Thank you so much for making this video. I've tried watching 3 or 4 other videos and they would give their opinions about level 4, but they wouldn't actually show the materials or go into detail about what a lesson would look like. Honestly, your video should be ranked at the top of the search page. You've definitely given me A LOT more helpful information so that I can make a good decision for my family. Thanks again!

Hi, I bought the Alpha Phonics since I was following Jady Alvarez video and she mentioned about it & I liked since it was only $20 & I have not started using it yet. I taught my 3 year all her sounds and she knows to read her cvc words short vowel ones only. she sees a word and starts decoding but she cant say the word directly, she reads it c-a-t phoentically. I have used white board and post its to teach her........ now I am not sure should I invest $150 or keep going as it it is and teach her. any suggestions?

Hi , thanks very informative. Are there any comprehension questions in all about reading?

Yes, there are comprehension questions in some of the lessons that you can ask to your child.

Does each level take a full school year to complete? I think I saw that level 3 only had like 46 lessons…
@KidsLearningforLife
@KidsLearningforLife Жыл бұрын
Level three has 54 lessons. Lessons do not necessarily equal one day of learning. In the teaching pages it does say that it is okay to take multiple days to complete each lesson. For learning to read, it is better for kids to do five 20 min lessons 5 times a week versus two 50 min lessons a week. For my boys, we typically completed about 2-3 lessons per week as I broke up the lessons.

Can I just get the teachers manual only and teach my student? Do you believe that the student/activity book is a must have?
@KidsLearningforLife
@KidsLearningforLife 8 ай бұрын
Teaching reading requires lots of practice for the student. If you get just the teacher’s guide then you won’t have any practice material for your student. All About Reading does have a lot of parts so I understand wanting to minimize the amount you have to buy. AAR has the teacher’s guide, student workbook, letter tiles, word cards, and the readers. I use all components with my kids, but I have seen some parents use just the teacher’s guide and the readers. It really just depends on your child. If you want just 1 book, you could look into “How to Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons”. I haven’t used it personally, but I know others that like it.

Are the levels equal to grade level generally?
@KidsLearningforLife
@KidsLearningforLife Жыл бұрын
The All About Reading levels are not intended to be grade levels. It is really based on mastering each set of skills before moving onto more lessons, so each child will reach different levels at different time. My boys started with level 1 in Kinder, but I remember each child moving through the program at different speeds. I highly recommend using the free All About Reading placement tests (www.allaboutlearningpress.com/reading-placement) to see where your child should start. I hope that helps!

Are level 3 and 4 not published in color?

On their website now, the only book options are color editions. Some of the materials I show in this video are older editions and are not in color.

AAR is THE best reading curriculum!!!

We actually do the opposite of you. we always do the activities, but not the practice or warm up sheets. My daughter hates the practice sheets. If she seems to do well with the cards and activities, then we do nothing from the practice sheets. If she needs more practice, I pull words or phrases from the practice sheets to do. If she sees the actual sheet though, she completely shuts off. The great thing is you can make it your own!

So interesting… all three of you have daughters that don’t like the practice sheets. I don’t have much experience in that area, haha! 👦 👦 👦 I doubt it’s strictly a girl/boy thing, but I appreciate you all sharing your experiences to help others with their decision on using AAR or not.

@@KidsLearningforLife yes I’m honestly super sad lol I truly love AAR and she’s reading like crazy. So I’m combing some things for 2nd grade in a few months. Im thinking of doing just the Boosters + readers from TGTB not the work book and spelling connections & handwriting and see how that goes.

Is this confusing these looks hard to organize and figure out
@KidsLearningforLife
@KidsLearningforLife Ай бұрын
I would say it takes a bit to understand how all the pieces relate to each other, but once you understand the rhythm, it is really easy to implement. As you go, you will learn what parts work for you and what parts you might want to cut out. For example, I don’t usually do the “game” activities with my kids, we just read the practice sheets and call it good. I have heard from other families that their kids love the “game” activities, so they skip the practice sheets. There is a lot to the program, but you can weed out things that don’t work for your kiddo.
