I waited so long before finally saying goodbye to my Reefkeeper controller. If only Hydros offered a starter/base unit that included PH monitoring, I would’ve definitely gone the Hydros route, as I really love their interface, build aesthetics and design. I was holding out for so long and waiting to see what they offered out of the gate….and afterwards… I ended up buying a used Apex and several modules. I’m now too deep into owning Neptune gear to switch to Hydros anytime soon unfortunately. Man I really wish PH was offered on Hydros starter/base module originally!! Cheers

I hummed and hah over which controllers to get…in the end I’m very happy with my hydros controller.

If I could pick one company in the industry it would be CoralVue / Hydros because the products they bring to market are all about benefiting the hobbyist. I am one of those reefers who think Neptune has done the hobby a disservice because of reliability, walled gardens and price. So many reefers use controllers only as monitors because of that and I will be interested to see how Neptune changes now its in with BRS, IM, Ecotech etc. So Hydros now has to go and undo all of those built in opinions and that is going to take a while and a lot of really great products. An example of value is with the WaveEngine you can just buy that with standalone pumps (with no controllers, powerbricks etc) and I think that cost of entry is very close to getting 2 standalone pumps for example. Then if a pump fails you ONLY need to buy another standalone pump. What I wanted was a standalone pH monitor but now I am thinking to support Hydros, get the 3 and also take advantage of the leak detector. What I have been thinking about lately is controlling dosing (including Kalkwasser) based on BOTH pH and Alkalinity and that would mean finding an Alk additive with a higher pH than Kalk (still a thought bubbling away). IMO the biggest advance in reefing in the last 5 years (maybe more) is Alkalinity monitoring and the price ABSOLUTELY needs to come down for that and it needs to be reliable - Seneye were working on the Coral but I don't know what happened to that. The Seneye Coral with a Hydros 3 setup that comes in at $500 is probably something that EVERY new reefer should be given (if they want to do hard corals). Imagine the success if 50% of new reefers got that? I shouldn't be giving away these ideas - the price of coral will skyrocket.
