Completely agree. Holm is extraordinary.

Well, she was nominated for an Oscar in this role as supporting actress. But she had already won like 1-2 years earlier for Gentlemen's Agreement and back then, multiple wins for best supporting awards were not as common (however deserved).

Thelma Ritter was one of those no nonsense actresses of her time. She may not have been the main star but she was such a strong support. A great presence.

Celeste Holm always shined because she was a great actress! Sad that she had always to play the second fiddle instead of a leading role!

She competes with Bette in each scene and that’s saying a lot.

NO! I luvs me sum Bette Davis & agree that her Margo Channing peformance was excellent. BUT, Gloria Swanson owned Norma Desmond & that final descent down those stairs, her mind gone, had me weeping. Born in 1958, I knew nuthin bout Gloria til I watched SB. I was like 'WHO IS SHE? DAMN full of herself Anne Baxter, who later admitted that insisting she be nominated in the Best Actress category was a BIG mistake. Barbara Stanwyck attended a private showing of Sunset Blvd & after the film ended she knelt down & kissed the hem of Gloria's gown. RESPECT! Nevah won an Oscar Gloria SHOULD HAVE WON! Too bad that she had beefed with Hollywood soooo male whilst a silent film star. IMO she EARNED that Oscar playin Norma. But iffin Bette had won her 3rd Oscar, that woulda been cool too.

Actually,, there were 2 robberies that year Gloria Swanson and Bette Davis…Although,,Judy Holliday is also great but these are iconic performances Bette and Gloria gave us.. That have stood the test of time .. Actually,, Anne Baxter was also nominated for best actress that year as well for this movie..

I also always felt that Anne Baxter was a supporting role...

Both great at their craft but they were following their lines and direction. Most actors could and would have been able to do the same.

I love this movie and her dress is spectacular

Interesting tidbit about that dress, which was designed by the famous Edith Head. The shoulders of the dress were found to be too big for Bette moments before she was to film the party scene, much to Edith’s horror. Altering the dress would mean a delay in shooting. Ever the professional, Bette just said she’d let it drape down on her shoulders and said she thought it looked better like that anyway. Edith was thrilled and she added a few strategic stitches to keep the neckline in place. Off Bette went to film the scene and a classic moment in cinematic history was born! An epic look for an incredible actress!

You can’t just be good at your craft. if you aren’t liked as a person you’re not going to get the Oscar vote. James Cameron is proof of that. Again, do your research.
