Uau! Que história, Miguel! Merece um filme! É a prova concreta de que o vencedor nem sempre é o mais forte, mas o melhor estrategista, ou seja, o mais inteligente. Ao longo de sua História, Portugal deu inúmeras provas de suas habilidades estratégicas em todos os campos. Até mesmo a fuga da Família Real para o Brasil, durante a invasão de Napoleão, é vista hoje em dia como fundamental para a sobrevivência de Portugal. Embora não tenha sido bem vista pela população portuguesa, para o Brasil foi um grande avanço. Todas as melhorias que tivemos na época, devemos a essa decisão estratégica. Um exemplo: a Biblioteca Real foi salva porque foi trazida para o Brasil. Grandes obras de seu acervo não foram confiscadas pelos franceses porque estavam aqui. Mesmo sendo colônia, tivemos um tratamento diferenciado em razão da presença da Família Real. Enfim, muita história em comum une nossos países e torço sempre pelo crescimento desse pequeno país que tanto admiro, e cujo grande povo sabe preservar com amor e respeito a grandeza de sua História. Olá Claudia, boa segunda-feira! 😊 Sim, por várias vezes Portugal teve de enfrentar invasões e guerras em posição de inferioridade numérica e com poucas hipóteses de sucesso. Praticamente todas as batalhas importantes da nossa histórica foram assim. Mas quem está a defender a sobrevivência do seu país/reino está sempre mais motivado do quem invade só para conquistar mais território. Um provérbio que dizemos em Portugal: "a necessidade aguça o engenho". 😊 Sim, existe imensa história em comum entre Portugal e Brasil, muita bravura e decisões acertadas, que nem sempre são bem vistas no momento, mas mais a frio se percebe que fizeram sentido. Muito obrigado pelo comentário e uma excelente semana! 😀

A história de um país.. qualquer país, é um tesouro inimaginável!!! Histórias de batalhas,Reis,Rainhas , castelos....batalhas ganhas e perdidas...umas vezes conquistados e ocupados por romanos, Mouros , Espanhóis......sempre lutando ..grandes batalhas travadas....... até á reconquista. Depois as cruzadas, com os cruzados, a expansão marítima Estivemos na Índia,China, Japão,países árabes, África, América do Sul, depois de traçadas as fronteiras nasceu o Brásil.

Tudo muito impressionante! A liberdade é, de fato, o mais importante na vida de uma pessoa. Se os portugueses não tivessem sido tão corajosos e destemidos, nem o Brasil seria o que é hoje. Olá Maria, boa segunda-feira! 😀 Isso mesmo, a liberdade é tudo, e é por ela que os povos invadidos e oprimidos sempre lutam, mesmo que as hipóteses de sucesso sejam baixas. Mas das fraquezas se fazem forças, como dizemos aqui. Se Portugal tivesse perdido esta batalha, o enorme Brasil como o conhecemos seria impossível de existir. Seria um conjunto de países mais pequenos do tamanho da Bolívia ou Paraguai, possivelmente todos com lingua espanhola... Abraços e uma excelente semana! 😊

Excellent trip back in time to a period of one of at least 3 times where Portugal & its people-culture owes its existence , most Portuguese don't know their own fantastic , important , brave , rich & long... history, such a shame, but videos like this one helps a lot to correcting that sad truth ... Olá Nelson! 😀 Yes, that's true and a bit sad, most Portuguese don't know or care about the country's rich and long history. For example, it was disappointing to see how neglected some areas of the battlefield are, although to be fair it used to look much worse a few years ago. Eventually, all those houses and properties near the cross marking the key moment of the battle will be bought and demolished. Obrigado! 😊

@@nelsonsoares2975 It was only in 2002 that an institution was founded (Fundação Batalha de Aljubarrota) with the goal to value and dignify a part of the Portuguese cultural heritage associated to the main battlefields in Portugal. Especially the Aljubarrota battlefield, which was basically abandoned, it even had a junk yard nearby... Near the cross, close to where that car is parked, you can see where houses used to be until a few years ago, but they were bought by this institution and demolished. 🙂

@@POVTours Makes me happy to hear all that , Portugal has a great & unique past-history & should be totally respected & celebrated (if not by others at least by the proud Portuguese ) so future generations know the bravery of their ancestors who gave to Portugal the ultimate sacrifice & of course that was their lives to preserve their home, I cant wait to get back to Portugal again & start touring around that beautiful safe country visiting as many historical locations-sites , forts , castles , picturesque towns-villages & so on such a rich in all forma of the word country. When in Portugal I feel totally at home what a great feeling.. cheers amigo with a glass of Portugal wine doesn't matter from what region its all good mmm :) lol

