I have to give you so much credit. I stumbled onto your channel thanks to being a horror nerd and the KZfaq algorithm and I could not be happier. Your reviews and ranking video are such a fresh take in the sea of horror critiquing videos all over YT. I can't wait to see more from you in the future. Your attention to detail, breakdowns, and explanations are absolutely excellent!

It was really fun to see the order of your list! My friend kept asking me what was going on every time I had an audible reaction to one of the rankings (mostly just surprised gasps). My own would look a bit different, but that's the fun of horror movies (and movies in general), the subjectivity of it all. Really enjoyed hearing your explanations for why each one lands where it does.

This was great. Really loved your breakdown and the reason for your ranking. Halloween and Halloween II are one story for me and will always be my favorites. They tie for me as the perfect story. Dick Warlock is my favorite Michael Myers. Halloween III: Season of the witch is next for me, this one has become huge for me in recent years, and then Halloween 4, I was 14 when this film came out and it was the first one I saw in the theater, and my fifth favorite is Halloween Kills. My last two favorites are the same as yours. Also, I love the franchise and don’t hate any of the films. Best always my friend. Appreciate all your hard work

I first heard of you today on a podcast with Barry from Wolfman's Got Nards. So I thought I would check you out. I have to say I am very impressed. You look so at ease, you make your points so eloquently, without getting over excited or resorting to insulting people. As for your ranking, while I don't totally agree(who ever does), your reasons are well thought out and have plenty of solid arguments. I will be checking out your Halloween reviews over the next few days. Great work. My ranking is as follows- 13-Resurrection-terrible acting, Michael is barely intimidating at all, and the whole thing is just super dull 12-Curse-A lot of Myers fans like this one because he is brutal, but the plot is far fetched and just a total mess, the acting is weak except for Paul Rudd who is excellent as an obsessive, traumatised Tommy. The gore is totally OTT and the score is not right for a Halloween movie 11-Halloween 5-the mask is the worst, the characters are mostly unlikeable, the cops are a joke, Loomis is now just acting like Captain Ahab. The Myers house is so far off. The whole film feels like nobody cared or made any attempt to watch anything that came before 10-RZH2-I hated this at first, but in time I have softened to it slightly. The acting is OK, the concept is original, the 1st act is very good. Unfortunately Scout Taylor Compton is so toxic I was actually rooting for Michael to kill her. Never a good sign. The mask and costume, while not quite hitting the mark, had a realistic feel 9-Season of the Witch-Interesting idea, great ending, but pretty forgettable on the whole. This is one which could benefit from a remake 8-Halloween 2-love the look of the mask(even if it was more luck than design), Pleasance is at his best in this one(as he is in the Original and H4), and he needed to be as the rest of the cast is wooden. I hated Dick Warlocks portrayal of Michael and the kills were too contrived, like ticking off a list of how to come up with the most varied murders. A great ending though. "You don't know what death is" in to the music has to be the greatest segue of any movie ever 7-Halloween Kills-Take your brain out, sit back, and enjoy it for what it is and you can have fun with it. The flashback is done superbly, its nice to see characters actually taking the fight to Michael, But the dialogue was pretty poor, Big and Little John referring to each other as such was just dumb, the whole evil dies tonight/mob mentality was as subtle as a baseball bat around the head as far as social commentary goes, and the rise of Michael, after the beating he took erred dangerously in to the supernatural realm, as did the Laurie monologue that accompanied it, creating a big hole for Ends to have to climb out of 6-Halloween 2007-I loved this when it first came out. But I think that was because it did something a little different by looking in to the back story. Probably not so keen on that idea now, but at the time it was refreshing. Another reason I liked it was that 3 of the 4 preceding films were so disappointing that this felt like a masterpiece. I still like it, but its just been bettered by other movies in the series 5-H20-I loved Laurie in this. The best performance by JLC by far. It had great pacing, so much so that the time flew by. I actually thought Chris Durand did a good job-Michael had a bit more urgency about him, felt more like a sentient being, less like a zombie, and showed that you can have a human killer, who while relentless, isn't superhuman and indestructible. It felt like a grounded movie. The ending, though a bit rushed, was satisfying. Real shame about the masks(the KNB and CGI rank alongside H5), even the main one looked a bit "clownish" 4-Halloween 2018-Its hard to find much wrong with this at all, but by the same token apart from the look of Michael it doesn't really do anything particularly well either. Its interesting, well shot, well acted and satisfying without having a wow factor. There were some very good scenes, like the pre credit sequence, but it did also feel slow at times 3-Halloween 1978-I know its the original, and without that the others don't exist. I admit it is one of the few movies that genuinely scared me on first watch, which is a sign of a good horror movie. But the acting wasn't great, there was a lot of periods when nothing happened that hooked me, or moved the plot along. The concept is excellent, the ending chilling and the atmosphere, once night falls, is haunting. But its neither as thought provoking, or all round as fulfilling as the 2 to come 2-Halloween Ends-I liked this straight away. I'm so glad they got away from the usual formula,(how many times can you rehash the same thing?) it was both unexpected and welcome to have a Halloween film where the characters were more important than the kill scenes. Rohan Campbell was immense, a real highlight. He managed to be a sympathetic character right up until he went after Laurie. I found Laurie downright annoying. It's said she had therapy and it makes sense after living in fear for 40 years, that she would try and break the negative cycle and try to live her life. But she was just a bit too confident and carefree, it was an over correction that made her seem arrogant and cocky, even a little mean(though given the alternate ending maybe that was planned). I'm not a fan of the transference, which was definitely intended. The reenergizing of Michael when killing Doug was cringe, the final fight was a little too brief, and after what Michael survived in Kills seemed a little lame. While it didn't quite nail everything, and feels very different from Kills(which I feel is down to Kills being a little self indulgent),it did enough to really impress me. Though I acknowledge Michael Myers fans, as opposed to Halloween fans, mostly hate it 1-Halloween 4-From the atmospheric opening sequence to the shocking twist ending, this is near perfect. The cast is the strongest in the franchise. The feel of Halloween is there. The plot is well paced and thought out. There is just the right amount of humour. Like the original its mostly bloodless, letting the tension an suspense drive it. The characters have likeability, its actually sad when they die. Michael shows cunning and intelligence, not just brutality. Its such a shame the mask is poor as is the general look of Michael. The way he walks and the shoulder pads are off putting. Like in Ends, Michael is probably the weakest element of the film

