As someone who has been around long enough to remember working before smart phones, his tip about putting the phone away is probably the most important takeaway. Every time you context switch is a killer for learning or accomplishing anything.

That rubber duck segment 😂 +100% on not taking things too seriously. Some of the best seniors I've worked with are super lax and fun to hang out with but also know when to turn on the serious switch when the time calls for it. Not taking things too seriously is also a great sign that someone is super comfortable operating at their job level.

imo i think the most valuable videos on this channel are the ones that only a principal engineer can deliver insights on. while topics like breaking into tech or learning how to code are interesting, there are multiple other channels that can do this. aspects that i think would be more relevant are handling complex situations or growing career to senior/staff level which very few people can talk about or clearly

As a college student, I was doing the bare minimum and never coded outside of my assignments. I was coping with my phone, endlessly consuming video game queues and social shorts impulsively, and at that point in time, I thought I wasn't fit for being a programmer at all. On the contrary, I can vouch for removing ANY source of technological disruption for the sake of your focus. It's really a matter of how you use your attention in real time, and as of now, I've finally completed personal projects due to removing one stimulus, my phone.

Yeah!!! thank you so much, im a license teacher and now i dont have a job but i dont have yet a family and now learning code and many people say that i cant and sometimes i get affected of what other people saying something to me but i know i can and i can be a programmer and this is what i like not being a teacher and watching this video inspires me even sometimes i get bored and sometimes thingking if i can or i can't but i have guts that saying i can ang you can and now thats what im doing, thank you for this video ☺☺☺

I really needed this , I've been contemplating doing 4 years of my life for a degree because I've talked to a couple of people at amazon encouraging it but I really don't want to spend the next 4 years if I've already been going self taught for 2 years now, seeing you as an example getting to L7 with no degree is so relieving to hear for me you have no idea. I know self-taught isn't for everyone but I think for me I have better chances and continuing self-study for that amazon job. I'm currently in a CSR job at amazon and trying to convert to a programming at amazon. Wish me luck guys !

Creating a mentoring service would be very effective and helpful. Even working with small teams on a project would be an amazing experience. People would pay a lot for that type of experience.

Whilst you don't need a degree to get into Tech, it certainly does help a lot when you're thinking of going overseas or migrating to a new country. A lot of countries will run a points system (usually out of 100) for visa qualifications where a university degree might net you 25 points or more
