oh it's just brilliant seeing her in other ballet companies costumes as well. i've only ever been to the royal opera house or the london colluseum to see ballet (some other places too, but all in london) and seeing other costumes is really nice for a change!

I've seen the first variation done as an extra added attraction for the Lilac Fairy in the wedding act only ever by the Kirov (Lubov Kunakova, whom I quite liked) but it's interesting to see its genesis in this reconstruction. Wondering if the second variation (often done as a circle of little hops flat in a Russian 3rd arabesque, outside pirouette, double fouette and repeat) is a later creation.

The little game of hide and seek between Aurora and Desiree has always struck me as a waste of music that could be the best pdd ever, but whoever coached this really bowled me over with the poignant drama. There's an old video of Kolpakova doing a version where Aurora doesn't enter till the beginning of the adagio, and then she and Desire get all that lush music as a pdd. The one thing I hate in this is the Lilac Fairy's costume. Even if it's a reconstruction, what were they thinking????

The whole production was staged by Sergei Vikharev, he followed Vsevolozhsky and Marius Petipa's sketch of the Original version of the Sleeping Beauty 1890, before revised by Konstantin Sergeyev (1948) So that's why Konstantin revised Sleeping Beauty, because some parts are literally not even good or draw attention. Thus, in 1999 a lot hated the Original 1890 Production. Not just Sleeping Beauty, also La Bayadere (1900 Production) got hated.

We shall all be up on all the different versions of at least the main variations, only to be confused by the Grigorovitch version coming to cinema in less than 3 weeks. Anybody's guess how we shall feel about that one, and about the soloists.