Honestly, your list and my list is pretty spot on. The only difference and oh boy this is a big one…. I put H4 as number 1, Kills as 2 and the OG as 3. For me H4 was the very first Halloween I saw. My first ever time seeing Michael Myers was an AMC commercial and a snippet of his Jamie’s nightmare scene. I was a kid and had those similar type nightmares when I saw it so when I watched the movie I was hooked. I think I watched it at least 10 times leading up to Halloween with my mom and the following year I got a Myers mask and crept around like the shape on Halloween in between trick r treating in my old neighbourhood in Bedford. Kills was absolute carnage. I saw Kills and H40 3 times in theatres but Kills brought the monster out in the shape. I loved every minute of it. I did see the original in theatres in 2020 and by far the best theatre experience I’ve ever had. I always loved Halloween but being able to experience it in theatres really brought me back to what it was.

Since you mention 5 and Resurrection specifically, I assume you're basing that on their reputations around forums like this. If you haven't seen them, I'd say whether you would like them comes down to what you liked about the original in the first place. Resurrection had a decent premise, but ruined it through clumsy use of technology and the inclusion of Busta Rhymes, who is simply not an actor. As for 5, it is built on the traditional elements, with a heavy emphasis on stalking...but it introduces a few new elements that some don't like-although their presence is minimal-and it kills off a popular character early on...For me, the good infinitely outweighs the bad.
@thomasffrench3639
@thomasffrench3639 18 күн бұрын
Honestly Resurrection is probably my favorite sequel. Busta Rhymes is amazing, and yeah it does shit on the previous films ending, but so do literally all of these movies, and at least Resurrection owns it. Halloween 1978 has my favorite ending in horror, so maybe it’s like I’m saying “how does it feel to get your ending ruined” to Halloween 2 fans. And you can just ignore it like I do with all of the sequels. I don’t consider any of the sequels canon, so it’s easy for me to dissociate when watching Resurrection. I think I’m just a purist who only likes what John Carpenter likes and I have only seen 1, 2, 3, 4, H20, and Resurrection, where I only like the original and maybe Halloween 3. And I’m also sort of a Friday the 13th fan, and I do get annoyed when people use the original film to prop up the entire franchise, and treat the sequels like good movies and the Friday sequels are guilty pleasures. I only think Friday parts 4 and 6 are actually good, but people even dismiss those movies, and consider the Halloween sequels good sequels. So I guess it’s a bit personal

Also want to be clear. I respect your placement for the David Gordon Green Trilogy. Maybe during the summer or around October, I'll pop them in and give all three another shot. Maybe Kills and Ends will move higher up. I'll still say that Halloween Kills dose a WAY better job at executing the idea of someone going down the path of evil psychologically, than whatever Rob Zombie was trying to do.

