1969 documentary about Barlinnie Prison, Glasgow - produced by Jordanhill College Film Unit.
*I will remove this footage if it is in violation of copyright laws - I do not profit from this footage, rather I feel a documentary of this quality and rarity should be readily accessible to interested members of the public, not least because HMP Barlinnie is due to be demolished in the coming years.

Great archive footage.. amazing to hear the chef saying there had been no.punishment diet at that point for 14 years , i believe before that it was bread and water as a form of punishment

Great video. What I will say is that Barlinnie has went backwards since it was made.

That’s a good comment and I think a great many prisons throughout the UK went backwards in many ways. There is no sign of any overcrowding in this documentary and they even show men with single cells, I believe that 10-15 years later those same cells would house 2 or even 3 men and work would be a privilege rather than a normal thing. Of course these kinds of documentaries show the prison in the best possible light and the prisoners interviewed would have been carefully selected by the staff.

An extradition request was turned down by an Irish Court recently due to the state of Barlinnie on ECHR grounds. That is the fault of the Prison. not the Irish court.

It was the 2 McGRASSigle brothers.Two dummy gangstas & they has the polis watching me for 20-24 hours a day, @user-yg9pz9st9r.And i always wondered why the white haired one was NEVER in jail.The score is pool-cue joe-0 wee john 51aw!aye! the other is known as the grave digger coz he murdered a wee harmless 21 years old boy with a mental age of 14.Enough said!!!

The whole prison service has gone haywire drugs have seen to that. Barlinnie is a nuthoose, Glenochil Shotts, are just jungles no rehabilitation in prison what so ever.

Most of it still looks the exact 💯 same .in the year 2023 .food isn't much different either tbh 🤣.the prison has been condemned for years and it's still going strong to thos day .