Espero que esta verdadeira preciosidade seja descoberta e viralize na internet! Em relação aos vídeos postados na mesma época tem muito menos likes! Além do conteúdo histórico ímpar, a vila é um charme só! A quantidade de turistas mostra que, nesta época, a vila fica um agito só! A quantidade de campos e terrenos que há na Europa, no médio oriente e no norte da África que foram cenários de guerras e batalhas épicas é incalculável! Isto sem citar as batalhas das duas grandes guerras mundiais ou outras do século 20 para cá. Só as do século 19 para trás até perder-se no terreno do lendário! Mostra a dicotomia bem e mal de que somos feitos! 🌟

Obrigado Ludwig! 😀 Eu gostava que viralizasse mas... Eu já suspeitava que o vídeo teria muito menos visualizações que os outros. O algoritmo do KZfaq "penaliza" sempre os meus vídeos quando se desviam um pouco do que é o normal do canal: caminhadas em cidades. Como o tema deste vídeo é uma batalha, o algoritmo não recomenda e as pessoas nem sabem que existe. Se possível, uma das melhores formas de ajudar a promover o vídeo, é partilhar no Facebook, por exemplo. Ainda falta visitar alguns campos de batalha muito famosos em Portugal, especialmente um deles que está para breve e rivaliza com Aljubarrota em termos de importância. 😊

Thank you for this great video! I myself was throughly educated, as marked on 34:37 of this video. I myself am a Macedo and would never have known the importance of that name. I don't know if I am in any way related to Martim Gonçalves de Macedo. I do know that originally, my family started in a town called Macedo dos Cavaleiros. I thank you immensely once again. I'm glad you enjoyed it! 😀 Martim Gonçalves de Macedo was also born in Macedo de Cavaleiros, around the year 1330. His father was Gonçalo Annes de Macedo and his mother was Guiomar Martins de Avellar. He had five sons and a daughter, who continued the Macedo bloodline. You may, in fact, be a descendent of one of Portugal's greatest unsung heroes... 😊 I have yet to make a video in Macedo de Cavaleiros, but it's on the list!

Boa tarde hoje 6 d novembro que estou assistindo este vídeo pois no domingo aqui no Brasil foi muito difícil só conseguia tomar chá de capim limão para esperar o resultado das urnas o domingo mais longo do ano. Graças a Deus dormi como um anjo com a alma lavada. Mas este vídeo foi excelente e as barracas de artesanato e comidas me remetem as quermesse na minha cidade parecia que era aqui adorei! Só peço que da próxima vez mostre alguma das barracas para que possamos ver que tipo de produtos vendem aí nessas comemorações. São bem-vindos vídeos assim.

olá Miguel. tudo bem?? Nossa hoje seu vídeo foi uma viagem no tempo. Que história grandiosa. No início do vídeo estava legal porque vc nos mostra o clima da cidade comemorando um acontecimento fundamental pra história de Portugal. Mas a partir do momento em que vc foi para o local da Batalha foi incrível, sua narrativa e a música de fundo, com certeza teve momentos em que praticamente nos transportamos para aquela época. O lugar é muito bonito e a história que ele nos conta é simplesmente forte pelos acontecimentos e de imensa importância para Portugal. Eu não conhecia esse momento tão significativo. Agora creio perceber porquê na historia hai 4 dinastías, era porque ao terminar uma era porque não havia descendencia ao trono? E cada dinastía tinha um nome? Hola Maria! 😀 Sim, isso mesmo, quando não havia descendência direta ao trono, a dinastia terminava. Portugal teve 3 dinastias, e mais outra entre 1580 e 1640 quando o Rei de Espanha era também o Rei de Portugal. Dinastia de Borgonha, também chamada Afonsina: 1096 - 1383. Dinastia de Avis: 1385 - 1580/81. Dinastia de Habsburgo (ou Filipina): 1580 - 1640. Dinastia de Bragança: 1640 - 1910. Eu não gosto muito do modo de jogar da equipa portuguesa de futebol, é muito defensiva, mas a estratégia parece funcionar bem! 😄

