Yes they are. However, the newest roomettes that just came out do not have the toilet in the room. You’ll have to ask if the car has the toilet in the room when you make your reservation. Problem is, these newer cars are few and far between.

Good questions. I have been riding the rails for over 4 decades, and I have been in the sleeper cars for over 5 years now. This is fine for two adults. My son and I are both a little less than 6 feet tall, and we fit comfortably. When my wife and I go together, she and I can sit in one seat and watch a movie on my laptop as it is on the other seat. The beds can easily fit a 6' 6" tall person. Regarding the toilet in the room....This was very odd for me. I used it once and felt strange doing so, as I would be sleeping in this same room. Needless to say I did not use the toilet after that. Amtrak has decent bathrooms and shower(s) for sleeper guests, and overall they are clean. Sometimes guests may not leave the bathroom clean, but they do get cleaned and disinfected throughout the trip. Food-wise, I really like the food in the dining car. The cost is expensive if you are not in a sleeper, but all the meals are included if you are. You would and should just need to take care of a tip for each meal. $5-$10 tip per meal, for 2 people is plenty. I hope this answers your questions. Feel free to ask me more.

It looked new, but the food was the same overall. Nice dining area and same "great" service.

Double row of windows?

Yes. This is the only train (roomette) I traveled in that had the double row of windows.

What about the airlines? Busses too? Though it may not shine bright at times (at all), some of us cannot or do not fly for different reasons. We need to be able to travel around and enjoy the country but do not want to drive because of cost and wear and tear on the car. I could go on, but ... Some of us need the Amtrak to get from point A to point B.

@@MajorAir ... I love trains ,, the problem is, we don't have "good" trains ,, Amtrak is a joke .. take a look at the new train in Florida .. that is what we need throughout the USA

@@ptsmith4660 I hear you. It frustrates me that we have trains that are identical to the same trains I rode in 45 years ago as a kid. And I mean, EXACT. Same seats, carpeting, bathrooms, etc. But the government wants to cut tons of funding, and therefore routes across the country. I don't know how we can improve the trains. I am bummed.

@@MajorAir Amtrak wasn't created until the railroad serving the northeast corridor went bankrupt, mainly for the same reasons why the other railroads killed their passenger trains when the USPS chose to fly the mail long distances and truck the mail short distances during the 1960s. Gone with the wind are the days when several to a dozen mail cars were on the consist of most passenger trains. Canada and Australia have reduced their transcontinental services to twice weekly, and even during this pandemic Amtrak has somehow reduced service to only thrice weekly instead of daily. America is NOT a tiny nation one can drive across in a single day. Intercity regional train service is best suited for short distances of less than 3 hours at whatever the speed of the train. Beyond 3 hours even high speed trains lose the bulk of the business to the airlines, and this applies worldwide. America is NOT going to invest trillions for national high speed rail to get less than one percent of the transit business. There lies the problem for better rail services in America nationwide...
