What i love about Emet is that instead of just possessing anybody for his mission and then abandon the body, Emet actually stayed, made friends, married, had kids then died of old age. He actually tried to live with the Imperfect shards like us and that why i feel his reasoning held more power than other Acsians. It also kinda ironic when the words of a Schemer are more trustworthy than the words of the Emissary.

Elidibus is tighter lipped but nothing he has said so far has been false, as far as the main character is concerned. We really don't know much about what he's been involved in directly, although I am sure he is capable of observing from Emet-Selch's actions, what errors he made, including getting too attached to weakened mortal shards. Hopefully we'll get a lot more of him soon. As for Lahabrea, he never really divulged as much as Emet-Selch, though he did make it clear they wanted Hydaelyn out because she acted as a parasite on the planet. All of it ties into what Elidibus gets to during their big meeting. He was a workaholic and deadset on his task. The rest don't have the firsthand experience of those three.

He pretty much realises he is wrong in the end though, since the peoples of Eorzea have conquered barriers not even the Ancients managed, like managing to travel back in time to prevent a calamity, but by that point he is too lonely and far in to admit he is wrong, either he will carry through the plans and see his lost friends and family again or he will die trying, which is what happens.

Bruh, Emet-Selch's character development throughout Shadowbringers is massive! He goes from being this villainous madman hellbent on causing death and chaos for no purpose other than enjoyment, to a misunderstood tragic hero with a heavy purpose and a goal that no one seems to understand. You go from hating him, to general disliking him, to being neutral around him and finding him an asset. You begin to want to know and understand him, his way of thinking, and his backstory. Only near the end do you find out that he was heart-broken and homesick for a world and people that used to be but no longer is. He longs for that grand Eden where anything was possible. But now, he can only now interact with ghosts of those he once knew and a broken shell of a world and it's scattered fragments. You find out that Emet-Selch actually does care a great deal. like a father-figure, he knows the potential of your soul and what you could become and ever tries to push you towards greatness. Even when given the chance to truly harm you, your friends, and the worlds; he doesn't. He decides in the end to change his ways and leave the heavy burden of being the star's steward up to his children. I'd absolutely add Emet-Selch (Hades) to the list of characters who I want brought back and really want to see more of.

One of the Ascian's biggest flaws is that, being immortal creatures, they've never learned how to grieve and let go of lost loved ones. That's why they're so desperate to bring back what they had before the final days. I feel like Emet-Selch is one of the only unsundered who got pretty close to that. He created that city-sized model of Amaurot, and filled it with his memories. He was so, SO close to understanding grief and letting go of the past. But in the end he still couldn't get it. Not until the WoL struck him down, and forced him to accept the time of the Ascians was over. Such a great antagonist, and so well performed by the voice actor :-) Thanks for taking the time to assemble all of these!

Exactly. Thancred canonically, and my wol headcanonically, go through this whole ass character Arc about accepting the final death of Minfilia. The parallels are pretty blatant, I reckon. I want to ask something. I need an answer. I suspect Hades was right all along. How? He said when he was explaining what Hydalyn did to his world that SEVEN times rejoined hero of the source may be an answer for him. A solution. We failed him, at least that what he was thinking, but I want to ask. WASN'T OUR MERGING WITH ARDBERT OUR SEVENTH REJOINING?! Then we had no problem with handling light in us. He never was anywhere near when Ardbert was around. He could not see that actually there is a wandering soul, our shard. G'raha Tia rejoined when he arrived in the First. Same for Scihons, BUT Ardbert was roaming free! Emet Selch called Lahabrea an idiot so he will not know what he saw in us. Elidibus does not remember much (if he died aswell) Emet Selch is THE ONLY ONE who can explain to us why he did mean, what he saw in us. If Pandemonium poster has Lahabrea's face on it I hope they will bring back Emet Selch as well. God I would be soo happy to see him. So. After such long introduction. The question is: How many times we were rejoined before the one with Ardbert? Was it 6 times and Emet Selch was right and we are to fulfill his hopes? Or we needed to be rejoined 8th times to handle the light?

