Hello friends!
Dice blanks! What are they? Why do makers use them? What can you do with them? Today I’ll be going over these questions and showing a few examples of what I primarily use blanks for. I hope you enjoyed, hope you learned something, and I’ll see you in the next one!
You can find my socials at linktr.ee/dreamydice or @dreamy_dice pretty much everywhere.

Thanks for sharing. Ages ago I wondered if it was possible to have a clear shape inside a dice. Now I know it may be very possible with methods like this.

Thank you SO much for this tutorial because my original Dice Masters maker stopped selling on Etsy and I really wanted to commission some blanks from them 😅

Very cool! Thank you for this video. I would love to play around with dice creation but that may have to be something I look at down the road. I've seen dice with different types of paint used for the numbers (like glow in the dark acrylic for example) and some of them required a white base coat under the final paint due to the translucency. The white base/primer coat is very visible in the clear resin shell around these dice and honestly has a very large impact on the final aesthetic imo. Have you ever played around any with ways of minimizing or even utilizing visible paint from the inked numbers through the shell when viewed from the side? In one of your videos you had mentioned getting masters with deeper numbers to assist with mold creation. Do you think it would be possible to layer paint in a way that appeared differently depending on which side you were viewing it from, or is the depth of the numbers typically too shallow overall to experiment with that type of effect? For example in case I explained poorly: if you had a white opaque or even frosted blank cast inside of a clear shell, then inked all of the numbers in various bright colours, then reinked all of the numbers with a second layer of black paint on top, do you think the first layer of colour would be easily visible when viewed from the sides but when looked at head on only showed the second black layer? So if you had a d6 and were looking straight at the 6 face it would appear black, but the side walls of the surrounding numbers are visible within the shell as the bright first paint layer colours. This would definitely be something I'd have to try for myself if I ever get a chance to experiment with dice making, but I just thought I would mention it in the off chance you have already explored paths like that.

Where do you get your master dice/and inserts from?

Wonderful!! Do you have any videos on how you then recast the blanks to get the shell and number? I can't wrap my head around how people center the blanks in a mould so it's even 🤔🤷🏻‍♂️😂

The blanks are sized so that the grooves of the numbers basically hold them in place and cause there's no wiggle room they sit pretty perfectly central.

Thank you SO much for your videos, they're super helpful!! May I ask a clarifying question? When you say blanks don't need to be sanded, do you mean it's cool to make molds from the blank masters without sanding them? If so, that'd be awesome, because I ordered some blank masters recently and was dreading having to sand them. 😂

Yes, kind of! I would still sand off any support marks, but for my blanks I only sanded them until the supports were gone and they were all even. So some faces were still fresh off the printer and untouched (since I leave mine matte), I just made sure everything was still aligned decently well.

You mention putting reflective flakes on the inside of your mold and them not being disturbed… do you mean you add the flakes to the outer mold and the blanks help keep them in place/stop them from sinking to the bottom?
@dreamy_dice
@dreamy_dice 2 жыл бұрын
Specifically what I’m referring to here is pre-resin pour grabbing flakes with tweezers and brushing them along the inside of my blank molds. Then, pouring resin or a design. This way you get the flakes all along all sides of the die without the risk of any being sanded or polished off during finishing. The same concept applies with something like glitter, you could brush glitter along the inside of all of the blank molds and you wouldn’t run the risk of sanding off any of the glitter like you would if you did so in dice molds.

Cool! But how about creating them? I'm not sure how much smaller they should be than regular masters to ensure a good fit, look good and be balanced.