Eu não fui boa em historia de Portugal, mas agora tenho curiosidade por saver a historia! That definitely was an important battle win! Everybody wanted to steal little Portugal. What's up with that? 😅 My grandmother would have been considered Spanish if this battle was lost. Hello Rita! 😀 In medieval times, all kingdoms and monarchs were always hungry for more and more territory, and with independent little Portugal occupying only about 1/6th of the Iberian Peninsula, it was seen was a natural target for larger predators. Portugal was too small and isolated to try to invade other kingdoms and expand the territory, so we just turned our attention to the great ocean and the unknown. Thus began the Portuguese age of the discoveries. 😊 That baker was tough as nails, she had to be, it wasn't easy to run a bakery in the 14th century. 😅

@@POVTours I don't believe the greed for more has ended nor will it ever with this human race. As the song by Tears for Fears says, "Everybody wants to rule the world". I'm very happy the Portuguese fought hard for their beautiful land. It's just so sad that the history of every country is filled with so many wars and turmoil. Ugh! Humans! I'll never understand the point of fighting for things that belong to no one. All the lives lost fighting over land and the land is the only thing that survived. Go figure! 🤷♀️ Thank you again for this excellent video! 👏👌❤️

Hello Marta! 😀 That's wasn't Nuno's gravesite (he did die at the age of 71 or 72), the story behind his actual gravesite is a bit tragic, and coincidently a story that will be mentioned in the next video (or the one after it), which is completely unrelated to Aljubarrota or the 14th century. All will make sense soon 😉

@@jocksilver7 Na verdade eu desde que criei o canal que tento não concordar ou discordar com tópicos mais subjetivos. 🙂Sempre vi o meu papel aqui como o de simples narrador silencioso de factos históricos irrefutáveis, sem emitir a minha opinião. Lembro-me de num dos meus primeiros vídeos ter dado a minha opinião sobre um determinado tema (não era política), e perante algumas reações percebi que não se pode agradar nem a gregos nem a troianos, e deixei de difundir opiniões. Especialmente se o tema é política ou história dos séculos 20/21. Por exemplo, quando publicar o vídeo de Santa Comba Dão (e certamente sabe quem terá um papel de destaque no mesmo), serei o mais neutro possível. Ainda assim, é possível que vá ser "atacado" por todos os lados, tanto os prós como os do contra. 🙂

The idea that the majority of the population was displeased with Castille controlling the crown is a false premise. The VAST majority of people didn't care who was running the show. In the past 500 years these people were controlled by the Visigoths, the moors, the Portucalense Kingdom created by a rogue prince who defied his mother and wanted lands to himself and, now, were under Castillian control. No one cared. Farmers were farming no matter who the Lord was and, by the 14th century, they were far from being braiwashed into believing the nosnensical romantized story of modern day identitary nations. Thet just wanted to be left alone. Those who were displeased were all those who would lose power. Namely, the Feudal structure. Nobles, Bourgeois and the Church. These are the one risking their positions and this is why they sent their troops (and people) to the battlefield. Charcaters like the Baker of Aljubarrota are a common thing all around Medieval Europe. A feminine presence figthing aga8inst the invador represents society fighting for it's suvival. But this happens because troops come into their lands. They are defending their homes and lives. They weren't defending a "country". The notion of belonging to "Portugal" wasn't present in medieval people. Farmers lived and die ploawing the ground of their villages, had no school had zero idea of what the country borders were and what was going on politically behind the scenes.

Great video! Its pretty amazing how the British have always had Portugal's back. Among other reasons, this perhaps explains the high rate of fluency in English throughout PT. The people are the warmest and friendliest, I think, to English speakers of all stripes. Greatest country in the universe, IMHO.

Hello, thank you for your comment! 😀 Yes, that would probably be one of the reasons for the high rate of fluency in English, that special connection to the UK. HIgh number of British tourists in Portugal, strong economic ties, etc. English is taugh from an early age at schools here, with others languages (such as French) that's not always the case.

The british have NEVER helped anyone but themselves. The only reason why they meddled in favor of Portugal vs Spain and France was because they were at war against those nations and they didn't want them to control Portugal's navy and network around the world. That's it. Nothing more. In fact, they declared war to Portugal because of Rhodesia and planned an invasion during WW2. So yeah. Context needs to be applied. Portugal has always been a slave to the interests of England. Even when it caused Brazil's nobility to revolt against the Portuguese crown because enforced trade deals were weighting heavily in the colony.
