Today we are ranking ALL 50 US states from the worst states to the best states. Everyone has their favorite state and a state they aren't too keen on.
We did this video about 3 years ago and thought it was time for an update.
So, let's Rank EVERY State in the United States from WORST to BEST!
In order to determine how States are ranked, we look at a few categories including their economy, cost of living, crime rates, healthcare, schools, and overall reputation.

As someone who was born and raised in WA, I’m surprised it’s #1, it’s nice here but it isn’t that far off from being ridiculously expensive like California. First off Washington is more than Seattle. And while Seattle has a host of big city blues, find me a West Coast or any American city that is at peace with itself. Originally I was gonna move to Virginia, but there's almost no opportunity there for someone like me and they're alot more expensive- doesn't mean I didn't like it there, I love Virginia, but Ohio just seems to be the best fit for me, especially in Sandusky where you have so many things close to you if you don't drive as well as giving more like an old town vibe rather than a city.

As an "over the road" trucker, covering every state but Alaska and Hawaii, I've seen some truly remarkable and amazing things. From the Atlantic to the Pacific, from the Great Lakes to the Mexican border and just about everything in between. I don't think a lot of Americans realize just how expansive, grand and beautiful this country really is. From the laid back, cool beaches to the majesty of the mountains. From the natural beauty of forests to the calmness of waterfalls, rivers, lakes and streams. Personally, in my opinion, driving Route 12 from Mt Saint Helen's to Yakima Washington, is the most beautiful place I've ever seen in America. I was blown away, it's stunning. Knocked Tennessee to #2 on my list of most beautiful states. Each state truly has something remarkable to bring to the table. Even my home state of New Jersey is beautiful. And if you disagree, you'll make great fertilizer, I'll bury your ass in the Pinelands. Furgeddaboutit.

Great video, love the work you put into it. Some constructive criticism though, you’re very inconsistent about saying a state ranks higher or lower when it ranks better or worse. For example, sometime you’ll say a state ranks higher on this list, meaning it’s closer to the number one slot, but you’ll refer to a different states as being higher on the list meaning it has a bigger number and is thus further from the number one spot. It takes some extra thought to figure out what you mean. But like I said, great video! Just wanted to see the next one be even better!

I've since moved to Arizona where I noticed it seems like there's a school on every corner--mostly charter schools in this very pro-school choice state. and guess how AZ ranks for education? I'm moving to the Gulf side of Florida in 2022. I'm a beach person and driving to the New Jersey shore just isn't cutting it anymore! I'm recently retired military so as long as there's a VA Hospital in the area.. I'm all good. People have recommended I look at Tampa, Pensacola and Ft. Myers! Enjoy that sun.. we're getting wet snow in Philly tonight...😁👍❄️

Blue states have traditionally been more supportive of public spending on social services. Red states are traditionally less likely to support spending on social services. When Trump mocked a disabled NY Times reporter in public, no Republican Governors or Republican member of congress spoke out against his behavior. That should be a good indicator for you.
@susanduffey9445

Yes, great idea. Federal Law, specifically the Americans with Disabilities Act, is something you should become very familiar with. It is designed to protect the civil rights & opportunities of all people regardless of physical, mental/emotional, or cognitive disability. The requirements of this law for this protected class is the removal of all barriers and/or use of certain accommodations to make equal access to public buildings, schools, government, transportation, highway rest stops, public transportation, employment practices whereby an applicant can disclose the presence of a disability that would require a reasonable accommodation - meaning they could successfully perform a job with reasonable changes in the way things are usually done, as long as it is economically feasible and would not present undue burdens on others. Familiarize yourself with this law as it is Federal and must be respected in all 50 states. The Fair Housing Act may also be helpful. But, a list of progressive states who have implemented all aspects of the ADA - demonstrate knowledge of it's purpose (equal access, inclusion) would be ranked higher than others who may still be dragging their feet or have faced the most ADA violation lawsuits - these are discrimination cases. Advocacy groups are important too as are employment & housing support, rules & regulations. In other words, which states offer the most services, accessibility, inclusion, knowledge & expertise in becoming ADA compliant.
@susanduffey9445

Agree with the general statement of Blue States being more aware & compliant with, what was considered, progressive legislation. The ADA was signed into law by President Clinton.

I’m dual citizen in Canada have been to all 50 (often working at airports) I also have (had) grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins in Wa and Ut so they would be happy. Your ranking is spot on in my opinion. My personal feeling is based on experiences so I might not come to same conclusions exactly for example first time I was in Fl it was Miami and it was muggy hot, unhappy people, police sirens continually at night, I couldn’t wait to get out of Florida. Next time I was in the gulf side and found Tampa absolutely great despite fact one night we had large cyclone pass through with a foot and half of rain and 100 mph winds overnight but by time storm passed it was beautiful and I hated to leave. My friends in HNL would not agree as they know “O Hawai’i ka maika’i” but they won’t comment since they think there are enough people who know that already. Lol

Opportunity here is limited to corporate power and they will keep you there! Yes we have some of the highest incomes around but Nebraska knows this so they just add more tax! We pay taxes on taxes here it's ridiculous. If your looking for somewhere else to move like I am Don't move here! Keep those videos coming @briggs

Numbers alone should bring Massachusetts into the top 5. Plus we have some of the best colleges in the world. Only downfall is that infrastructure is incredibly bad, like you mentioned. That and the traffic during rush hour, along with driving in general. If we invested into more public transportation, that could be less of a problem! 🤓

As someone from Georgia and was born in the Sweet Onion city, and now lives in Atlanta I can say that it is really crowded. And I would also recommend if you are moving to Georgia, Statesboro, Savannah, Brunswick, Dublin and Douglas are some great places to move to. Also as South Carolina’s neighbor the only two things I don’t like about their state is their part of the interstate. Especially I-95. And I don’t like their football team.

I feel like this was generally a good video but several times throughout you mentioned a state being cold but not the average winter temperature. Also, while it seems like more people prefer hotter temperature to colder ones, there is a portion of the population who would prefer the cold. So I feel like if and when you update this video you should give a more well rounded view of temperatures in the hottest and coldest states or not mention it at all.

Illinois really needs to split off the Chicago area into its own state. That way both areas have proper regional governments that actually addresses their needs. Or if not a new state make Chicago a antonomis region of the state where its almost independent for most things. Personally i really think the country as whole needs new state boundries to better govern the people in ways that makes sense but that would take way to much political capital.

Lived in PA for the majority of my childhood and all over VA for the last 17 years. PA is beautiful, but it’s backwards in a lot of ways (particularly in the rust belt). I absolutely love VA outside of NoVa (where I’m currently located) - it’s a suburban hellscape full of government elitists. The only things about NoVa that are truly enjoyable (IMO) are its above average food scene and its close proximity top-tier research universities. The rest of the state has some of the most diverse landscapes in the country, and it’s not a huge state, so you could easily make a trip through the mountains, farmland, and battlefields, along rivers and swamps, down the coast, under the bay (via the Hampton Roads Tunnel Bridge System ❤), and to big cities within just 3-4 hours!
