This man is so wise intelligent and knowledgeable in all that's going on against, the poor. And he is remarkably candid, Not afraid to speak his mind even with the position he has in society, if we only had a few more like him who would speak out (the way things really are without apology) and stand firm in all that speak. He's a man after my heart. Thank God for His VOICE!!

I have always loved Harry Belefonte, from his early songs, which opened up a new world. As an educated (by living on this earth) person. All respect to another human being. I am not black or brown, but I believe we are all connected. Any injustice to any is an injustice to all of us. All my respect to a wonderful human being.

HB, a brilliant mind with a deeply compassionate heart. So much more than vocalizing beliefs and strategies, he participated in overt actions and activities in support thereof. Imagine his deepest dissapointments noadays, 9 years after this video interview, as everything he speaks of has proceeded onward in the wrong direction. USA has become worse than ever in all respects of racial inequality, suppression of minorities, unfetterd violence, economic catastrophe for those who can least afford it, environmental destruction, corrupted judicial system and escalating desmantling of basic human rights. At least he set an example just as MLK did. It's unfortunate that there are no competent follow these leaders on the horizon.

Loved the interview for the fact that it features Belafonte, however I dream of the day where an interviewer would just dig deeper on what is given to them rather just go to the next unrelated question down on the prepared list. It was super interesting what Belafonte was getting at, at 07:40, and then the interviewer : "ok lets cut this, I gotta get to my next question,. Have you ever been to the white house?"

Both men came from two different backgrounds. Obama was raised by a white mother and after her death, his white grandparents. You work with the tools God has given you and do your best. Harry B. was correct in saying each has their own prism and so in my estimation must do one’s best to navigate that light. Each man made the most of what was given them.

Actually he would be disappointed by Obama. This was just after his election. Wonder what he thought later... there's a video circulating where Belafonte chides HRC and Obama in 2007 while onstage with them. It'd be great to find an interview with him from later...maybe democracy now has something...

Certainly one of the better interviews with a man I admire very much. The only point of "departure" is that Mr, Belafonte was (had to be) an optimist in outlook. The fact that so many years later, we are at another moment of "great troubles", pushes one towards (total) pessimism. Brinkmanship can only be practiced so many times, without ending in disaster. .

Proud! Unrelenting! Imagine if he were president? And the man was cool as the center seed of a cucumber 😎 As much as I admired former president Obama intellect, Mr. Bellefonte intellect as well as his truthfulness is out of this world. He would have been too realistic for some America's.

I think his view on capitalism is kinda limited. Capitalism depends more on a thriving, money spending middle class more than anything else and not so much on "exploiting" low wage workers. Eventually even in countries that have low wage workers their wages will increase as more businesses locate there and have to start to compete to attract and keep labor.
