

"Is there anything you can do?" - don't judge Apone for asking that question, don't forget she spent the last almost 60 years asleep. It would be a very relevant question nowadays or any other time. The laughter afterwards was genuine and good-natured, not derogatory or mocking.

Paul Reiser(Burke) and Helen Hunt from Twister were in a series called Mad About You that went for 8 seasons.

Burke also caused all the problems since he sent the family to investigate the coordinates of the derelict spacecraft and didn't warn them what they might find there.

What's always been surprising to me is that I've been a fan of this movie since I first saw it in the early 90s as a kid, but I didn't realize that the Newt Ripley was carrying through the hive at the end was a dummy until I watched the behind the scenes featurettes from the Alien Quadrilogy boxset, and that was around 15 years later. It's a testament to the visual effects crew for making such a convincing replica of Newt, and the director and cinematographer for knowing how to shoot it to maintain the illusion.

Lance Henrikson played a terrifying vampire in After Dark and terrifying villains in 99 other films, at least. I have been corrected, the film is called After Dark.

37:00 The fight with the power loader is set up waaaaay back in the beginning, at the inquest, where the company revokes Ripley's license, which forces her to find low-level work at the docks, where she learns to operate the power loader. Which she would never need to know as a flight officer. Unlike other movies where the "hero" automatically knows how to do everything.

Great job with a great movie! 1) Those smaller ones that attach to people's faces to implant the embryo - those are called "face huggers". 2) You made a great point about how the Aliens view Bishop being artificial. Most viewers don't pick up on this. There is a lot of discussion about how Bishop crawled all the way through the pipe to the communication tower without getting killed and it may be that he's not a target because he's not "biological". There are even rumors of an un-filmed scene where he encounters an alien on the way but it is uninterested in him. 3) Burk was so hated that, famously, the actor's own mother applauded when Burk finally got killed. Also there is a deleted scene you can find on KZfaq where Ripley runs into Burk again while she is looking for Newt. I won't spoil what happens =) 4) The little girl who played newt was not an actor. She has talked much about the filming of the movie and how much fun she had. In the scene where she falls down the ventilation shaft she said she intentionally messed up the scene over and over so she could slide down the duct again 😆

While *_Alien_* is a cosmic horror film, *_Aliens_* is a sci-fi action film, and they're both _amazing_ examples of both. Personally, I'm a very big fan of Ridley Scott's continuation with *_Prometheus_* & *_Alien Covenant_* a lot because they maintain his same cosmic horror element from his first film, whereas *_Alien³_* & *_Alien: Resurrection_* are more of the sci-fi action in their tone. Hopefully you have a good time with whichever of the ones you decide to check out after this!!

To all Whimsory fans: PLEASE don't spoil movies for her. I see a lot of this in the comments of reactors. "Oh, you gotta watch the second movie. That's where the wife becomes the villain!" NO! Don't do that. And don't oversell something. Just say, "If you liked the first one, i think you'll enjoy the next one." With all the people saying, something is amazing, it's going to be a letdown no matter what. Then she will feel pressured to react according to your expectations.

types of Aliens thus far - spider like from eggs are Facehuggers, Chestbursters are as the name says the small ones that burst from the chest, Xenomorphs are the species as a whole, but mainly the large aliens that they fight the most, the boss for this movie was the Queen (aka the B****) - her head was more flared out and crown like.

Carrie Henn, who played Newt soon gave up acting and became a Primary School Teacher. She said that the Assistant Director said they were going to shoot the scene with Newt in the water the next day. So, overnight they kept the water warm. In the morning Newt said the water was too hot so her and the "Alien" sat on the side bathing their feet in the water till it cooled a little.

In case you're wondering, the aliens are called "Xenomorphs" and when the little face huggers impregnate you, the chest-burster guy is part human DNA and part Xenomorph DNA. So if it goes in a kitty cat for example, the alien would bust out and be some crazy catlike alien thing.

This is one of my all time favorites. Fun fact, Vasquez was also John Connors foster mom in Terminator 2, and the spider creatures are called Face huggers. I'm so happy you did this one soon after the original. I look forward to your new reactions, keep at it, you always make me smile. :)

Here is a silly little random Fact: Bill Paxton and Lance Henriksen, have been killed by "The Predator, Aliens, and The Terminator. While Michael Biehn and Jenette Goldstein have only been killed by The Terminator and Aliens, Jenette playing John Connor adopted mom in T2.

I know it gets a lot of bad press. But I do recommend watching the extended version of Alien 3. I believe it's for rent. Stay far away from the theatrical cut, the story is a mess in that version. Ignore the naysayers and make your own decision. But I do recommend extended version. Very happy you got to see the extended version of aliens!

I really like your analysis at the end of the films. You do that better than many of the other young youtube producers. I am already old and have seen these films during my youth. If you want to learn more about Amanda Ripley, I suggest checking out the survival horror game Alien: Isolation. It's widely regarded as an equally great sequel to the original film as Aliens is, and the actor who plays Lt. Gorman in this voices one of the main characters in the game (Marshall Waits). Fair warning though, this game is also widely regarded as one of the scariest games ever made

Best Sequel Ever.

Michael Biehn, aka Reese wasn't the original actor chosen to play Hicks. He replaced the previous actor and reshot his scenes. Because he wore the original guy's body armour it didn't really fit him properly. His experience as Reese, and connection to the director made him a great last-minute replacement.

Bill Paxton was also the blue-haired punk at the start of The Terminator. Also, Lance Henriksen, the guy playing Bishop, also played the talkative detective in The Terminator. And Jenette Goldstein, AKA Private Vasquez, was John's foster mother in Terminator 2. A company called Hacksmith Industries built a real, function version of the Power Loader. They cheated a little by giving it treads instead of legs, but the upper portion, including the arms are virtually identical to the movie version. It's strong enough to pick up a car. You can find videos of the construction and testing of it here on KZfaq. Scenes not in the theatrical cut: All the stuff about Ripley's daughter, some lines in the hearing, the scenes of the colony and Newt's family, the automated guns in the tunnel, the discussion of there being a queen, and the name exchange.

This film is an absolute classic.

OK, here we go with the weird connections. The year after this movie came out, Janette Goldstein (Vasquez), Lance Henriksen (Bishop) and Hudson (Bill Paxton) were in a film called Near Dark. Henriksen and Paxton, of course, were both in The Terminator, and Goldstein plays John Conner's foster mom in Terminator 2. And here comes the deep cut - Robert Winley appears as a biker in Near Dark, credited as "Patron in bar", and is "Cigar biker" in Terminator 2.

Bishop is obviously the low key MVP 😁
