Whats the saying: Youth and Exuberance is no match for Oldage and Treachery

Story was interesting, BUT, you can always tell when someone without Naval experience writes a story. 1) No "fleet" is commanded by a mere Captain. 2) No "lieutenant" will ever be field promoted to command a fleet after said fleet loses a ship. 3) Fleet commander sets the battle plan, but the Captain fight his ship. 4) No fleet commander interacts with an individual fighter pilot actively fighting the enemy. The story was great... Except for the premice, the plot, and the characters.

I got about 4 and a half minutes in and had to stop. 1st, A Captain would never be given command of a fleet, he might be given command of a division (2-4 ships) that is part of a fleet but only if he was senior enough. 2nd, A reserve fleet means the ships are permanently in port until decommissioned, they will be maintained but have no crews. It typically takes a month to activate a reserve fleet at least. Usually they have to activate reserve personnel to crew the ships and that takes a lot of time. Normally a fleet is a very large organization. It is also divide up in Squadrons and each squadron is divided up into division. If an emergency happened and a Navy needed to get ships to a location to defend an ally but their fleets were already busy elsewhere, they would request those fleets to send either a squadron or division each to aid. Activating a reserve fleet would take way too long. Also the central command would request specific officers and their ships to be sent so they would have the command staff present they want. each of those commanders would receive briefings on who would be where in the command structure in case of losses.
