@@matthewfirth9911 Yeah, not THAT bad. But the singing was still bad. Maybe he was concentrating too much on the movements and the things he had to do to fulfill the stage concept that he couldn't concentrate on singing anymore.

@@barbarabreunis7788 If you mean this year's song, then I can tell you that the number wasn't the reason, but rather the vocals. Many people couldn't sing well, but when he sang (I only knew the studio version beforehand) we had to laugh in front of the TV because we had expected something completely different.

It was a very undeserved placing. I can't help but wonder if it was because this was during the Euro crisis and there was a lot of anti German feelings across the continent at the time

I was also surprised. His performance wasn't the best but he really felt what he sang. You could see that he was devastated during and after the voting. I felt bad for him

@@osasunaitor I agree. I'm not ashamed to have three songs of him in my playlist with Rockstars, Dreamer & Sticks & Stones. Especially the final two I like to listen very much. Would have deserved a better result as an artist in ESC for sure.

that voting system only awarded 3 countries from each jury, so it was very easy to get 0 points unfortunately, that's why the same happened 1963, 1964, 1965

Austria was mentioned in this video. They received though overall 0 points (at home), that includes televoting as well. To this day the only hosting nation to my knowledge that ended up without points at all. They were just "not" listed last with 0 points as Germany sung after Austria in the competition order and also received 0 points. But IMO both songs deserved points. Both of them were actually good but voting in that year was kinda strange at times with typical neighor voting and stuff like that. That's why EBU later on changed voting rules slightly to reduce the likelihood of countries ending up with 0 points. I also do not think that if an act that received eighter points by the jury or by televotes should be listed here. As such, this is a bit misleading IMO

Well, you could say James Newman "Embers" is the worst performing song in the history of the ESC, bcecause in 2021, there were 38 other countries which could have voted for the UK on jury voting, and 38 other countries which could have voted for the UK on televoting (Rest of the World didn't happen in the Contest public vote then). Thus the UK effectively had 76 chances to get some level of points in the ESC 2021 Grand Final, and no country gave the UK any ponts on jury or televoting. If I remember rightly, the best the UK did that year was 11th in Poland's jury vote and 14th in Malta's televote, but that wasn't enough to get points.
