The camera has been improved. The camera assembly/ unit and sensor hasn't been changed, but the camera has been improved. Every digital camera in existence uses software and some form of image processing, therefor the term 'camera' at least when referring to a digital one in a phone, webcam, tablet, laptop, dashcam, security camera etc includes the software, as it's an essential part. When new Google Pixels, iPhones and some other phones come out with the same exact physical camera sensor and assembly people don't usually say "The image processing" has been improved, they say "The camera" has improved. Image processing is a extremely important part to every modern digital camera in a phone, webcam, tablet, laptop, dashcam, security camera etc.

I think the differences are: 7 GPU cores versus 8 on pro, better battery, slightly brighter display, better speakers, better mics, TouchBar, and the fan. Whether or not that’s worth it for $300 is up to you 😊

Return your new one that you bought. Then, go back and buy the upgraded version. Remember the customer is always right. Apple is likely to work with you as they want their customer to be happy so as not to talk poorly about them in any way. You deserve to have the newer one. Just one thought though, you could keep you current one for a month or so (check the return policy), and then wait to see if the new M1 chip is as good as it sounds. New tools are often not yet foolproof. Kinda like the new software updates on my iPhone and IPad, I have learned to wait a couple of weeks before updating. I believe an Apple employee gave me that advice!! Anyway, find a way that makes YOU happy with what you got. Best of luck.
