Excellent video! This is such a universal principle that I believe every martial art would benefit by understanding the concept of kuzushi. Take striking (atemi waza) for example. you throw a punch, or a kick, you are off balance for a split second until you regain base . The more power you put behind the strike, the more momentum you have and that momentum can be redirected.

Do you find the principles of Kuzushi are applicable in wrestling? Also, do you think there are many areas in freestyle wrestling where judo-specific techniques can be implemented, or many areas in Judo where wrestling-specific techniques could potentially be used? Sorry for the long question, loving all the content you’re putting out.
@VTdarkangel
@VTdarkangel 3 жыл бұрын
Kuzushi principles work for nearly all take downs. How they will apply for wrestling will be a little different because of the rules and clothing. However, the idea of using your hands, posture, and movement together to create a momentary loss of balance for your opponent still apply. As far as Judo-esque techniques for wrestling, there are some that will work, but their legality and level of modification are highly dependent on the rules you're working under.
@THIS---GUY
@THIS---GUY 3 жыл бұрын
My wrestling coach taught us judo without ever telling us it was judo. The uchi mata from overhook/underhook was my favourite set up. (not sure judo names rn) but a lot of techniques are transferable like arm throws, inside outside leg trips, leg sweeps, and many others. I just substitute the grips on the Gi with body control with bidy/wrist control or even from tie up's. The fundamentals of the techniques stay relatively the same.

@@THIS---GUY is absolutely right. My two favourite takedowns in wrestling situations are an underhook uchi mata to an ankle pick (the uchi mata is the kuzushi here) and a double leg attempt from an over under situation into an arm throw (here the dbl leg is the kuzushi). I mean, the whole kumi-kata(1) -> kuzushi (2)-> tsukuri (3)-> kake(4) sequence applies to any grappling sport in my opinion 1. you gotta get to the grips you want 2. you then get them off their stable configuration 3. you move into your throwing/tripping/executing position 4. you execute the technique

@@TaiKaoSowa The trick is you have to attack immediately with any non-standard grip. As long as you are disrupting the person's balance and trying to throw, you can keep that grip. (Excluding grips below the belt, of course) It really falls right in with the no stalling rules of Judo anyway, if you are using a grip to stall, they penalize you. If you're not using the grip to stall, but using it to create action and attacks, it's fine.