9:37 I love how pissed off and ANGRY Varis is here. Yes, he's a monster, but he still deeply cares about his people and their lives, and to hear his own grandfather faked his own death JUST to enjoy the turmoil and chaos that unfolded afterwards.. If he could snap Emet-Selch's neck at that moment, he absolutely would have. Everything he fought for, every step he took to strive for the betterment of his people, cast aside and trampled on because his Ascian ancestor wanted chaos and bloodshed for kicks and giggles. It's a shame Varis was killed off already. There really were intricacies and depths to his character that could have still been delved into.. but alas, Zenos had to cut his character short.

Agreed. Though I'm still holding out some hope that Varis might come back in some form. We did get Memoria Misera at least but that just makes me want a Regula or Gaius Ex. @kizhe240

@@BlazeIgnitus you can't always have deep characters. When every character has deep two sided lore, more room for errors are made and it gets harder and harder to justify events. This is a game after all. I agree deep and engaging characters make people like zenos seem hollow, but morall ambiguous racters don't forward the plot nearly as fast or as intense as a straight up evil characters. This is a issue with literature in general, and you can see this is many other games movies or stories. The more ambiguous a antagonist is, the harder it is to justify the protagonists actions and eventually you run into a wall of " well, why am I doing this"? You could add on another morally ambiguous character, to push the plot forward but they fail to push it as far as what the writer wants since they then have to dive into that characters reasoning in depth. Or you can just use a actual evil character abd boom you have instant justification and a way to push the plot forward without a ton of filler. I'm not saying zenos is perfect, but peoples dislike of him because hes evil isn't a good reason, there's other reasons sure, but the core design and purpose of zenos is to push the plot forward and is used in every other form of literature. Anti heros or understandable villains are a breathe of fresh air, but these villains takes years to develop and a ton of lore dedicated to them. ,more then the average character really.

@@BlazeIgnitus yall say that now. people said that about emet in stormblood, but look how he turned out. meanwhile varis was your average "evil for the sake of his country" villain. typical tyrant. he would have died to the WoL if he lived anyway because the dude just wanted to plant a boot on eorzeas face. that was his grand motivation for invading over and over again. there was nothing unique or interesting about varis, and im glad they quickly got him out of the way to make space for villains like emet. as for zenos, he's basically a blank slate and they likely did that on purpose. we know next to nothing about him, outside of his obsession with strength. perfect set-up for character expansion.

Indeed. Every time I watch that scene, it makes my heart clench, because you can see that Emet-Selch was genuinely happy to see you in that moment. No schemes, just you, his old friend. You can see all the spots where he really wishes you remembered and can see just how genuine his hope is that you will be able to contain the light. It's sad that it took just one more rejoining for you to be able to do so and by that point it was too late, the fight was inevitable. I truly do wonder what he would have done had we managed to contain it sooner, especially as he expressed a desire to reach his goals without further bloodshed. Would he have changed course or would he have tried to use us in a different way? Or perhaps he intended to die and pass it all on to us regardless? So many questions.

Literally suffering from his own sanity and refusing to give it up because of his unending resolve to do what he knows to be the right thing. @@Zuhri69 I think there's something you're missing here. For all their power, there were things that the Ascians were unwilling to do. Even Lahabrea wasn't about to go around destroying things for destruction's sake. Fandaniel doesn't have those constraints, so while he may be less individually powerful than either Emet-Selch or Elidibus, that doesn't mean he's not more dangerous. They were trying to fix something and he's trying to break it, the former is more difficult than the latter.

The voice acting is credited for that probably, since if his delivery wasn't so amazing I probably wouldn't have enjoyed him as much.

There's actually much more meaning to this. It may sound as a small joke, but he is working towards a single goal of rejoining the worlds, to bring back his brothers and sisters sacrificed to Zodiark. In a way, he's saying "I'm constantly thinking about all our lost breathens and to bring them back." This is how he is able to push himself on for centuries. That, and with the constant slouch he has on his posture.......

This is just my headcannon but I feel this is a line he "stole" from Azem. We know this Emet copies a lot of mannerisms of the people he loved and for some reason, this line feels so much like something Azem would say 😂 always plotting something fits the bill for them.
