It was impossible to walk along the street and NOT hear a wireless playing this, someone whistling it or humming it. Two or three years ago someone who like me was 16 when this record was a hit said to me "I don't see why everyone thought the '60's were so SPECIAL," It was a wonderous time to live for so many reasons.

So here I am, in Canada, English only. I can’t understand anything that she’s singing, but I just can’t stop playing this. So innocent, and beautiful. And I can’t help but smile while I’m watching. Italian artist, she was about 16, 17 years old. She sung this in Spanish, also and was a great succes in Spain and lationo America. What a time to live then. 1964, I was 10 at that time and in Mexico that song "No Tengo edad" Played on all radio stations. Thanks Giggliola!

She's very recognizable, charming, and elegant in her singing, a stunning lady too, and they wrote beautiful songs for her. But her voice is not a thing, let's say, for the Italian average, which is definitely also about interpretation for every kind of voice, but we know her voice is not that strong to the point of being iconic, unlike many other Italian singers.

К сожалению, кроме образа "юной лилии", все остальное очень плохо... Маленький голос без профессиональной постановки. Отчаянно лажает, хотя возможно, это было связанно с отсутствием нормального мониторинга - кажется, она себя просто не слышит. Сразу видно любительство. Хотя, для Евровидения того времени это было естественно. Из-за низкого уровня, успешные профессионалы туда просто не ехали. У конкурса была устойчивая репутация малобюджетного "шоу талантов" 🙃 Для понимания массштаба: это год гастролей The Beatles в США, год начала "британского вторжения", год выхода второго альбома The Rolling Stones, и триумфа "Красотки" Роя Орбисона 😄

I am still moved to tears to see this interpretation again at Eurovision; it is the only singer who was recalled by the public who was not mistaken. She received thunderous applause and never before or after 1964 was this seen again; this song so well sung by a wonderful 16-year-old singer. This song is immortal! I was barely 11 years old in 66 but we were all happy in front of the TV, never song deserved more to win than this one. I no longer watch Eurovision, which has become nonsense.

В 74-м на Евровидении она заняла второе место, уступив АВВА всего 6 пунктов. И это при том, что Франция в голосовании не участвовала, у них был траур, умер президент. Если бы французы участвовали, она бы опять заняла первое место. Во Франции она была очень популярной.

Yes. Those old interviews really highlight how modest most musicians were! Yes there was Rolling Stones and perhaps the new breed of rockers who presented as being rebels etc., but definitely only the very few were like that those days. Most artists were polite like good house guests :). Keep in mind, even the Beatles were clean cut and dressed in suits and ties in their early days !

I was 22 when I saw this performance on the BBC's coverage of Eurovision. Being Welsh, I could not understand the language but fell in love with the song and the singer. It brought me out in goosebumps then and still does now 59 years later but now I also shed tears of joy when I hear it!. The song and the singer, Gigliola Cinquetti are of the very highest caliber. After all these years, I say a big THANK YOU!

It seems that by "merits" you mean how beautiful a singer is (at least you apparently feel that about women singers). And your suggestion that today singers are judged only on what part of the world they are from is bizarre and ludicrous. Sounds like you have hate for people in some areas of the world. Based on race? Religion? Wealth of their countries?

Beautiful memories. I was only 11 years old when I saw this contest on direct TV in 1964. And I remember well how this song went to my heart. And has always stayed in my memory, and it's a great moment to see and hear it again now. So authentic and honest from the heart. During a dinner in St.Tropez in 2009, I was introduced to an elder man. Since I'm a musician and composer, we started to talk about music. And he told me that one of his best friends (Mario Panzeri) composed the song "Non ho l'età". A great moment and reminder of this song.

С детства??? А где в СССР можно было услышать Джильолу? Я её впервые увидел на Санремо в 1985-м, когда сам фестиваль показывали по ТВ. Тогда это было впервые. И тогда она запомнилась, хотя и заняла третье место. Пипо Баудо долго с ней беседовал, не отпускал, гораздо дольше, чем с другими участниками. Совсем недавно узнал, что они в молодости играли в одном спектакле, когда им было лет по 20 с небольшим. И наверное он в неё был тайно влюблен. Был ролик, когда они опять встретились на конкурсе в начале 70-х, и он также долго держал её за руку и много говорил. Но она в конце 70-х вышла замуж за другого. Так что не повезло Пипо.

well... the politics were more hidden -- it was about fracturing social norms, but it had to be done in a way that would be acceptable by the people at the time. Looking at it now, this seems innocent -- but it WAS scandalous at the time.
