I'm just tossing this into the void because I felt like rewatching this video and now I'm reflecting on why. I was raised in purity culture, and about 2 months ago I had my first experience with another person, at 24, we went from nothing to completely and I genuinely hated myself afterwards. I practically sobbed the entire way back to my house. I started my deconstruction process years ago, I've been sex-positive for friends and loved ones and working on embracing my own sexuality, but I didn't realize how much of a loss it would feel like for this simple thing to be gone, and how broken I would feel. My friends are from a post-religion part of my life and dont understand, my therapist is secular, and I've felt so alone in mourning the loss of something I didn't think would feel so... heavy. Paul and Morgan would say its because I recognized how wrong my actions were. I don't know why I'm throwing this out there, but genuinely, watching this has given me perspective and reminded me of how I would approach sexuality for a friend, for a younger me, for someone else trying to let go of purity culture. Capitalism aside, I loved Scholastic book fairs as a kid. They were always so exciting and fun. My family couldn’t afford a lot of books, but it was great to flip through them and see what was out there. (My parents weren’t that strict with what we read but I had classmates for whom it was an eye opening experience). They’re a major school fundraiser too because the school gets a percentage of all the sales (although in the last couple of years scholastic has decreased the percentage because of the aforementioned capitalism :/ ).

Morgan talking about her experience with that therapist is sending off STRONG signals of someone who expects to be "cured" from one session, which is completely the wrong mindset to have. As someone who has struggled with depression and anxiety for most of my life, the turning point for me was when I faced myself and admitted that I will probably be dealing with mental health issues for most of my life, and that it was going to be very hard work to try and get to a better place. That was six or seven years ago, and I'm happy to report that I am very much in a better place today, but it was and REMAINS labor intensive, and yes, it involves coping skills to maintain. If you refuse to accept that, you simply stand a much lower chance of ever getting better.

I don’t think Morgan realizes that probably a big reason she was so anxious, sick, and depressed while having premarital sex was because she felt guilty about it. Not that sex outside of marriage is inherently wrong, but that she has absorbed the IDEA that it is so deeply that her “disobedience” caused turmoil in her and resulted in debilitating anxiety. People who were not raised with those beliefs about sex are not made miserable by sex.

I'm a virgin Christian with a laundry list of mental health issues. I mean obviously we knew what Morgan was saying was bs, but being a Christian and following God's word to the best of your abilities doesn't mean you're gonna get out of having Severe Anxiety, Severe Depression, ADHD, OCD, PTSD, Body Dysmorphia, all things I have had and still deal with. I was born and raised Christian. I have amazing parents who have raised me to the absolute best of their ability, and their best was wonderful! I have had a good life and I've still dealt with these things. It's so much more complicated than what Morgan wants to make it out to be. I find a lot of peace and happiness believing in my God, and there are a lot of things that have happened in my life that make be really think He's real. But these people make Him look bad, and it really upsets me.

I think people forget that pregnancy CHANGES your body, permanently. There are many real stories of women’s abdominal muscles tearing because of c-section, becoming paralyzed in the spine, having internal or external bleeding, needing emergency hysterectomies because of risk, hormones are out of whack during and after pregnancy, miscarriages, having to abort the pregnancy, etc. Pregnancy has killed women for a reason because of how dangerous it is. Post partum bodies don’t “bounce back” because their body is physically and hormonal changed FOREVER. Even if you work out, eat a healthy diet, it’s realistic that your skin will be stretched out because your skin literally expands during pregnancy. You’ll probably have complications after such as post partum depression or psychosis, abdominal tearing, vaginal pain and tearing, cervical problems, etc. I will never understand people who body shame people who are pregnant. It’s unwarranted and gross to shame someone who’s pregnant regardless of whether they “bounce back” or not

This may be looking into it a bit too deep, but... I'm a medical student with vast personal experience with psychiatric medicine and I just have to say, Morgan sounds constantly sedated. Her words are slowed/dragged out, her train of thought is barely going 1mph and her emotional stunting is, well, stunted. It all screams sedative drugs/alcohol. But again, I could be looking to into it, she could just be very very dense.

I had a friend once like Morgan. Mental health unchecked and pushing it down with a façade of God. My friend used to be super progressive and genuinely was the reason I even learned about queer culture and helped me realize the feelings I had about myself were part of queerness. Then a switch flipped and she spiraled, in a span of a few months she became god-fearing and told everyone Satan had a hold of her in the past because she dated women (even going as far to say the women she dated were Satan assaulting her and testing her faith WTFFFFFFFF). I tried to stay by her side to help her through this and not be pushy bc at the time I was naïve. The final straw was my cousin needing brain surgery at 19 and was told she would need yearly scans to make sure the affliction she had wouldn't return. When I was telling this to my friend, my friend had the audacity to say "She will never need to worry about that or do that, because God has put angels in her blood that will prevent all illness from returning." I never spoke to her again. Also a year later my cousin needed a second brain surgery so... yeah, go fuck your "god", and I say that as someone who was raised Catholic. I feel bad for these types of folks but at the same time it is very hard to keep supportive people around them because they actively push anyone who would care away. As a grown adult at almost 30 now, I've occasionally seen my former friend on social media and they actively fight for the stripping of my rights, of their own rights, it's horrible. I reached out to the last person they dated, because it all ended so fast. Lo, my former friend apparently showed up to the ex boyfriend's house and waved a knife around the kitchen talking about how God wants them to be together and that they can't break up because that wouldn't follow the plans the bible has laid out for them. So... yeah. Sometimes being around these types of folks is just... actively harmful in so so so many ways. I hope she gets the help she needs, I'm probably projecting my own experience onto this, because I fear for the people closest to all of them.
