It sounds like a part-time job just keeping up with what different casinos are offering, since it changes all the time. If the idea is to accumulate as many freebies as possible in the same casino chain to reach certain tiers, then if they change the offerings to their favor, and temporarily switch to a better casino, then you aren't building your points in the first casino anymore. And lemme guess.....you lose your credits/points/cash/comps/whatever if you don't use them within a certain period of time, kinda like that stupid Bonus Stars program Starbucks has where you lose your points after 6 months. I've never gotten frequent flyer miles, but I hear they expire too. Not everyone is going to make it back to Vegas in a certain period of time, so unless the comps never expire, they're worthless to the occasional Vegas visitor who wants to build up their total for nicer stuff instead of redeeming them for a coffee mug.

The comps are usually free play that can be converted in to cash. If you get $250 free play 2x a week from one place, $100 free play 4x a week at another place, and maybe $25 free play daily somewhere else. It can add up to a six figure salary. You are correct though it really works best if you are a local. You can do a similar thing at Indian casinos although the comps are a bit less.

First of all, in order to make a living at the game you would need a rather large bankroll because you would probably need to play $1 and higher machines. And just because you have a slight edge, that doesn't meant that you are guaranteed to win. You could have some bad luck and get wiped out, unless your bankroll was sufficient to last you through those periods. Let's say you found a VP game, where you had a 0.50% advantage, after combining the cash back and players club benefits. If you played 600 hands an hour on a $1 machine that means that you are putting $3,000 an hour through that machine. Since your advantage is 0.50% that means you would be making $15 an hour. The main problem is that it would be difficult to find a casino that was so generous, unless it was making a mistake of some sort with its marketing programs to its players.

In other words, you'd be better off moving to Seattle and being a barista for Starbucks if you have no better skills, cause their city mandates $15/hr mimimum wage, plus you get medical and other benefits, even for part-timers. I'll have a mocha crappucino please. No strategy card required!

You can't predict it but if you play thousands of hands (which video poker players do every hour) you begin to see the frequency of things. Royal Flush for instance one in every 65,000. At 2000 hands an hour you can expect to see one statistically every 4 days if you play full time.

9/6 Jacks or better is a better game to play than 10s or better. Just because you get paid on 10s or better rather than Jacks or better doesn't make it a better paying game. You need to analyze the entire pay table to determine the total payback percentage for the machine.

With better i mean lower volatility, since the lower cards are paid better. That suits me better. I found a game Tens-or-better with deal or no deal option, is there a way to calculate that? (on the deal , the dealer gets 1 random card openly, and i must pick a higher one out of 4 covered cards. Like 1-Cards Blackjack :D)

You should care about the overall payback percentage as your first priority. If you are talking about the double-up feature in a video poker game, then there is no casino advantage on that particular feature. However, this is assuming that you are playing in a regulated gaming jurisdiction in the U.S., other than a New York racino, or a Class II Indian casino. Where are you playing?

That would only benefit the professional player I think. Casinos aren't really in that business.

If there are successful video poker players at one casino, it is usually because there is a mistake on the part of the casino as they are being too generous with their comps and freeplay. There are very few casinos where something like this can be done continuously because the mistake is usually caught and changes are made to reduce the casino's exposure. The vast majority of video poker players would never even know such a situation existed because they don't know how to take advantage of it. Also, you need a rather large bankroll because even if you have an advantage there is no guarantee that you will win. You will sometimes have very bad luck and lose - that's why it's called gambling. However, if you have a big enough bankroll, you can outlast the losing streaks, and in the long run, you should be a winner.

Thank you! I've been wondering about these things for a lifetime. So gambling is not something you can do for a living in the long run, unless as i see it, if you get lucky and win a big amount, you use that money to start businesses and invest legitimately in the "real world".. to make money that way. I've especially been keen to find out about Blackjack, and have researched calculations and counting - seems like there are no legitimate way to really make a guaranteed profit in the long run. As you say, that is why it is called gambling. Casinos are in business and they cannot operate with the percentages against them. Thanks again for the videos, very informative and professional.

There are people who can make a living off of the casinos, but it is a difficult thing to do and it may require a large bankroll to withstand the losing streak which will occur. People who do this are called "advantage gamblers" and you can Google that term to learn more about it.
