@@krashd in the director's cut version of Alien released in 2003, there's a deleted scene where Ripley found her crew members being coocooned and slowly turned into eggs, this is the true life cycle of the xenomorph... until James Cameron made Aliens and the life cycle changed. Long story short, the Alien is killing them to survive, a natural instinct honed amongst every existing predator Also, imagine if you are onboard in an unknown ship filled with unknown alien-like creatures, of course your first thing in your mind is to stay alive, and you may choose whether to stay hidden or try to kill them one by one before you get killed by them.... Since the Alien is a type of predator on its own planet, definitely it will kill the crew members of the ship to stay alive

How about we stop using people liking movies we don't as a way to dismiss their opinions? Maybe they simply have different taste than you. Alien will always remain an influential classic, but it's about time you realize there is nothing universally loved in this world. The video itself is pretty positive towards the criticism he obviously disagrees with, and I think you guys should learn from him on how to handle criticism towards a thing you love. Just because you disagree with it does not mean you gain anything by sitting back in your echo chamber. Rebutting criticism may help you understand better why you love the things you do, and it helps to introduce new blood into the fandom instead of chasing them off with your toxicity. And besides all that, what does assuming makes out of me and you? No need to attack fans of other movies just because someone who may not even be a fan of them didn't like your movie. All what you're saying at that point is "no you".

I think my brother likes Alien, but I know he doesn't like slow burns in general. Most people out there have a huge hard on for action packed films. I don't think it needed that, like if it was remade in 2019 it would be full of corny, on the nose jokes for the audience, instead of the less funny natural jokes in there, and also I suppose more action. But what I see in alien is a perfectly believable, normal work crew who suddenly have to fight for their life. The character interactions, how they react to danger, it all feels natural to me. Not sure how to explain but it feels to me like when watching Alien i'm peering into the crew's day to day lives in space, whereas if I was watching Alien 2019, I'd be thinking *yeah i'm definitely watching a movie* - if that makes sense. I do like Aliens, i think it's its one of the most successful cases where a sequel goes more toward action, but it blended action well with horror, without being corny at all (the marines lingo and jokes were natural).

I’m not a fan of slowly paced movies…but it works for Alien. It works so well that on repeat viewings the slow, brooding pace only elevates the experience where other slow burn films only get more boring on subsequent viewings. @@alexandernagel8205 B Movie definition "a low-budget movie, especially (formerly) one made for use as a companion to the main attraction in a double feature." Ridley Scott doesn't make B movies. The definition has changed over the years but B movies are movies made on a shoe string budget with cheap effects and usually unknown actors but not always. Being a B movie has nothing to do with the plot like a monster hidding in the closet, or under the bed. You can have a crappy plot and spend $100,000,000 on making the movie like Capt Marvel. Marvel did. She even wears a rubber costume but it's not a B movie. Now you know.

Originally it was blocked world-wide but today I have found that block to be lifted-- KZfaq, of course, did not inform me of this change, and I had to keep checking. Currently it is still being disputed under a copyright monetization claim although I am confident Fox will have the good sense and reason to recognize the fair use within this video. EDIT: The claim has been reviewed and has resulted in my favour! Thank you, Fox! :) 2. Between writing, recording, grabbing images, and editing, some of the numbers and rankings associated with Alien's IMDb ratings have change and the visuals may be inconsistent with what is spoken. “Alien sucks, Aliens is 100 times better” When I was young I thought Aliens was the better film. As I’ve grown up and matured I have more respect for Alien and it’s tension and sci fi horror pioneership. Aliens now detracts the threat of the Alien and turns it into a glorified space bug to be shot and killed. This is partially why the success of Aliens is a double edged sword.
@MatthewDakoutros

My issues with Aliens is that 1) it loses almost all the depth of the symbolisms of the first movie 2) what the movie is trying to say is nothing special whereas what Alien is trying to say is still relevant today imo 3) Totally drops the horror element and it's now just a shoot em up action flick, and 4) it created an army of fans who just want to see space marines shoot alien hordes and nothing else. It is still one of the best sci-fi/action films but if I compare it with the original I dislike it

I think of Aliens as the natural evolution of Alien, except for the unforgivable sin of James Cameron in using a Queen/hive explanation for the Alien life cycle, taking advantage of Riddley Scott’s unforgivable sin of cutting the egg-morphing scene from the original film. The first film will always be the best, but I think the second one did a very good job of revisiting the planet without repeating everything that we already saw in the first film. And we can’t mention the impact of the first film without acknowledging Jerry Goldsmith’s incredible score. That music really added the right emotional depth for the film.

Many ships throughout history have had the ability to self destruct. Back in the days of sailing ships, if capture was eminent, the crew could ignite the powder magazine and blow the ship. It's always sad to me how movies are now with this. Characters are poorly written and the actors have to stick to it like shit to a blanket since such big money and corporate interests call the shots now. In the old days of movie making, actors had input and films were made dynamically with ideas bouncing around. Example: Predator and Robocop directors gave the actors freedom to choose their characters, including props such as berets, glasses and what they felt their character would be. It gives them a more real feel, since they are playing what they know and feel comfortable within themselves. They also had input such as Han Solo who was supposed to say "I love you" back at Leia in Empire, saying "I know" off his own back which George agreed to. Luke wanted to change so much of his character in the last Star Wars film but was told to basically shut up and do as he's told. The result is that films today are so often soulless, scientifically engineered, quick cut, focus group fodder with no grit and too much emphasis on visuals.

It’s a masterpiece in the same lofty category as Romero’s “Dawn of the Dead” and Craven’s “A Nightmare On Elm Street”. One of my favorite movies of all time.

The most mind-boggling facet of all those reviews is that someone who rates Alien as 1/10 has, nevertheless, watched it “20 times at home”, and clearly knows the film intimately. Such devoted masochism is amazing!

I think the reason why I think the movie is paced so slow is because the directors were introducing the viewers to a new genre of movies. They took time to showcase the mass of the ship, establish a certain grimness that stays throughout the movie, introduce the characters, show their routines. They successfully captured the loneliness outside the ship. The characters were in for an apparently boring mission. When the alien got into the ship and started wreaking havoc, their reaction, quite naturally, was to kill it. They were not introduced to the danger it might present to them. This is totally different from how a modern Hollywood movie about aliens would play out, because if not the characters, the audience have definitely caught up to a point that they think they know how to deal with the situation. The audience in the 70s must have just freaked out since they were as clueless as the crew.

The first Alien movie is a little slow-paced but that just makes it all the more terrifying. While Aliens is the best film in the franchise, in my opinion, I still absolutely love the original! The fact that this movie is gonna be 43 years old this April is astonishing because the movie is absolutely stunning in every way!

Holy crap. I *knew* St Just back in those days! Specifically I knew him from the.... Alien fandom! His screen name was actually taken from a deleted character from Alien Resurrection. I do recall he was kind of a contrarian, but not the only one in the fandom back then (I knew one guy who refused to watch Alien 3 because of all the swearing he heard was in it, I think over religiousreasons). My impression at the time was that St Just was about the same age group as myself (I was in high school). BTW, if St Just happens to see this, Newborn0 says hi!

@@randallpetroelje3913 It's all about the pace. The ships move very slowly by modern standards, and people have been brainwashed by STAR WARS to expect spaceships to go whizzing around like fighter planes. The effects in ALIEN create a sense of massive scale (the ore refinery in space), and a sense of weight in the landing and planet scenes. Ridley Scott and his effects team were more interested in the stately realism of 2001: A Space Odyssey than doing what Lucas did with STAR WARS.