I'm with you on Halloween Ends, great Movie and very interesting idea of handling the "Impact" of Evil inside the World its Set in. I would personally probably switch 2018 with Kills, but for most of the List i'm with you. Especially on that "I don't hate any of the Movies, i just dont like some as much as others". The Franchise overall is just amazing. And i love how Michael became somewhat "fueled" by the hate and fear of the people around him. He visibly grows stronger the more he feasts on those negative emotions. You can see it also very well in Ends, when he kills for the first time since the End of the last movie and he straightens up, and seems to sip in the death to rebuild himself. Amazing stuff. And of course - the original is pure perfection and one of my Must Watch Movies each year on Halloween. ^^

I'm still not sure of Ends. To me it's a better written and acted Friday 5...but I'm not sure if that's what I want as a Halloween movie. I look at 3 as Season of the Witch-not a Halloween movie. Basically, it's a feature length Twilight Zone episode. Here's how I reconcile the slow, robotic gait on Myers in 2 (1981). He's been shot and stabbed. He's injured. Of course he's going to be slow.

Hi, Evan. This is the first video I've watched of your channel. Looking forward to viewing more. I love the Halloween franchise as well and I enjoyed your ranking. Here's mine. 13. Halloween 5 (I also found this one to be boring. Hate Tina. Loathed what they did to Loomis. Jamies's wasted in this. It has no redeeming qualities for me) 12. Rob Zombie's Halloween (Nothing towards the guy, but I always have trouble sitting thought his movies. Disliked this film's writing) 11. Rob Zombie's Halloween II (Same deal. It's a tough watch though. Slightly higher because it tried something different. Not for me) 10. Halloween: The Curse of Micheal Myers (Interesting watch, some good atmosphere, but the writing kills it for me) 9. Halloween: Resurrection (I know that this should be lower, but I have a so bad it's good relationship with it) 8. Halloween Ends (Really wish I could place this movie higher, but it's moved down for me because I felt it needed a few more drafts for it to be great) 7. Halloween Kills (Admittingly both these movies are mid-tier for me but as a turn your brain off slasher, I enjoyed it. Just don't think it's that deep) 6. Halloween 4: The Return of Micheal Myers (Loved the writing, liked how Loomis was utilized, liked Jamie (in this movie) just wish it didn't look like it was for TV) 5. Halloween II (Nice companion piece to the first film. Love the atmosphere. Loomis is great, and I like Carpenter's score) 4. Halloween H20 (Best Laurie Strode film for me. Like how she takes charge) 3. Halloween 2018 (Best Micheal Myers film hands down since the first. The Halloween movie for our generation) 2. Halloween III: Season of the Witch (Fun all-round. Love this film, its characters, its story, its Carpenter like atmosphere, everything. Very underrated) 1. Halloween 1978 (What more could be said?)

what they should do now ... where did michael go at the end of halloween 1978? he went back into the house, hid and then killed BOTH loomis and laurie! then the movie moves forward 1 year to 1979 for michael's return assault on haddonfield. michael and laurie are NOT siblings. this time it is random! call it halloween 1979. we NEED more michael myers in the 70's! despite the fact that i HATE the sibling aspect of halloween II (1981) ... what else they could do is HALLOWEEN 4.5 THE ANIMATED MOVIE bring back JAMIE LLOYD, REV. JACKSON SAYER, DR. LOOMIS, DEPUTY GARY HUNT from halloween II, RACHEL, CHARLIE BOYLES mentioned in the 1978 film! so what if the actors are now older or since passed away they can still voice their characters or other voice atcors can imitate the characters's voices.. skip all of the thorn crap from 5 AND 666. halloween 4.5 takes place in 1989. i never wanted jamie to become the next shape. i knew all along they were never going to take that route. what they should have done is ship jamie off to smith's grove and then have michael break into smith's grove (give haddonefield a break for one halloween) in an effort to either attempt to kill her or traumatize her to the point where she actually begins to think she could possibly be evil to get her to join up with him....which she ultimately refuses to do and in the end she turns on michael and possibly/apparently kills him and saves rachel in the process. i always thought it would be a good idea to have michael break back into the facility. this way you could have a change in the setting, but still be true to the original concept. then i saw a max von sydow movie called the night visitor from about 1971. in it he breaks out of the asylum periodically to murder those who had him institutionalized, only to break back into the asylum after each new murder he commits. then i was like 'well, maybe it isn't an original idea, but it would still be cool to see michael break back into smith's grove.' also, in my 'story' there was to have been a patient at smith's grove who was an edlerly man. this man some times seems to be helping jamie escape michael and other times he seems to he assisting michael in his quest to find her. this old guy would turn out to be charlie bowles who was mentioned in the graveyard scene in 1978's halloween as having hacked his family up after supper. it is revealed that deputy gary hunt (hunter von leer) in halloween II was judith myers's lover on halloween 1963. they both have blonde hair. the deputy says he can remember halloween 1963 in halloween II. another halloween series alumni i would like to have in what i call 'halloween 4. 5' is rev. jackson p. sayer from 4: the return. the preacher actually did catch up with the evil he had been pursuing for years that he makes reference to in his conversation with loomis in 4. when the rev. caught up with his evil, he shot it six times and actually killed it. the preacher called it 'evil', but the authorties just saw the corpse of a dead man that the preacher had shot six times. when rev. jackson tried to tell everyone the person he had killed was evil incarnate everyone thought the preacher was insane and he was sent to smith's grove where he once again converses with loomis. while in smith's grove he / the preacher encounters michael and the preacher is convinced that michael REALLY is evil incarnate ... even well beyond what he had previously been pursuing and had ecountered/shot six times and killed. once i found a way to get all of the characters at smith's grove it just fell into place. loomis was no problem. michael of course was on the trail of jamie. jamie would actually be in smith's grove. charlie boyles and rev. jackson p. sayer would all ready be there. that just left gary hunt and rachel. deputy gary hunt could either be transporting paperwork about michael and/or jamie to the facility and rachel could be going to visit jamie there independently of each other OR gary hunt could be transporting rachel there for a visit with jamie and serving as her body guard. hunt while there encounters michael. he tells michael none of this was supposed to have happened. deputy hunt tells michael he/deputy hunt truly loved micahel's sister judith and they had plans to marry as soon as both were out of school. he tells michael that he / michael ruined his/gary's life by murdering judith and that is what set him/gary on his path of being involved in law enforcement; trying to prevent anyone else from ever suffering the kind of loss that he/gary did on halloween night 1963. this encounter of course ends badly for gary hunt. as for a halloween TV series it should be an anthology series which features a different oct. 31st story every episode (III: season of the witch). for all 11 halloween ends fans out there they could still do a haddonfield high tv series. michael myers needs to stay on the big screen. if this michael oriented TV series flops they (akkad and co.) + the fans have no out. if a myers tv series fails all other halloween/haddofield plans will be cancelled.

Love the channel, and agree with a lot of your insights and commentary on other films, but my dude I don't think we'll ever see eye to eye when it comes to Ends. Of course the music is incredible, and the cinematography is top-notch, but oh man do I really loathe the direction they took with that one. The character of Corey is about as compelling as an afternoon special, the romance between him and Allyson is almost Hallmarkian, and they way they neutered Michael is depressing to watch. Look, guys; If you're going to get cocky and 'subvert expectations,' don't do it with the last film - the canonical bookend - of a legendary franchise, with one of the most legendary antagonists in film history. Put your egos in your pockets and serve the story, not some screenplay that sounds like it was drummed up between bong hits. Yes, I am still salty. :)

What confuses me the most when it comes to ranking the Halloween franchise, has been the reluctance of the person who is ranking these films, to give an honest opinion about there favorite movie in the franchise, as there clear number one. Halloween 2 will always be my favorite and clear number one because it was the first one that I saw and enjoyed the most. Who cares what people may think. If your telling me that a film from 1978 is your clear number one and your second is Halloween kill from 2021 I would think your pulling my leg. Look we all give respect to the original, but I was born in the 70's ok. Star Wars from 1977 was a great movie but compared to the Mandalorian, come on man. I'm from that era, so I don't have to pretend. Halloween the original is the original and thats about it. Michael Meyers is driving a car in the movie, are you kidding me 😅. Its a classic and with that it gets into the top 3, but always go with your favorite at number one.

Probably not a great stance to assume that someone’s not being honest about their opinion just because you don’t agree…. The original Halloween is my favourite. That is true. Halloween Kills is my second favourite. That is true. My entire list is my actual, genuine opinion. You don’t have to take a “holier than thou” stance just because you don’t agree with the opinion. I have zero reason to lie in my ranking. If I was worried about ruffling feathers then Halloween Ends would be near the bottom right with RZ Halloween II. But it’s not, because that’s not how I feel. If you wanna hear WHY I feel the way I do about those movies, I have videos about them. It annoys me that you’re trying to say I’m not being honest here. If I wanted to pretend I wouldn’t be making these videos at all

@@RocklinGraves My apologies, it's just that the original is not what drew me into the franchise. The original has its moments but it also has those moments like every other Michael Meyers movie that can have you scratching your head. I just don't see the draw in the original compared to Rob's version especially if you didn't see the original first. I don't base my opinion on a movie because of a fictional timeline, because it's non-fiction, it's not really a timeline. Though 🤔, I respect your ranking, where I disagree with your take is that after Halloween, the original, every other Halloween movie can't compete with it, but opinions vary.

Halloween ends achieved something even resurrection couldn't achieve. It found a way to make Michael myers not scary while also making the second most unlikable character in the whole franchise the main killer. Shocked it's that high. Felt 4 hours and was boring to top it off.

Sometimes, you just have to admit: "they got it right the first time." HALLOWEEN (1978) , is a perfect stand alone. H II shows there is more going on. H 4 shows the curse going on after Laurie has died, and her daughter is being chased. 5 shows the new threat coming. 6 PC shows Michael has allies. 🏮
